Also....in the beginning when Jon-Boy is doing some "experiments" on your character :D ...you never know what he had in mind xD

Viconias pic in BG1 is very bad, but wow what an improvement in BG2...im talking about how hot a picture in a computer gam is, im sad...

SixOfSpades 12-02-2003 04:22 PM

Wow....am I the ONLY person here who doesn't think ANY of the girls are hot?
Aerie: I'm not into pedophilia, thanks.
Viconia: I can't feel attracted to somebody who looks pissed-off all the time.
Jaheira: Could you look down your nose at me just a little bit more, dear? And by the way, what's with the hair? Last I heard, Druids didn't approve of metal.
Nalia: Decent-looking, I guess, but not pretty. Her mouth looks a little odd, and take those dumb rubber bands out of your hair.
Imoen: Dyed hair is not one of my turn-ons. Neither are facial scars, by the way, but why can't a simple healing spell take care of that, given that it took place quite recently?

Sorry, but it looks like all the good portraits went to the guys. Keldorn and Valygar score much higher on "handsome" than any of the girls do on "pretty"--at least in my book. And Valygar's ears aren't even placed evenly. So far, my votes for the Best Portrait (Female) are Skie from BG1, and the Unnamed Woman with the sword.

What do you mean??? [/QUOTE]There are a few portraits in BG1 that weren't assigned to NPCs in game. There's one with a woman holding up a sword, and the background looks wintery. It's the same portrait by the art dealer's stand in Waukeen's Promenade.

Also, did you know that if you choose a BG2 NPC portrait for your PC in BG2, the game will replace the NPC's usual portrait with someone from BG1? (Unless it's Imoen, Jaheira, Viconia, or Edwin--the game will substitute their BG1 portraits instead.) I can understand Ajantis for Anomen, but Coran for Valygar? Garrick for Haer'Dalis? Skie for Nalia?!. Why they assigned the portrait switch by class instead of by physical description is beyond me.

Anomen using Ajantis's picture would be a violation of his Cleric Ethos, as Ajantis is shown with what is definitely a sword-hilt. The Unnamed Male Human (wearing Plate armor) would have been better.

I can see substituting Garrick for Haer'Dalis, as at least he's holding an instrument. He'd better have cloven hooves and/or a tail, however, if he's supposed to be a Tiefling.

Skie for Nalia actually makes a great deal of sense, to my mind: Young Human noblewoman, not above a little stealing--but not too good at hiding it, though.

Coran for Valygar, however, defies all logic. He's supposed to be a semi-retired scout in the army, but anybody who looked like THAT would have been executed halfway through boot camp, just for purposes of general morale. Hello? Misshapen lunatic midget clown with a Shadow Thief mask going berserk with blood-dripping daggers? Does any of this sound like "Valygar" at all here? Hello? One really must wonder what those folks at BioWare were smoking at times. All it would have taken was one little suggestion, "Hey, instead of giving Valygar Coran's portrait, let's just use Kivan's." But nooooooo.

Actually, the "unnamed" portraits are assigned to characters, just not NPCs that you pick up along the way. In BG1, inside Candlekeep when you first start, there are various tests/quests you can do. One of them is a "group combat test" where your character (who is by himself at the time) is given 5 NPCs to command while a bunch of monsters are spawned. Most (if not all) of the unassigned pictures are for those "temporary NPCs" from that area. The "man in plate mail" picture is definitely one of the NPCs (I believe the cleric, but do not remember rightly).

SixOfSpades 12-02-2003 11:45 PM

You're right, Nerull, the "man in plate" is used by Canderous--but these pictures were primarily for the player to use, since the Illusionary NPCs pretty much don't care which pic they get (The "woman with sword" is used by Osprey...a Cleric/Mage.)

As far as I can tell, the only picture that never gets used is the Halfling with the tartan cap.
