Galadria says that Viconia has been making a special poisoned dart that will hit him in the eye when he looks down her cleavage. ;)

Dreamer128 08-07-2004 05:29 PM

Hm.. then hopefully I can convince Jarlaxle to explain the source of his 'special' eyepatches to me ;)

DrowArchmage 08-07-2004 05:35 PM

his eyepach protects him from mental attacks

Dreamer128 08-07-2004 05:37 PM

Well, I'm sure I'd go mental if I got hit in the eye with a poisoned dart. ;)

Bozos of Bones 08-07-2004 05:47 PM

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, and all the other 3E books. A little info on the side from friends and games, but books are my main source of info.

DrowArchmage 08-07-2004 05:51 PM

I think their Dark-skins were a punishment from the gods, after they've lost the war against the other Elven races. As for females.. they're just an evil subrace of humanity ;)
IIRC, the Drow once dwelt in the jungle and a hot climate, hence their dark skins. Of course, when they made war on their kin and were forced underground, the dark skin remained...

Illumina Drathiran'ar 08-08-2004 12:50 AM

Depends on which story you hear. Other theories state that they share the ebon skin of Lloth, the mother of the race, as it were.

Link 08-08-2004 02:33 PM

Or they just had a shoeshine accident :D

Attalus 08-08-2004 03:27 PM

I just think it was because black-skinned Elves with white hair and beautiful, large-bosomed women with whips sounded sexy to somebody. ;D

Stratos 08-08-2004 04:14 PM

What? Did you create the Drow, Attalus? ;)

Attalus 08-08-2004 06:45 PM

No, I think somebody with a lot closer ties to TSR than I do did that. I wish I could. ;)

Timber Loftis 08-08-2004 07:48 PM

Interesting thoughts on the dark-skinned nature of drow. Here's another one to toss in the mix -- natural selection. For at least some time the Drow probably lived closer to the surface and survived by night raids. Such conditions would have naturally selected for darker skin.

Bozos of Bones 08-08-2004 08:06 PM

Nope, it hasn't been that long. They haven't survived by night raids, that's something they do for fun(make spider queen happy). They've always been a bit dark skinned, even brown, but then they were cursed by gods and cast into the caverns.

Encard 08-08-2004 08:47 PM

According to the 2ed Complete Book of Elves, drow appearance (black skin, white hair, red eyes) is an echo of their internal corruption. The section saying this also mentions their dealing with "the forces that would one day corrupt them" shortly before saying this, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with their dealing with fiends, as well (I assume that's part of the forces mentioned).

DrowArchmage: You've read the War of the Spider Queen books that are out so far, right? Some of what you've said sounds like it, but just checking.

How does it feel to know that your God, Lloth went silent, and Ched Nasad was destroyed?

Watch out, The Duergar are coming to Menzo with the stonefire...

[If ya don't get it, read the 'War of the Spiderqueen' Sextet series)

DrowArchmage 08-09-2004 07:26 PM

yup, thats about right.did you read the 3rd book?

T-D-C 08-09-2004 08:46 PM

From reading this thread I just ordered the first 5 books in the war of the spider queen series. I keep asking my post man where my books are.

HURRY UP AMAZON! Bring me my books!

Attalus 08-09-2004 08:54 PM

Ched Nasad? But, I was Veldren from Ched Nasad! Whoops, sorry, BGII flashback, please ignore. :D

Illumina Drathiran'ar 08-09-2004 10:10 PM

Haha... No worries, Attalus.. The city was destroyed after the events in BG2.. In fact, many of the books take place after that.

Dreamer128 08-10-2004 07:46 AM

Can't believe I missed that. I really need to read War of the Spider Queen.

Checks the price: Hm.. each book costs € 23,74 (28 US Dollar). Outrageous. How do they expect to sell at such prices?

I've read the latest one, book 5. And MAN..... I'll just say that book 5 is VERY good, but my favorite Author (which is a member here btw), Paul S. Kemp is doing book 6. And Choc becomes the new Drow god. (JUST kidding) but book six should be awesome. I am glad Paul is the one to close this series, because he'll do it right!!

Hey T, After you read them, in my NWN mod, you'll love those Pharaun and Ryld Item sets even more, and get a background on them.

Pharaun is the new Drizzt. But mortal.

Yeah, I know.. I don't do hardbacks much unless its something I REALLY Want to read. Sitting here, looking at all 5 books, and thinking THATS $125!!! damn.... But these are MAJOR world altering books for the Drow. And In my NWN Mod EfU, I throw tons of references to loads of Forgotten Realms Novels. So if you read the Novels, you will be rewarded with some cool stuff and items.

Dreamer128 08-10-2004 08:06 AM

True enough. I think my local D&D store sells some of them (paperback) for 6.99 each. Maybe they can order the rest of the series

Really? Is this common knowledge, or was I the only one who didnt know? Wow, that's really cool. Well, I spose he likes to keep his privacy, huh? Ah well, just curious, heh.

Attalus 08-10-2004 10:18 AM

Hmm, I'll have to look into those books. Forewarned is forearmed...

Ah, I see. Never heard of him, myself. But I don't read much into the D&D fantasy setting, so I probably wouldnt. Well, anyways, more power to him!

DrowArchmage 08-11-2004 06:33 PM

i dont know when the 6 book comes out,the 4th one isnt even out in paperback here yet.

T-D-C 08-11-2004 06:48 PM

I've just ordered the first 5 in Hard back. Sure it was expensive, but hey I like to buy my books all at once.

Calaethis Dragonsbane 08-12-2004 01:06 AM

I've a question. Who do you think is the "coolest" drow, and why does Drizzt suck so much? :D

Lady Blue03 08-12-2004 01:08 AM

Alliene is the coolest drow :D

Calaethis Dragonsbane 08-12-2004 01:11 AM

Wasn't asking you, nyah. And he wouldn't know who "Alliene" is. But psst, she's a big, smelly, drow who loves the Spider Queen and dates Drider!
