Item? Is this purely about the Solaufein Mod, or something more? I skimmed through the replies, but failed to find 'an item'...

It is about the Sola Mod. I just chose not to mention what the item's name is.

Out of curiosity, who would you say is more overpowered: Solaufein, with his combining the #2 most powerful class in the game, 90% MR, and the Godstick of Smiting.....or Valen, the level-draining Fighter/Assassin with permanent Draw Upon Holy Might?

I would say Solaufein. At least with Valen she will be blighted by traveling in the daytime (yes, you can just rest until nighttime, but that can be a royal pain sometimes). She also has relatively low HP, but killing her is very hard (she turns into mist while she regenerates above a certain level; this keeps her around but takes her out of action for a while). It is relatively easy to get her damaged until she turns into mist, and she is still vulnerable to magic in mist form (and can't move to get out of the way in that form, either). The level draining is very overbalancing, but she also "acts up" quite a bit, getting you in lots of trouble (can close off some quests, etc.).

Truth be told, I know nothing about the Valen Mod save details mentioned by the members here, so I cannot compare it fairly with the Solaufein Mod. However, I still have no intention of installing Valen, since well... the Mod does not interest me.

Ditto, except that I have no interest in installing either of them.

I installed Valen, mostly because I wanted to play an "all evil" party, and did not want to play a thief (I was playing a necromancer, just because that is what I wanted to play). If you let Korgan tank, and have her come around the side, fights will be over very, VERY quickly (she'll drain them down in a heartbeat). In effect, she has her own version of The Paw, which counts as a dagger (and she has 5 stars in dagger) and does energy drain. Unless the enemy is immune to level drain, she can put a real hurting on anything you run into (especially if she backstabs a caster of some sort). Overbalanced, but I didn't want to play multiplayer and create my own thief, and there's not really too many other alternatives out there if I want an all-evil party (I read some threads, Six, where you were using Montaron. Did you start a multiplayer game and just create a character named Montaron, or have you cooked something up in this area?).

Sola I have never tried, but I have heard plenty of stories about how overbalanced he is. At least with Valen, she gets zapped during the day outside and she'll do things on her own that will get your party into trouble (she also closes off some quests for you, just by her being in your party).
