The forecasts say we may get some snowhere in the Netherlands as well. Looks like that snow Cloudy mailed me a while ago is about to arrive at last
Although by now, it'll be all watery and gone before it touches the ground :(

Good morning, all. I stayed up too late again, last night. MagiK, did you read John Derbyshire's column on NRO today. Pretty sweet way to start the day. :D

Timber Loftis 04-08-2003 10:26 AM

Attalus! That link goes on the War Forum!!

Plus, it wasted a small chunk of my morning, as I read every available link provided to other - *gasp* - NRO articles. ;) Boo to you for making me read the NRO. A trap most devious and cunning.

MagiK 04-08-2003 10:26 AM

<font color="#ffccff"> HiHo Attalus No haven't had a chance to check out NRO yet this morning...will have to hop over there in the mean time I have something to PM to you ;)

MagiK 04-08-2003 10:30 AM

<font color="#ffccff"> Hi ya TL Penn and Teller Friday night addressed one of your pet peeves GM foods Was great and I loved it, youmay not be as pleased with it as I was...and to be honest it was a short segment so details were not as in depth as could have been. </font>

Heyo people
Attalus- SHAME ON YOU! You knew poor stoopid TL wouldn't be able to resist reading that! :D

I love that smiley! Everybody do one, it's so cool!

Timber Loftis 04-08-2003 10:35 AM

I can only imagine, MagiK. The last time I will ever seek to watch Penn & Teller occurred when they were on Fear Factor. They came on as a group. Penn did all the work, and Teller was just a lazy a-hole the whole time. Even the host expressed his pleasure that Rudy from The Cosby Show beat them in the end. ;) Penn seems cool. Teller is useless. (Did I get them mixed up? Hope not. You get the point.)

And, it looks like they could use a little edumacation on GM Foods. If they attacked the dietary concerns, they certainly missed the point. ;)

Good to see you, BTW. Off on a super-secret mission again?

MagiK 04-08-2003 10:52 AM

<font color="#ffccff">Naaa no secret missions this time I was given a 4 day weekend for going above and beyond the call of duty as it were So I was completely lazy Friday thru Monday.... It was a nice mini-vacation :D

Penn is the Big guy Teller is the skinny short guy. They do a first rate Job on the BullShit series. They attacked the leaders who allow millions to starve to death rather than use available GM foods to keep them alive....starvation trumps dietary prissyness every time.</font>

[ 04-08-2003, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: MagiK ]

Timber Loftis 04-08-2003 11:09 AM

"Dietary prissyness." If that wasn't so damned funny I'd give you a Whackya. Well, I'll concede that point about starvation. But me, I live in a spoiled rich country where basic food is not a concern, so I can consider things like the environment. And, it is a privilege I enjoy exercising. ;)

Did you know we still make and export DDT even though it's illegal here? We send it to places where cheap chemicals are more important that a fear of cancer (as the people really don't live long enough to die of cancer). Same principle applies.

MagiK 04-08-2003 11:19 AM

<font color="#ffccff">Actually yes I did know about DDT, and I also know they estimate that 30,000 people a year die from malaria and other mosquito bourne disease each year due to the inability too get enough DDT...so is the massive ban on DDT worth those 30,000 deaths? hmm death by DDT...or possible death at an older age from cancer...tough choice.

One point P&T made was that people in rich food abundant nations should "shut the (expletive) up about GM foods" when it comes to feeding those who are starving and facing death due to lack of food. Organicly grown food would only feed a small portion of the worlds population (due to low yeilds per acre), it has been and will continue to be genetic modification and tinkering that has allowed us to continually feed a larger and larger number of people with the land available for growing of food.
Asia would suffer a massive population death if they did not have access to Gm products. Africa is suffering massive numbers of deaths due to not wanting to use GM products. Errr but maybe this is getting tooo heavy for the Cafe ;) </font>

<font color="#ffccff">YO TL, Attalus and Nacht. Check yer PM's people ;) </font>

Timber Loftis 04-08-2003 11:32 AM

Let me really rattle your cage, MagiK. If you're so "pro" regarding anything to feed the starving masses, then you should know we'd be able to feed 10X the population if we QUIT EATING MEAT.

But, then again, we're all familiar with my Overpopulation bone, so this is the reason I quit eating meat. And, not eating meat is not something I advocate for others - as I see it as a choice as personal as any out there.

But, for feeding the masses - corn goes much farther than pork or beef. Irrefutible.

MagiK 04-08-2003 11:45 AM

<font color="#ffccff">TL your "quit eating meat" comment would make sense if it were necessary but it isn't we can feed the world without removing meat from our diet. Cattle grazing lands are nto necessarily lands well suited to raising crops and even then, to raise enough food you still end up needing modified crops, cross polination, grafting, genetic modifications all of it are needed and have been in constant use since man became agrarian. Do you think strawberries grow that big in nature? hell no...they are treeny little things smaller than your thumb.

Over population may be a problem, but not here in the US. There is plenty of room for 300million people or even 600 million on the continental US. The places where we are over populated are mostly in the Asian sphere of things.</font>

<font color=deeppink>Good afternoon folks. I see Timber is on a spamming rush as usual. ;)

Hello MagiK. Where have you been hiding? Haven´t seen you in here for some time. Have you been spamming the war forum? ;)

Fluffy is doing great once more. Creating a new boot sector as well as a new MBR seems to have made her into a happy little girl.

So the discussion on the forum is now about bras and batteries? I feel my thwacking urges arise. :D </font>

Night Stalker 04-08-2003 01:17 PM

*pops in, gets dizzy watching Kaltia bouce off the walls*

Kat, did you forget your Ridlin (sp?) today? Here, have a turkey sandwich and a cuppa Earlgrey.

<font color="deeppink">Willow</font> ... every time you mention <font color="deeppink">Fluffy</font>, I picture an adorably cute white Persian kitty - NOT a computer! That or a floating affro-ized TL head! (does anyone else remember that <font color="pink">Pink Panther</font> cartoon?)

Anyway, I thought the <s>Circular Discussion</s> War Forum was the Headbangers Ball

Magik, been awhile ... hows things?

What was the topic again? Batteries ..... bras ..... Battery Powered Bras? With neon lights?!? Yea, as if they didn't grab enough attention already!

Ok ladies, I'll save you the trouble ....

Mmmmmmm ..... strawberries .....

Where were we again .... oh yea, Fluffy's Battery Powered Bra Emporium ....

Kaltia 04-08-2003 01:20 PM

Night stalker; It's good to see you again! It's been a fair bit of time since you last posted here, IIRC, so where have you been?

MagiK 04-08-2003 01:25 PM

<font color="#ffccff">Hiho Night stalker I was on a well earned 4 day break and before that I was on a "secret" mission that I can't discuss But love leaving it open ended to keep people curious. </font>

He had a hard time tracking down a sachet of instant coffee ;)

Night Stalker 04-08-2003 01:45 PM

Yea that whole "need to know" OPSEC thing ... know what you mean. It really buggers people when you say "I can't tell you"! I'm betting it was an official OFO mission! :D :D

Kat I'm usually around here somewhere (GD, Morrowind, or <s>Propaganda</s> <s>Circular Discussion</s> War Forum), but don't always have time to post. We're in the middle of designing a new product.

Attalus 04-08-2003 02:17 PM

Got the funny, MagiK, and I laughed out loud, literally. Timber, I feel the shame of that lure as deeply as the situation merits. ;) You have to admit, it was pretty good, today.

"Thus always for tyrants." Supposed to be what Charlotte Cordray said after stabbing Jean Paul Marat, I believe.
