The Party

The specter stared at Skye blankly for a moment. "You will... Help me?" Slowly, a smile crept across her ghostly face. "Bless you, child! Bless you!"

The woman sent her hand straight through the chest, pulling something out of it within her clenched fist. She looked at Skye again, an eyebrow arched. "I know all that whispers within these walls, if nothing else, young one. And so, I shall make you a fair trade. I will answer your question if you promise to deliver this to my dark friend." She held out her closed fist, offering whatever was within it in exchange for the promise.

Pathris looked at the other members of the group. They were mesmerized by the apparition, it seemed. "Would someone make the damned promise so I can get back to work?" he asked, obviously irked. Seeing no reaction from his party, Pathris stepped forward and held out his hand. "I promise to deliver this to whomever you say in exchange for some information and the chance to take whatever's in that chest. Oh, and you have to keep this delay here as short as possible. I'd like a little time to work, but I don't really want to be in here for more than an hour or so." He gave his best smile. "Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated."

lurin looked at Pathris as he approached the specter. he did not make a comment, he just hoped that what the specter intended to hand over was not what Pathris was expecting.this could get interesting Lurint thought. looking towards the specter lurin spoke "i think Pathris would be perfect for the job, he is reliable, trustworthy and above all thinks before he acts" luruin smiled as he said this, to try to make his suggestion more authentic, and to try to convince the specter. he looked towards Turgon, and whispered "lets see what the specter has got in mind for Pathris".

Turgon looked at the scepter. First with sorrow, and then with happiness after Skye had offered to help her. He wanted to speak sooner, but it was something that held him back. Why, he didn't know, but he almost felt like that no matter what he'd say, it would come out wrong and that his words wouldn't be worthy of the ghostly woman.
Lurin broke him out free from the 'spell', though. He smiled at his comment, and nodded. Turgons eyes never broke free from the apparition, though. Carefully, he bowed before her, and spoke with a low and careful voice.
"If there is something we can do to help you," he said, "we would gladly do it. But, before I make my final desicion, is it possible to know what the lady holds in her hand?"
Turgon looked at the others, nodded, and then turned his eyes once again to the scepter, awaiting a reply.

Lurin looked towards the specter, and then at Turgon.it seems they are under some kind of spell....maybe thats what the delay is...no...i wonder if she is just stalling for time...what could be in her hand he looked at Turgon again, his eyes fixed upon the specter. looking towards Pathris he saw he was not fully concentrating and looked impatient.

walking over to him lurin muttered quietly "everyone seems to be under some kind of spell, Turgon is fixed on her, i'm not sure but maybe she is using a spell to take our minds off what we are meant to be doing. i have seen this happen before" he looked at the specter and then back at Pathris again " are you sure you know what you are doing excepting what is in her hands, it could be a lot more than you bargin for" he walked around the rom, ingoring the specter, he expected her to be a diversion of somesort, what use did she have on her own.

Pathris waited patiently for the apparition's response, but none had come yet. Lurin had finally gotten loose of his trance, at least. "If you don't think I can handle it, then go ahead and take it for yourself," he said to the ranger. "I just want some answers and some time to look at that chest over there." He paused for a moment. "Besides, if it's something bad, I can count on my friends," he twisted the word, "to help me out, right?"

He looked again at the specter. She truly was beautiful, but her sadness had marred her looks too much for Pathris to be enchanted. He knew about sadness, but at least he could brush his aside. True weakness was showing that there was weakness, after all.

Lurin annoyed at Pathris and his arrogence walked back to the specter, he was getting a little impatient now, and was curious as to what the specter had in her hands."we'll help you but we need to see what you want to give us" lurin sais this with a hint of impatience as he knew they had been in this important room for far too long. he also was still quite unnerved about the bars.

The specter opened her closed hand, palm upward, holding out to Lurin an innocent looking amulet. On it was the depiction of a chain and a piercing blue eye. She looked hopefully at Lurin. "There is no trickery, I promise. I only want this delivered to my friend. Then I will tell you as much as my power can allow. Which may be a dissapointing amount. I am fading, you see. I will be free when I am gone, but I would not see my friend again, and so I must see this amulet delivered. Please promise me this."

Skye looked at the others then looked back at the apparition determinedly. "I'll take it," she said. "They're obviously all worried that this will be a trap, so if it is, I won't be much of a loss, I'm sure." She reached out and laid her hand upon the amulet. "I believe my companions want to ask you some questions," she continued quietly.

Lord Starshadow 01-17-2003 04:19 AM

Pathris watched as the appartion held out an amulet, which Skye decided to take. Pathris shrugged and walked away. "Well, whoever wants to take it, then. Just trying to help, that's all."

He went back to the chest he had been trying to study before the specter had appeared. It seemed that he might finally get the chance to do his thing. He gazed at the chest and the floor around it, looking for any sign of traps and their difficulty. He also looked for a lock on the chest. He just hoped he could handle all the traps and lock, but it was a fleeting thought. He had great confidence in himself, after all.
