Let's see, a good mage, or a lousy thief and a sucky mage...

What are you people blathering on about.

Edwin is just funnier outright. Anyone who has him for any length of time will know. I could go on for ages about how he threatens to firball you all in your sleep, how he by accident turns himself into a woman or how takes the piss out of all the other charecters but what would the point be. His voice set is excellent, his arrogance is pathetic and makes him so funny.

Edwin dosnt come over as a huge rebel, just a humerous screwball, he messes up a lot and he is hardly a youth model. At least not anybody I know.

The 2 spells for level is for every level so thats actually 18 more spells than nalia can ever get.

Lets face it though nalia is so whining and annoying, wouldnt have her in a party if i could avoid it. Really though she is impossible, her voice pack is so irritating.

Galadria you have never used him, how can you talk about him then. Imoen compared to thieving abilities of jan is really quite useless, also her state when you pick her up again is not what I would call usefull, typicaly she is lower in level and knows sod all spells.

And real evil in a player charecter, I think not, if Edwin was a real monster no one would take him. It wouldnt be funny and Edwin definatly is.

Mage-power-wise, Edwin is, I believe, MUCH better than Nalia. 2 more spells is VERY nice, I'd say, especial the high level ones... and actually, I have been down to the last spell a good number of times, Galadria. Let me see... while being able to use bows is sort of useful, (when I played through the game) I can't remember ay particular point where I really wished I had another boman/woman in my party... besides, if he has to, Edwein can always use the Boomerang Dagger +3 (the one that does 2d4+3 damage, and fire damage) or just use Staff of the Magi to attack/invis/attack/etc. *shrug* Just my opinion, but I'd have to say Edwin is much better mage-wise... hmm... something a bit strange, though... I had Minsc and Edwin in my party for pretty close to the whole game, and never had either of them try to kill the other... same with Keldorn and Viconia... *shrug*

Well... if you are care so little about Roleplaying when playing a roleplaying game, then why don't you all move to Diablo II? Better yet... Diablo I. This game is full of hacker who would be happy to give you some l337 h4|<3rz stuff.

Encard 03-23-2002 09:29 PM

Eh. *sigh* Hacked stuff is annoying... besides, I never said anything about who you chould get in your party RP-wise. I said that Edwin is a better mage, as in, more powerful... if you're lawful good or whatever and want to RP, go ahead and take Nalia or Imoen... I'm just saying Edwin is more powerful. It really isn't necessary to imply that I or anyone else only plays to get fancy death items or whatever (maybe some of us do, I don't know, but really...). Besides... my main character, when I played, was always either neutral or evil. Especially for me or anyone else with a char like that, there's no reason to not get Edwin (not that I can think of, anyway), and I believe a reason for even a good character to get Edwin has been given. I'm afraid I see nothing unjustified in this getting him, unless you're really trying to RP a paladin or something... and remember, there's more than one way to look at everything. Oh, and just a note for Ares... on some cases you might have lower xp, but that depends on how you think about it. After all, promises of rewards (or the simple sadistic pleasure of killing) could be enough to convince an evil character to do the quests, so you wouldn't really miss out on as much. *shrug* Just my opinion.

IMHO Nalia is just a crappy imoen clone. After the 5th time she spouted"for the needy" from her filthy sewer and gave some dirty beggar some of MY gold I just HAD to kill her!!! Edwin on the other hand is my kind of mage. He hits on Viconia, plots the death of the other party members, and he couldnt care less about all of athkatlas bumms. AND before someone starts whineing about "roleplaying" I had Edwin in my party for BG1 , so it is just good roleplaying for me to have him in for the long haul this time too. Same with Viconia too

Luvian 03-23-2002 10:00 PM

It is good roleplaying to keep him in BGII because you had him in BG1? Not at all.

Encard 03-23-2002 10:05 PM

Err... I can't see why that's bad roleplaying... after all, if he had him in his party in BG, and he was useful, why wouldn't he keep him? Especially if he was evil aligned (as I'd guess from what he said), then I personally think that it actually wasn't all that strange or bad RP-wise. *shrug* Would you explain why you think it is?

Luvian 03-23-2002 10:39 PM

IF he is evil or Neutral, then yes it is, but if it he is good, then it is not.

The fact that he traveled with him in the past is not a good reason enough in itself to travel with him again in BG II, since he is always causing trouble in the group and do not care about helping people. Sure, if the group really need a mage and he is the only one available, then yes, they could ally for some time, but he should be droped at the first opportunity of getting a good aligned mage. No truly good character would willingly keep traveling with such a character if he had a choice otherwise.

A good pc would also not travel with him in BG1, since he make it obvious he want to assasinate someone.
