MagiK, since you are jumping a lot, I won't hesitate to do the same and point out that:
i.e. = latin "id est" or "that is" e.g. = latin "exempli gratia" or "for example" You meant e.g. rather than i.e. :D How's that for offtopic?? ;) |
LOL, she just doesn't think that you should be able to buy AK-47 clones like the sniper used. Have to agree. That and my pro-choice opinions make Dennis think of us as liberal.

the latest update form MSNBC is that the Republicans have 51 seats, Dem's have 47, 1 indep, and 1 undecided (woohoo my first on topic response so far)
|
Have it been announced how large a percentage of voters actually showed up - I've only heard an estimate (below 40%)
Concerning the GoP victory. I look forward with interest to seeing what they'll use their majority for - or perhaps that should be trepidation ;) |
LOL, LoA, you know I am not allowed to comment on anything like that. Ar-Cunin, I just read that the rest of the world is "stunned and shocked" that the US public is so approving of the president that they persist in trying to perceive as a dimwit. I still think that one of GWB's greatest assets is that his opponents, here and abroad, seriously underestimate him. ;)

The voter turn outs that I have heard have been larger than has been normal. One of the benefits of the 2000 elections was that it illustrated that every vote could be important.
|
Ahhh well Attalus, I shall strive to get off the shit list through my good deeds :D
|
The Republicans are going to take over the world, as Sean Hannity would say.

As far as turn out goes, I think most states, but not all, had record turn outs for a mid-term election (one in which there is no Presidentail Election) with the exception of California. No one liked either candidate for Governor, so a lot of people didn't vote. My state had the largest turnout for early voting ever! Our Governor's race was pretty sad too. No good choice. But we also got to vote on whether to change the State Constitution and allow a lottery. We did, now it will be up to the Legislators to enact one. If the republicans had put up a stronger candidate they'd have probably won. The Senate Race wasn't even close, the Republican Candidate won by 11%, but the Governor's race was won by only 2%. Shows you just how weak the Republican candidate was. [ 11-06-2002, 04:23 PM: Message edited by: Sir Taliesin ] |

Personally I was hoping Davis would lose to give the dems a kick in the arse, that they so richly deserve. Oh well. [edited for clarity] [ 11-06-2002, 04:56 PM: Message edited by: Rokenn ] |
LOL, you guys have to see this. Jonah Goldberg is positively giddy. :D

He does sound happy, but what he says is correct as well. The moderates in the party will now have more power than ever, which will tend to keep things centered instead of listing to the starboard |
I wasn't surprised by the Republican victories, because the Democrats didn't have a cohesive national strategy. Al Gore (you know he has to be thinking of running in 2004) was very wise to be invisible during this whole process, even though he is the de facto leader of the Democrats. Another immediate effect of the victory: Richard Gephardt is going to resign as minority leader in the House.
Given the decision today by the Fed to lower their interest rate to 1.25% means that you'll most likely see another round of tax cuts next year, especially for businesses. Also, Bush will probably try to open up the Alaskan reserves for more exploration, too. (or did he already do that?) Unless Bush really screws up or the Democrats get it together now, Bush will earn a reelection in 2004. |
