Damn and blast!

Sever 11-24-2006 11:15 PM

Damn and Blast indeed. :D All out for 159. 6 of 'em to the old man, no less.

Looks like it may go for five days.

Ponting decided to bat again.

"Bowler preservation" is Kerry O'Keefe's analysis - because of the back to back tests. Unexpected. A good move when thinking about it. Think of the psychological damage England would have facing an 800 run total....

Aragorn1 11-25-2006 02:43 PM

Its not worth me staying up to watch this stuff. :( Think I might go to bed before 4am today, prolong the agony of the score until the morning.

157, actually. And on ehe same pitch that was called by the English comms as a "minefield", the OZ managed to score 1-181 at stumps in less than a day. :D

England fighting back somewhat in their second innings in pursuit of 648 though - they're at 5-289 and may yet take this match to tea on the final day.

Yorick 11-26-2006 02:34 AM

Good to see a fightback!

wellard 11-26-2006 02:50 AM

If it rains tomorrow then Punter will have more than a bad back to worry about. Good fightback today and good to see some competitive cricket. Warne v Petierson was a classic :D

It's deja-vu all over again :D

Aragorn1 11-28-2006 05:03 PM

Well, we like to give you a test head start, its only sporting...

/end blind omptimism/bravado

Callum 11-28-2006 05:22 PM

We did the same thing last year! Australia went one up, then lost. :D

Sever 11-28-2006 11:31 PM

That's why you won't hear me bragging any time soon...

Long day in the field for the OZ today. If we can knock over KP and Collywobble with the new ball early tomorrow it might get us back in the match. But with Lee bowling, fat chance eh.

Harmison's troubles masked Bings poor effort in the first test. Ooh Aah was suffering with his heel injury so it may be up to Warne to deliver the goods tomorrow. If we dont knock them over early it might be a draw at best for Australia.

Leonis 12-02-2006 12:05 AM

Wow! England are 3/457... Collingwood just made 200 and Pieterson's on 130 something...
They've destroyed our bowlers. This is going to be one hell of an ashes I reckon!

Leonis 12-02-2006 12:15 AM

Ah Collingwood's finally out for 206! Not before time either. In fact, well after time. C'mon Aussie!

burnzey boi 12-02-2006 02:58 AM

Nerf England.

burnzey boi 12-02-2006 02:59 AM

Trivia Question:

Who won the first ever Ashes and what date? (No peeking on Internet :D )

Callum 12-02-2006 08:33 PM

Ho ho!

It's all change now!

Why are there no other Englishmen in here being smug? :D

Yorick 12-02-2006 11:03 PM

The Aussies will do alright. Basically two English batsmen came good. Collingwood and Pieterson.

Australia have Ponting and Hussey in, and either of those two good do very well. Then, there's Clarke and Gilchrist to come, so I reckon two of those four will get things back on track. Plus the tail wags with Warne, and Lee (who has an avg of 22).

It's not over yet by a long shot.

Yorick 12-03-2006 12:25 AM

There we go! Ponting's got a ton!

Yorick 12-03-2006 01:41 AM

Ponting 133, Hussey in his 70's! It's all on!

Leonis 12-03-2006 02:00 AM

Damn! Punters is gone... Thought he was gonna go for the double too.

Memnoch 12-03-2006 03:02 AM

What a rotten way for Hussey to get out, couldn't get the bat out of the way quick enough and inside edged it onto the stumps for 91.

Since then Pup and Gilly have been rebuilding by going on the offensive - Gilly just cut Freddie away violently past point for 4, and then Clark deflected Hoggy off his legs to deep mid on for 4 more.

But it's an uphill struggle to get to 400 I reckon. We may get past the follow on, but not much further than that.

Aragorn1 12-03-2006 06:16 AM

I'm still livid that Giles dropped Ponting when Aus had about 89. Think he may have dropped the test there...

Well he certainly dropped any chance of the poms winning this match. :D
Ponting does not give many chances and you have to take them. Ive not seen much if anything of Giles replacement Monty but surely he can bowl better and cant be a worse fielder?

wellard 12-04-2006 03:44 PM

So Hoggard finaly bowled Australia out! A lead of a hundred at the change of innings and Monty in the team might have seen the poms still in with a chance but the only result now is a draw or Warne to spin an Australian victory.

Yorick 12-04-2006 06:42 PM

Draugh! Draugh!

Aelia Jusa 12-05-2006 12:43 AM

A very exciting final session now! Like a one day match. Shame about the borefest for the first three days.

T-D-C 12-05-2006 01:17 AM

Yeah its almost like a 20/20 game for the aussie batsmen. Lets smash taht ball all over the place.

Not looking good at 2/33 though.

T-D-C 12-05-2006 03:28 AM

And we got it!! WOOT!Aussies 2 Poms 0

Davros 12-05-2006 03:40 AM

LOL - 550 behind after one innings - and we still win :D .

That has GOT to hurt .

Loved Petersen giving away the 7 to Pup - classic.

Yorick 12-05-2006 04:08 AM

Wow.

I watched it at an Aussie bar in Manhattan, and boy was that a great vibe. Packed full of Aussies, we all became best mates, and had a rip roaring time!

What a great days cricket.

And now I'm stuffed. 4am.... need to sleeeeep.
