Arlyth nodded, and asked, "Mind giving me a quick history lesson on the region we're about to enter?" his tone was soft, and his eyes seemed to be searching for something.

Gus also wanted to learn the history of this world they were about to enter, "Indeed, do tell us!"

As the party drew near the kreen emerged from the underbrush and began it's peculiar chittering "The forest is clear of danger for the moment, and I have waited here as you desired." The kreen ducked back into the brush to await the party's journey into the plains.

Alaerth waited patiently for the translation and told his thanks to the kreen before addressing the topic at hand, "From what we know, the people of this land, called the Romars, were extremely savage. I guess you could say they were like wild elves. Uncivilized and extremely behind in their technology. Nomads, who traveled from place to place within their land. About seventy five years ago, a man rode into Romar and decided to claim it for his own. He brought the people under control and forced them into one large city, where they now live to do his bidding. Scouts tell us that this man, by the name Lord Lothan, uses some type of magic to keep the Romars under his control. Rumours say he is a demon, or at least has a significant amount of demon blood in his veins. Since the people are unable to break free of Lothan's fist....they're not nice, and will attack strange people they think might be a threat. They do not wish their lives to be worse." As he finished, the tree line thinned and finally broke, and the party was standing with Xvim. Alae and Alaerth, with their animal insticnts, sensed the same threat that Xvim had. They went stiff, and a low rumble sounde in Alaerth's chest. |
Arlyth pondered on why his ranger skills, and natural talent, and draconic blood wasn't picking anything up, since his cousins were tense. After all, he was a ranger, and trained such. Not to mention his innate elven abilities. Glancing at Alae, he used animal empathy and limited telepathy to commune with her. "Whats wrong cousin? Why am I not detecting anything... is it magically hidden from sight?" he asked, knowing Alae would recognise the touch of his mind, whispering to her. The link was a two way thing, and she'd be able to reply back.
|
Alae's mind relayed confusion at why he couldn't sense it. He felt her pause, then suddenly his mind was flooded with a feeling of extreme danger, like someone was looming behind him with a knife to put between his shoulder blades.
"Stay sharp." Came Alaerth's voice, tight with what he felt. He shifted his legs and Moon Shadow moved forward, Alae close behind. |
Arlyth thanked his cousin grimly. "My thanks cousin, what do we do now?" he asked, knowing Alae would know what to do, total trust for her in his tone; effectively allowing her to guide him. Any other time, had the danger not been so great, it should have touched the half dragon, for it is rare that another would place such total trust in another, no matter how close...
|
Alae's mind was silent for a moment,
~follow Alaerth. He did visit here once, and can deal with the Romars.~ |
"Yes, Alae." he replied, his mental tone full of trust. His tone seemed to hold particular affection for her when he 'said' the word 'Alae'. If Alae had any doubts that her cousin loved her, she had none now. The elf inched his stallion beside Alae's keeping incredibly close to her. If Alae didn't know better, she would have thought her cousin was somewhat scared.
