I think BG II just does this so they are not that vunrable against attacks and can hold out when they are attacked... it would be a little strange when Elminster falls after 2 hits of your Oversized blade.. :rolleyes:

Come on Elminster is on you look up to (in the beginning of the game, obviously you out rise him in the end of the game but... :D ) ... it would be strange when he has the same stats as my grandpa over here...

And maybe he is not determined in BG II with those stats from the ''Heroes Lorebook'', they could have used different stats for him.

Arkanis Gath (Shadow Thief Wrath) isn't a cheat, he is only there for the safety that YOU do not screw over the plot.

Just like when Bodhi does that ''all death spell'' when you attack her... it's a safety trigger because you aren't suppose to do that.

El has those mega hp's (for a mage) in 2ed because as some1 pointed out earlier he has been a fighter, a thief and a priest(ess). The original Hall of Heroes supplement also said that any skills in previous classes had been lost due to lack of use (but you cant really lose hp's through lack of use can you), well you could if you were a powerlifter i suppose who did'nt train...
