OOC>>>What an exciting battle scene, Lord Starshadow! You have quite a creative ability there! I wish I could help out, but I have to wait my turn... :(

Morgeruat 12-02-2002 02:33 PM

<font color="99ff00">Morguerat quickly cocked and fired his crossbow when he heard the belch, thanking the gods that he had been behind her when it happened he withdrew his two handed sword and attacked the one that his crossbow hadn't hit swinging high, hoping that the force of his swing and the length of the blade would allow his swing (assuming proper room) to finish both combatants in one shot (OOC I know it's a long shot but it looks spiffy)</font>
<font color="CCCCCC">
(OOC: I expect some penalties for using a 5 1/2' blade in tunnels, and I'll let you decide if, and how much effect the x-bow had, I set it down facing the direction of the attack. the sword is a +1 sword of wounding (mentioned in my first post, one round to fire and drop x-bow, one to draw sword, and one to swing, my time is used up... I'll wait on everyone else before going again)</font>

<font color=lime>For the Morguerat formerly known as Sir</font>

<font color=thistle>A sudden explosion of pain from its stomach further disorients the confused grimlock. Scaly hands reach instinctively to the source of the pain only to have their fingers close around the shaft of something like an arrow. It’s partner steps forward swinging its axe about wildly in the direction that the tall man the two of them had attacked was standing. The axe strikes nothing but empty space until its flailing is brought to an end by the sweeping arc of a great sword that sends the grimlock’s head falling to the feet of his wounded companion. The sightless eyes of the wounded humanoid widen as the head strikes its feet. Too late it raises its axe to fend off a blow from the tall man. Its last moments of life are spent impaled upon the sword, gasping unsuccessfully after breath with which to scream.</font>

<font color=silver>ooc: You’ve managed to kill the two of them.</font>

the howl from a startled lion rings through the cave immediately following the belch. but as he goes unstunned he attacks the remaining standing grimlock in front of him. his two front paws drive powerfully claws extended. as one of his paws hits, the other misses. however he now has his mouth tearing into the grimlock.

ruby attacks one of the stunned grimlocks on the ground. she slashes with two clawed paws. and attempts to bite. the claws land one with excessive force, and she follows with raking her back claws, one missing.

OOC: nathan told me of a paladin thing where the knight can give experience to his bonded mount for leveling it and raising hit die. i have chosen this and placed wyrd at 9 hit die, or 9th level. however if it is unacceptable i will be happy ot edit my post. for ruby she is using animal affinity. having mostly telepathic psionics she has chosen this to avoid touching the minds of the dark things beneath the forums.

<font color="skyblue">OOC: The ruling she is reciting is from the paladins handbook, I can email it to you in part or in full in html/rtf/help file formats, but the relevent information is below, again if this is overpowered for her character we can/will adjust it accordingly

Improved Mount Abilities. Regardless of the species of her mount, the Equerry can improve the mount's abilities by assigning it up to half of her earned experienced points. As shown on Table 16, as the mount receives XP from the Equerry, it gains new Hit Dice. For example, assume the Equerry has received a light war horse (2 HD) as her bonded mount. The first 2,000 XP added to the horse don't affect its abilities. When the total added reaches 4,000 XP, the horse gains an additional Hit Die, becoming, in effect, a 3 HD creature.

As a bonded mount's HD increase, its abilities improve in the following ways:

• When the mount gains its first bonus die, it becomes lawful good. Its Intelligence score is also permanently boosted by +2.

• The mount fights on the Monster Attack Table as a monster equal to its Hit Dice. Table 16 reproduces this information from the Dungeon Master's Guide.

A mount can gain a total of 10 HD over its starting total, up to a maximum of 16 HD. Investing 1,000,000 XP in a light war horse raises it to a maximum of 12 HD; investing 2,000,000 XP in a griffon raises it to 16 HD. Should the mount be killed, the assigned XP are lost; note, however, that wishes and similar powerful magic can revive slain mounts.

Saving Throw Bonus. The mount makes saving throws as a fighter of a level equal to its current hit dice; that is, it uses the unmodified numbers on Table 5 in Chapter 1 of this book (a light war horse raised to 12 HD needs to roll a 7 or better to avoid the effects of paralyzation). When the Equerry rides the mount, however, the mount receives the paladin's standard +2 bonus (a mounted 12 HD war horse saves at 5 or better against paralyzation). Further, if a spell or other magical attack would affect both the mount and the Equerry, the mount automatically saves if the rider saves.</font>

<font color=silver>ooc: <font color=lime>RevRuby</font> - Your post is fine and I see no reason to change it.

<font color=turquoise>Let's tweak the above-cited rules a bit though:</font>
1. Wyrd will be able to get no more than 10 hit dice.
2. Wyrd will save as a monster of 9 hit dice [or 10 should he advance] with no bonuses. Saves for Ruby and Wyrd are always made separately.
3. Since it would take nothing short of a wish to bring Wyrd back should he die, I see no need to worry about the lost experience proviso.</font>

Dankorona feels a sharp pain bit into his side as some hideous ferocious humanoid creature appears out of the darkness to attack him. He then hears a loud belch and the creature drops to the floor writhing in pain. Dankorona was not really a fighter, but he would do what he had to. He had lived in these tunnels all his life, and these tunnels were not a firendly place. Dankorona reached for his tiny hammer, and slugged the nearest creature with it. It bounced off his armor doing no real damage. He brought it again on this creature. This time the blow struck home a satisfying crunch was heard as the hammer met the front of the recovering creature's skull. Dankorona hurredly readies himself for another blow as the creature recovered, but it was too fast for him. The creature swing its axe in a wicked backhand blow that never met its mark. As the creature fell stone dead a ball of shadows removved its crimson blade from the creature's back. Dankorona smiled weakly at Dantes and looked around to see if any of his companions needed help.
OOC: hope this works for everyone. Syrathic if you dont finish it off next round I have a spell that might help you out quite a bit

Lord Starshadow 12-05-2002 01:46 AM

<font color=lightgreen>After striking the shadow creature, Syrathic watched as it ran from the light and disappeared into the shadows once again. "This is a fairly intelligent creature. It knows how to use its advantages. I may have to wait for back up."

The elf could hear the battle raging on behind him. The sound of a lion's roar added to the cries of pain from the Grimlocks as they fell. "We must be winning," he thought. "My companions certainly know their way around a battle, it seems. I only need to worry about keeping myself from harm until they've finished their business. Easy enough... I hope."

He put his back to the wall once more, eliminating the chance of being attacked in the back. His fingers excitedly rubbed the hilts of the blades he held as the adrenaline rush of battle filled him. But he remained calm and did not charge ahead in the darkness. "I cannot see the beast normally, so it would do me no good to let that thing draw me into a place where it has the advantage. I need to try and turn the tables."

The elf began to inch toward the light, but as he moved, he tried to use his ability to see illusions. It was something he had learned in his early days, and it had been useful during his days living in the forests. He wasn't incredibly skillful, but it had been helpful many times before. "It may not help, but it gives me a chance to be prepared if the creature tries to attack me from the shadows again." Remembering that his companions may not know that there was this beast ahaed of them, and with the battle seemingly approaching a conclusion, the elf called out, "There's a creature of shadow ahead of us. I cannot see it, as it is able to hide in the shadows and does not radiate heat. It's smart enough to stay away from the light, so I won't be able to draw it closer. When someone has the opportunity, give me a hand here. I'll fend it off until then."</font>

ooc: Cyril, Syrathic has a low middle range chance of detecting illusions, so if this skill is able to reveal the creature, I'll let you decide if he's successful. Dantes, looks like your help will be required.

Thanks for the compliment, Larry. I really appreciate it.

Also, I forgot to compliment mistral on the choice of spell. It was really amusing!

RevRuby 12-05-2002 12:19 PM
