Nice going Leslie I'm about to solo a Priest of uulix through tactics :D I intend to get slaughtered, but i'm not bothered too much. I should hit level 15 soon enough, and get skeleton warriors which will help.

Look, who got chunkified on Camembert's way back to the guild:

Hahaha, annoying isn't he? Although, i always thaught that if i murdered him the gaurds would be on me like bloodhounds :D
[EDIT] Leslie, i decided not to go through with that: I didn't like AoE as a whole. [ 12-18-2004, 05:03 PM: Message edited by: TheGodThatFailed ] |

You need to be patient with Otyugh. I think I played at least 10 minutes real time with my F/T before I could finish him. Do not go against Crawlers, wait until they unsummon and then go backstab again. If you miss, go back to shadows. That's what I do in my NRL games since I don't risk too much. When you first backstab Otyugh he starts to regenerate really fast so it's best to hit him once and go untrap that room and then come back when regen wears off. He still regenerates but at a much slower rate.
I usually try either the room with all the cells in it. If I rest near the door, they spawn inside the room, then I run out quickly before they see me. Or I could clear out the first batch in the corridors leading to the library side entrance, the rest there and leave the new spawns in the dust. As for the Otyugh, I didn't realize their regeneration actually slowed down. My assassin learned with the duergar mages and thier spider summons to just run away until they disappeared on their own. I used HiS to sneak past the Otyugh and clear out the hallways on each side so that I would have multiple escape paths after the backstab. I don't mess with the carrion crawlers either. The one time I came close to killing the Big Ugly, his carrion crawler paralyzed me and that was the end of that round. I also have a few arrows of biting, so I will try multiple backstabs and then try to hit him with poisoned Arrows of Biting. The only problem is that the poison from the Otyugh is stronger than mine and almost kills me every time, which means I'm faced with suffering the damage or drinking up what few precious potions of healing I have found so far. And I have a feeling I'm gonna NEED those for the fight with these guys wandering through the library. Sorry to hijack your thread a bit, but I appreciate the advice. I'm seriously considering using the everpowerful Wand of CNTRL-Y against the new-spawns after each rest. Unless you have a multi-class character, there is just NO WAY to get ahead of them when you solo. My Skald would use all of his spells just to kill the new spawns, then he would have to rest, which would spawn more, which would use up all his spells, which meant he had to rest, which would spawn more, etc etc etc. |
Otyugh is immune to missile damage so I'm not sure if Arrows of Biting would actually work.
And about his poison: you need to save vs. death to avoid poisoning from Dolorous Decay. Halflings and Dwarves have very good saves! (not sure about Gnomes). Camembert never failed a save in my last game and he was hit at least 4 or 5 times with DD. ;) [ 12-19-2004, 03:52 AM: Message edited by: Leslie ] |
Mages, halflings and golems everywhere!
The next stop was the Planar Sphere. Camembert picked up Valygar (and stole his armor which will get very handy later ) in Umar Hills and used his blood to open the door. Valygar then waited outside for the outcome: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/8176/sphere11ha.jpg Oops, they hit really hard: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/9373/sphere28cy.jpg Many halflings later Camembert reached Lavok's chamber. He is not joking: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/6949/sphere34my.jpg His simmy Wagi helped with summons and archery: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/5589/sphere41ow.jpg http://img141.exs.cx/img141/4175/sphere50fe.jpg Lavok gave up and asked for help. Sure, let's kick some demon butt! Preparations: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/614/sphere62qg.jpg http://img141.exs.cx/img141/340/sphere75xb.jpg (still buffing :D ) ONE! http://img141.exs.cx/img141/2094/sphere85uk.jpg TWO! http://img141.exs.cx/img141/1207/sphere99kh.jpg THREE!!! http://img141.exs.cx/img141/3484/sphere101jp.jpg Calling wagi again: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/2815/sphere117yb.jpg If you enter the room invisible Tolgerias does nothing so you can fight only his apprentice mage: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/2118/sphere122kg.jpg Uhhh, Tolgerias wakes up: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/6593/sphere131ao.jpg After he got confused it was game over: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/3494/sphere143gq.jpg Transforming into a rat with Cloak of Sewers and holding DoE in off-hand gives Camembert 110% physical resistance: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/279/sphere157cb.jpg http://img141.exs.cx/img141/2753/sphere168ud.jpg The only problem was constant slowing from the golems so this tactic didn't work so well, it was time for the Shield of Reflection cheese combined with occasional hit from the shadows. Aaarrgh, this hurts: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/821/sphere177ky.jpg The bad guys are gone and the good guys carry on: http://img141.exs.cx/img141/8791/sphere188fy.jpg |
Some nice screens, there. Still pondoring what to solo through tactics, advice would be nice. Also, i didn't know the rat + DoE trick. Might put it into use sometime :D

- for powergaming: F/M, R/C, F/M/T, Blade or Sorcerer - for stealthy more cheesy approach: F/T, Swashbuckler, Assassin, Kensai/Thief, Archer, Stalker - for getting in trouble: Beastmaster :D (hmm, dualwielding Blackblood and Fulcrum and with fighter HLA's he could kick butt too ;) ) |
*woo 400 posts* I've heard that when reaching higher levels, swachbucklers are realy nasty in combat. I got a cleric/mage undergo atm, so that's a nono for sorcerer. I've played with a blade before, so nah to that too. I also have a R/C going. An archer could be interesting, as could a stalker and assasin. I've never been a fan of the kensai, either. So, what i'm left with, is an Archer, a swashbuckler, an assasin, a stalker, and beastmaster, but i'm not sure how he could beat a fighter in combat, so why not play one of them? I reckon I'll end up with an archer. Cheers for helping, Leslie :D
