I like the Acid Katana, don't get me wrong, it's just when my mage usually uses an area effect spell she/he nearly dies instantly

That's it, I'm altering that crappy weapon so the acid backlash is gone, it's way too much of a cheese! Anyway, it is strong enough without it, time for some toning...yeah!

The common method of "softening" Sanchuudoku is to remove the Backlash and tone the Regeneration down to a more reasonable level. A +4 weapon that does Acid damage and lowers the victim's Acid resistance with each hit is quite a formidable tool.

Let us impale thee with thy own blade.

1) Cast Protection from Acid and Fire Shield( Blue or Red, depends on the situation).
2) Stand right next to Kuriosan and Magic Missile him.
3) Watch him fry/freeze to death.

I simply remeuved ze regen. As you say, alone it is formidable tool already! I even lowered the acid damage to 1d4. (it will do enough damage with creatures having negative acid protection )

Well, a powerful tool from a formidable foe, especially if you decide to get CF early on in the game.
