Hello everyone! It's been a while since I visited the forum. I upgraded my computer a bit (I now have 256 mb ram and a 40 gig harddrive). The annoying part is that the game's still sluggish from time to time. I'll save you the trouble and put my specs here:

PIII 500mhz
WIN98
256 mb ram
40 gig harddrive (with a 2,5 gig swapfile)
Matrox Millenium g400 dualhead 32mb ram

The problem might be the 3d card. It's quite slow as far as the game performance goes..

OK, I´ve seen a lot of unanswered messages including the following:
Quote:

*The instruction at 0041783d referenced Memory at 079a9758 The memory could not be read from

*Game crashes when talking to NPC´s

*Game rashes when using/giving objects
All these are trademarks of running W&W on win2k. I do the same and my game´s now working like a charm, well almost that is but still better than it did when I was running win98!

*First download the compatibility update from Microsoft, that´s here: Microsoft. I don´t know if it helps with this game but it certainly helps with other ones.

*Then log in as Administrator, recomendation for win2k is to always install games/programs when logged in as administrator!! Create a shortcut, either in startmenu or on desktop for c:\....\wizardswarriors\deep6.exe.

*Then rightclick the shortcut, select the compatibility tab, check "run in compatibility mode", then select either win98 or win95. I don´t know which is the better...

*And of course extract the townavi files with virtualdub!!! Links are found earlier in this post!

*The game ought to work now and you´ll be able to talk, give, cast spells and open chests! BUT, the game can still freeze sometimes so SAVE often!!!

<marquee behavior=alternate>*NOTE! This post is for win2k only</marquee>

ps. Wyv, Saz etc, feel free to remove the marquee tag if disturbing! I´m sure there´s a better tag for getting attention, but I don´t know them, lol...

As I recall your computer configuration, you should not have had a problem with the town avi files installing correctly, but maybe you do. Check the last page of the BEST TIPS thread for the post on VIRTUALDUB and try doing that to see if that will solve the problem.

Not completing an area such as the Temple or Toad Village has nothing to do with it at all. I know I always visit Ishad N'ha before I even think about doing the Serpent Temple.

64 megs of RAM may be part of the problem. It never hurts to have more RAM. Try the virtualdub fix and see if that solves the problem.

First off hello.

Now to the problem, ive just reinstalled W&W after an absence of a few weeks and now I find I can no longer select the magic shop, town hall and one of the town exits in the first town other buildings in the second and yet more in the third I have tried installing several times Both full and small installs, with and without the patch, but its the same no matter what.

My system is as follows

Win 2000 pro SP2 (all the updates)
AMD Thunderbird 1ghz CPU
Abit KT7A MB
1.5gb ram
Maxtor Diamond MAX 30gb drive
16X Samsung DvD drive 7200kbs cd 21000kbs dvd
GeForce 2MX 64mb
SoundBlaster 5.1 Live!
DX 8.1

Ive run the game before on win 2000 pro with no trouble can anyone help out?

Welcome to the board, wolfmoon!!

Okay since you have reinstalled your game, Go to the inn and collect your party. I think that may be your problem - they are not actually active yet but waiting in the inn to be selected.

See if that doesn't do the trick! IF NOT - Get back to us and we'll see what we can figure out!

wolfmoon -

the other possiblity is that your town files have not opened correctly. Check the last page of the BEST TIPS thread and use the VIRTUALDUB fix. That should take care of your town problem!

I was thinking that probably was too obvious but it has been the problem before. Then I was rereading your post (since it doesn't just display below when I'm replying because the thread is so BIG) and thought - no it's that virtualdub and W2K problem!
Hope that fixes it for you!!
