Nah, that does not necessarily make me happy. Really depends on how it is done...

So, the classes have "Paragon Paths" which are essentially kits for each of the classes, and they do the same thing with a lot of monsters - there are now several types of griffons for example. Oh, and hobgoblins are now just a type of goblin and titans are just a "class" of giants, e.g. you can have a titan fire giant who is bigger and stronger than regular fire giants...
Plus, they made dryads into bad-ass looking monster things - humanoid might not even fit.

Sounds a little bit like the upgradings in Heroes of Might and Magic III or V to me. Giant - Titan, Griffin - Royal Griffin, Goblin - Hobgoblin and so on. I like these games, but for an RPG system, it sounds odd.

And Uatu is right, Dryads have to look attractive.

I also am a fan of the old dryads. :)

I've said this before, but it seems to apply even more this time - why change everything and keep the name? If it's all new, give it a new name. I guess you could still call this Dungeons and Dragons, but add a word on at the front to let people know that they shouldn't expect the same thing. For example, they could have called 4th edition something like "Epic Dungeons and Dragons" or "Amazing Dungeons and Dragons". :D

Or maybe "Bizarro Dungeons & Dragons" or just "Stoopid Dungeons & Dragons." (Or maybe take the direct route with "Fanboy Dungeons & Dragons?")

Their refusal to call their game something new is what has basically put a stake into the original D&D game...

I do think they have taken too many ideas from video games/computer games in general, though, including the Might and Magic thing as Dinonykos said... In fact, sometimes it seems like a system to play a video game on paper, really...

We shouldn't be surprised. Hasbro is all about dumbing stuff down for the mass markets. They are directly responsible for the current spat of stupid Transformers cartoons.

Re: Art Requests

Hmm - they should put a unifying label on all of this, then...

BIZARRO Dungoeons & Dragons
BIZARRO Transformers

...and so on.

It could even work for them as a logo or something!

Re: Art Requests

I like the term bizarro, and some day will put out my bizarro expansion for AD&D, so they will have to use a more correct name. I suggest, "Lame-o". :D

Ah - that is better, I agree!

Re: Art Requests

Or, how about, "No Soul Dungeons and Dragons" or "Capitalist Dungeons and Dragons" :)

All are good suggestions - but "Lame-o" does have a nice ring to it :D
