Meh, there's a spoiler tag at the top of this thread. You don't need to put any spoiler tags if you post in here.

@Dundee: Yes.

Wooooo, after a long long long break, I'm finally back on track.

Will update with more info later.

***** UPDATE *****

Lots of stuff done since my last update. I fetched Daystar, destroyed the vampire cult, went to Brynnlaw, rescued Imoen, defeated Irenicus and then went to the Sahaugin city. Unfortunately I didn't have the Wisdom to charm the Beholder into giving me the tooth, so I had to kill him.

After that was all done, I went to the Underdark and cleared out the Beholder tunnels. Elder Orbs kept attacking Imoen, and imprisoning the Fighter....unfortunate, and resulted in a few reloads.

Next came working for the Drow. For the first time I actually checked the merchants in Ust Natha, they have some awesome stuff. Anyways, after enlisting with the Drow, I went and massacred some Ithillids, which fell quite easily with the protections offered by the greenstone amulet. Afterwards came the Kuo-Toa.

They weren't a challenge at all. The Demon Knights were interesting though, although Greater Whirlwind destroyed them.

After getting out of the Underdark, I went on a DragonSlaying quest. Firkaag came first, and died easily....Imoen got him with an Abi-Dhazim's.

The Shadow Dragon died easily as well. Nothing real hard about killing a Shadow anyway.

Visited Cromwell, got him to make me the Equalizer, Shadow Scale and Fire Scale. Now I'm looking forward to finishing up the rest of the quests that I have outstanding, and going on to massacre Bodhi.

*question*

Why does Shadow Dragon scale protect against Acid? Shouldn't it protect against negative energy?

They got the dragon's mixxed up, there is a black in the game, who's scales would provide adic protechtion, but it's a bit late by them..

Also the number of negative energy spell's in the game are near non exsistant.

Though I dunno for sure, but it's the best I can come up with on short notice.

SixOfSpades 11-16-2004 04:11 PM

Actually, he didn't get the Dragons mixed up--the Shadow Dragon Scale does indeed provide resistance to Acid. It's as if the Dragons switched scales: The Black Dragon drops no scales at all, as if they vanished in the sunlight or something.

Riftmaker 11-16-2004 07:47 PM

Yeah. I still say the Shadow's armor should provide immunity to level drain, and 'insta death' spells.

I can see their point though, but hey, if you can beat a Red Dragon, you likely aren't going to need extra help beating a Black. Being that Blacks are dumber, slower, weaker, and less powerful.

Stupid game shortcuts...grrrrrrrr.

Another question:

What do the following mods *do* exactly?

Virtue
Item Upgrade

I am thinking about installing them, but I remember installing a mod that put another merchant into the Adventurer's mart that sold ridiculously powerful weapons, and I don't want to do that again.

I'm only not ranting and raving at you now because I know you don't understand.

I said they, refering to the game designer's, not to the player in question.

Black dragon's have acid breath attack's, so their scales are resistant to acid, shadow dragons I don't know about their breath or scales other than a good guess it's a negative energy attack..

So as I was saying, there was a mix up in the scales.

Virtue adds a new variable, unsurprisingly called Virtue that operates on a 1-20 scale just like Reputation. Now, just as certain acts affected your Reputation before, acts can affect your Reputation as well. Say you tell High Watcher Oisig all about how you cleared out the Cult of the Unseeing Eye. Now, your name is known throughout the city as the exterminator of an evil cult, and your Reputation goes up. But because it's also a noble thing to eradicate a false god that was preying on the weak-minded, your Virtue goes up too.
Some events that raise or decrease Reputation will raise or decrease Virtue at the same time. Some events will affect Reputation, but not Virtue--and vice versa.
Most importantly, party members now look at Virtue instead of Reputation to determine how happy they should be. It is quite possible to walk around with 2 Virtue and 20 Reputation, and folks like Edwin and Korgan couldn't be more pleased. Virtue can also change YOUR alignment: Say you're Chaotic Good and you commit a dishonorable act which sends your Virtue down to 11. Bang, Chaotic Neutral, and it can change back just as easily.
This is the part that I don't like: If you're a Paladin, committing a SINGLE non-virtuous act will casuse you to Fall. I have not played a Paladin since installing Virtue because of this, nor do I think I will.

Item Upgrade is an expansion of Cromwell's and Cespenar's reportoire of useful tricks, wherein they can now take more items (or components of items) and combine them into more stuff. Some of the new gear is quite fitting for the game (Ring of Protection+1 & a Ring of Regeneration & a Diamond & 10,000gp = a Ring of Preservation), and some of it is (in many people's opinions) grossly overpowered. Thankfully, you can simply check out the README beforehand, to see if anything you might consider making would make the game too easy.

Ah, yes, I should have stated that more clearly. I meant, "Actually, he didn't get the Dragons mixed up--essentially, BioWare did."

If I had my way, all Dragons would drop their scales, indeed, three sets of them: Back scales for making into Plate armor, Leg scales for making into Leather armor, and neck scales for adding to Mage Robes.
