This is a great film, and I can't wait for the others to be released.
For information, we have a Movies Books and TV forum here at Ironworks - head on over and have a look (use the 'hop to' drop down menu at the bottom right of the page) because you will see that there is some discussion about both the film and book there. It is a great forum, and needs more new posters(although there are already a good number of regular posters there, so you won't be bored!) |
It is a great movie. You should see it Blind Prophet. The battles scenes are amazing and all the movie is fanatstic. If you are a fantasy fan DON'T MISS IT!!!

To me, no movie is ever as good as the book, particularly if it is from something like Lord of the Rings, and maybe it helped that it has been a long time since I read the books, but I thought the movie was fantastic and enjoyed it very much.

Actually, IIRC, all three movies are more or less done already, but they wanted to release it one at a time.

That's right - both the Two Towers and the Return Of the King have been filmed already. Just to add my voice to the chorus: I loved the movie as well!! Seen it two times now, planning on a third (Wow Hes, you've seen it EIGHT times?? FWIW I didn't think Elrond was too bad either! I loved the part where he battled alongside Isildur - really gives you an idea of how old elves really are ) It does help if you've read the books though - things like the hasty departure from Lothlorien and the relationship between Gimli and Legolas may seem flat if you don't know the background, but after reading the books, the characters are almost like family, and you can fill in the parts that are sketchy in the movie from your imagination/memory. oh yes, I have to agree with people here, if u havent read the books then read them, it will really enhance your understanding of the movie, and if you really want to understand just about everything you should read The silmarillion, the Hobbit and even The Language of Middle Earth, gives you a wonderful insight into the languages used by the various races of middle earth. I should imagine some of you thought elvish bares more than a slight resemblance to Welsh ..well if you read The Languages of Middle Earth you will see why ...includes a very handy English to Elvish dictionary aswell. The encyclopedia of Arda is a great resource aswell http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.htm

one more thing I highly recomend you see the film at least 3 times.

I'll say it again, if you miss it, it's your own BIG misfortune, I've read through the series several times, and ever since I first read it awaited a series, not knowing when they would, and now the first film of the three is out and it does the book justice if you ask me.

Lord of the Rings rules. plain and simple. No work of film is ever perfect, nor can it satisfy all the people all the time. But the fact remains that there is NO reason I would not recommend LOTR to any person whatsoever. it's amazing and captures the spirit of Tolkien and, more broadly, high fantasy perfectly imo.
The first battle scene with Isildur and Elrond and Sauron literally gave me chills. THAT IS HOW AWESOME FANTASY WARS LOOK LIKE. LIKE THAT! I've seen the movie twice, and I'm creaming my shorts over the thought of owning all three films of this trilogy on DVD in a few years. so, in short (or maybe not so short) YES, go see this movie. |

If you paid money to go see Dungeons and Dragons, then going to see Lord of the Rings is the only antidote to such horror.
By-the-by, all three films have been FILMED, yes, but it's going to take them a year or so to put the sfx in 'Towers'. They have to do loadsa stuff - Uruk-Hai armies, Ents, Shelob, GOLLUM... it's not just because they're being mercenary! |
