Roleplayer. Although I will not hesitate to equip my char
with the best stuff I can find. I enjoy the challenge. The
only time I got really stuck was in the De'Arnise stronghold. I admit
I used the cloudkill tactic after about 10 failures but I never lowered the difficulty level to breeze by any opponent. I tried cheating with
shadowkeeper and it gets boring fast.

A little bit of both guess... of course I use the better items I get but I don't use items like ring of regeneration, cloak of mirroring and boots of speed they make the game to easy (anylonger) http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif... I usually play a paladin... and I equip him with the avenger a great armor a cloack of protection and I'm satisfied

The problem with BG2 is that u are all really powergamers. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
Having played BG1 i found that the high starting levels and the abundence of amazing weapons and Magics available right at the start was making my game too easy. I am RPG all the way and much prefer a characterful romp to a simple slaying. I don't mind having my party thrown about because the whole point is to anticipate trouble before it starts,"HeHeHe that small guys toast!"http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif"Wait not a metor storm!!!!!"(This is what happenes to powergamers!!! i have known!!)

Definition of a Kensai (Sword Specialist) Powergamer:uses Crom Faeyr.
Definition of a Kensai (Sword Specialist) Roleplayer:uses SWORDS.

I am definitely a role-player as my character has a dex of 14 which just misses giving him an ac bonus ( now 15 due to tome from bg1 - not considered cheating unless you use more than 1-like 3 tomes of wis on one character). I also don't allow stealing in my lawful good led party.

Hmm... This question begs the point a little methinks. How can you "roleplay" truly if there are no other human players?
You might try to do difficult deeds like soloing with an assassin that only uses daggers, but that isn't actually roleplaying so much as it is an exercise in tactics.

When NWN comes out, then we shall see truer roleplaying - people actually pretending to be someone else. When I play BG2, it's not really possible to suspend the disbelief. It's just a game, albeit a good one, that focuses on small squad warfare.

Does anyone know if NWN is going to be another damn Pay-Per-Play online game?

Thats a good point. BG is quite limited in terms of character development and story. You dont get to sit around a camp fire telling stories etc. or take the piss out of your mates or enemies if that is your personality bent for the story, your NPCs dont really have any growth in the game either, or change-just a set pattern of behaviour. Things have been improved somewhat in BG2 , with the romance threads etc.,Jan telling his crazy jokes, but I dont think a lot can be done considering the format. The better role playing experiences are available on line-sadly you have to fork out a certain amount of money for it.
Dont get me wrong, I love the whole BG saga (and its nowhere near as terrible as Diablo 2, thats all just about hach, hack, hack...got very boring, very fast), but in terms of roleplaying your character there are limits. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif.
That said, I usually role play as much as I can in BG2. No stealing, usually take the chaotic good option, and no killing the good guys-though I was keen on a tangle with Drizt http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif.Heh I will do that 2nd(complete) time around though, with my evil character.

It depends...
On PnP both. I like roleplaying, but I always try to maximize him. (But not for kill. I usually play thiefs and like him with big stealing, climbing, hiding stats - note that I play GURPS and i LOVE the maximize my char in this system - i have a couple o tricks)

Computer games: i run much more like Overpower. I like to survive. I just cant role a char in PC. It's diferent. Even though BGII gives u lots os choices it isn't a PnP game.

BladeMaster 06-04-2001 08:39 PM

I am both. When I have beaten the game several times just rollplaying I then go for the powergammer to just have some fun.
