Hmm... personally, I like the 3rd person perspective more than I like first person (at least the kind seen in FPS-type games, for instance, Deus Ex or Unreal Tournament... don't know if, say, Wizardry 8's 1st person is different). It's so fancy and fancy... hmm, let me see... BG2 has a storyline I like, a LOT of options and sidequests, mass slaughter ( ;) ), hmm... *shrug*

My favorite character type would have to be the good old Mage or Wild Mage or Fighter (Berserker Kit)... PPPPPpppppOOOOOoooooWWWWWwwwwwEEEEEeeeeeRRRRRrrrrr ..........

BG2:Shadows of Amn is the best game ever, IMHO. However, I don't think Throne of Baal is in the same class as BG2:SoA. They both use the same motor, and they are from the same company(ies). The plot in ToB isn't so bad so what is it that makes me feel SoA is sublime, whilst ToB was just ok? I think it must be because it is essentially very non-linear, particularly the first part of the game before you head off to get Imoen. This non-linearity allows the player to express a wide range of real emotions in their choices: a choice is not simply black or white. Right for one player is wrong for another.

However not everyone wants to express a fantasy role when they play a computer game, so Danius, if the above doesn't convince your mates just tell them that in a few years time when or if they reach your level of emotional maturity they too will appreciate the finer points of BG2.

Incidentally, if any of them like Half-Life ask them why: it must be because Half-Life has quite a lot of dialogue and (linear) plot development compared to most FPS. And if they like that they ought to like BG2 even more...

Planescape: Torment was many times better than BG2 story/realm-wise, but Shadows of Amn is a good runner-up, with a high replayability value and unforgettable npc's, as well as many interesting mods and add-ons made by fans...

I think that BGII has the best replay value of any game ive played. the choices of alignment, race, and class, as well as gender lend many combinations to explore. not only can you accent your class by choosing a complimentary race (elven archer) but you can create challenging characters to play with. Each time through the game you can pretend that you are a totally different entity, and act accordingly because the game reults will differ with the type of game you play. you cant find that in games like final fantasy(which is, imho the best non-pc game series, mainly because of its plot). I also agree with the non-linearity early in the game, as opposed to say, final fantasy games, where linearity is broken only toward the end of that game (when you get the airships or whatever). The reputation and charisma scores are also what bring BGII to the forefront. Everything is taken into consideration in this game. I feel that this is the game that every RPGer should own.
