Not being a Spider Man guy - I can't give you the first real "Venom" appearance, but I do have the Secret Wars series, including #8 (or it could be 9 - without digging them up, I can't remember), the first appearance of the black costume which turned out to be an alien symbiote, and later Venom.

This has the most information I've found yet!

On that link, find the part where Sony is talking about possible villians and visit the sony website. There, you'll find A LOT of information on the bios of each baddie.

I've heard rumors to the effect that the deal was extended out to 6 movies (6 total, not 6 more) which would seriously rock. I'd like to see them bring in some of his super allies, like the Black Cat.

I'd fully support a trilogy now, and another 20 years down the road.

For some reason I just cant imagine Bruce Campbell as Quentin Beck.

It was number 8, and that is the first appearance of Venom...even though it wasn't fully sentient yet.

I actually did dig some of those old issues up after thinking about them again. I loved that series as a child, but some of the writing is terrible...particularly for the X-Men.

Wolverine (talking about Captain America): What? I won't follow him! He doesn't even have any powers!

Of course the writing was bad--they were still mostly writing for children/teenagers.

Just because something is written for teenagers it doesn't mean it should be of poor craft.

I know that. I suppose what I mean is "they didn't take extra care to make the writing/plot of higher quality because of their target audience".
