just a quick note, the shadowlands I referred to in my post is the Ethereal plane, it holds demiplanes - magically created lands ruled by powerful wizards or other creatures (Ravenloft exists in the Ethereal plane), as well as being the place where ghosts exist partially (and other noncorporeal creatures) travelling it allows one to walk through walls or even walk to the elemental planes if one knows the route.
