As a student of many martial arts systems I wanted to comment on your post. You did really well, the most important part is that you kept your cool, easier said than done.

Self defence classes are great, but even then many have limitations. The most imporant part is that you train your awareness, which we are all are born with, and some learn faster than others.

One of my best kung fu teachers used to talk about the mindset we adopt that makes us a victim or a survivor. He had said to act neither timid or brave, and his words rang true since had been in many real life fights and had lived to tell his stories. He said the key is neutrality...you don't appear to be ready to fight but also your not giving away any of your space to others. From this neautral point, anything that the situations calls for, be it fight or flight can come.

A lot of people study martial arts and never learn this deep awareness, or practice where their school has put many limitations on the training. I'm not advocating full contact death matches, but I've seen many people who can do flying kicks or break boards and bricks, but would get annilated in a real fight.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can get ANYONE, even the greatest martial artist in the world if their numbers up.

Just look, listen and feel with your higher senses, there's a lot out there to experience when you do. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I am a gun owner and will soon be getting my permit to carry a concealed weapon. I believe it is a very responsible thing to do, not only for my protection but for the protection for everyone around me. If more Law abiding citizens were to carry weapons, criminals would be less inclined to act.

My suggestion would be for such people to not travel alone at night, or in secluded areas, as this will make them more vunerable to attack. Also they should not drive in busy streets alone, especialy not with their car doors unlocked.

Ok well I c that most of u r tending towards guns..... but what about the small trouble that you cant really get any guns around here nemore???? Im pretty sure that only a few guns are aloud now and u need a hard to get permit.... we got 2 guns... but I dont think u can get Pistols in Oz at all nemore... all we got is 2 Rifles... and ur not exactly gonna go carrying them around town [img]graemlins/laugh2.gif[/img] .... but then again Im just pointing this out... its not really a problem 4 me cause im 14 and live in a 25000ppl town.... not eactly a thriving metropolis [img]tongue.gif[/img] [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I suggest carrying a small air horn like they use in sports matches, my mum carries one with her everywhere. If it's legal where you are I'd also recommend taking mace/pepper spray or a tazer with you if you go walking by yourself, Guns are not only expensive but if the criminal gets it off you then it just adds to your problem. Martial arts are good if you have years to invest training otherwise self defense classes will do, bith of these options are also great ways to stay in shape. If all else fails, kick 'em in the nuts and run like hell! hehe

<font color="lightgreen"> To get a gun liscence, you have to have a VERY good reason for needing a Gun, such as living out on a farm and having to kill injured animals. Self Defense does NOT count.
Also, you have to be over a certain age (18 i THINK), and you have to be 16 to carry a knife or blade.
And then, you can be prosecuted and turned from victim to assailent for possesing a potentially dangerous object, even a STICK!!

Wow that sucks. They just make commiting crimes even eaiser. Why do politicians always side with criminals? Mabye because most are just as bad.
