LoL, see I've never seen a fallen paladin as a specifically evil person, more like a normal guy who tried to hold himself to an unrealistically high standard and couldn't maintain the illusion in his own mind, or gave in to temptation and fell from grace, like Lancelot with Gwenevere, to put it into RP terms he wasn't evil, but he seriously transgressed and should have lost his special connection with diety that elevated him above "lesser" men. Most likely still good of heart, but not fanatical enough to maintain a paladin's status.

Then again the best stories are about heroes who fall into a twisted semblance of what they once opposed, our own Reaper and Larry Lord of the Shade are perfect examples.

Of course TSR's paladin's handbook tried to impose the Oriental ideal of courtly love onto an occidental ideal of nobility, courtly love being that it is truly noble to fall in love with an "unattainable" woman, such as a princess, queen, married woman, or otherwise unrealistic goal, either by virtue of social status or marital vows, actually expressing emotion to that person would be considered a major loss of face. Doesn't really fit the western ideal of chivalry.

aye indeed I did, I figured you were kidding, but it's not an unreasonable assumption for a character to make, given that the ultimate bad guys get all the press.

Next week for me is the week of the end of year exams, and they are sort of important if I want to make it to next year, so my posting shall be greatly restricted next week, maybe even suppressed. Luckily my characters aren't in too active groups. ;)
