Did you know that the death rate in the former Soviet Union actually EXCEEDS the birth rate? I guess nobody wants to have kids in such horrible conditions. By 2020, the USSR will have a lower population than America did in 1900!
I've only read excerpts of the book, but Pat Buchanan makes a lot of these points in his book, "The Death of the West," where he shows that traditional Western civilization is gradually being replaced by other nations with much higher birth rates. For instance, in some parts of eastern Russia, the Chinese outnumber the Russians by 10 to 1. It is a similar situation to American history where white settlers moved in and pushed the Indians and Spanish out through sheer weight of numbers. In the US, the Roman Catholic Mexicans (who don't believe in birth control, and do believe in large families) are taking over the southwest. In fact, some Mexicans talk about the "reconquista" of their lands in the US. White people are already a minority in California.
I'm not racist, I just don't think that there is any reason for anyone to have large families anymore (including the white Mormons). With economic pressures the way they are, and the rapidly shrinking ability of the Earth to sustain such a large population, it is irresponsible for any couple to have more than two children.
Related to that, in our Ed Psych text we just learned that, as a teacher, the best expectation to have of US families is none at all. There really is no standard family structure any more here, and that means that kids grow up in very fragmented households. That tells me that a lot of people who are having kids are really too immature to create a stable life and family for themselves and their children, and that they should not be having kids at all. In fact, they've told us to refer to "your family" not "your parents."
