Woohoo! Excellent, excellent, excellent. The mental image of Jim Carrey wearing armor is an absolute hoot, great work! Although I do agree about him being better suited for a Jester.

After pondering the old "Who would you cast for the BG movie?" here are a few more suggestions to tickle your brain:

Sean Connery as Keldorn
Drew Barrymore as Nalia
Laurence Fishburne (or Samuel Jackson) as Valygar
Catherine Zeta-Jones as Viconia
Danny DeVito as Jan Jansen

Rhuarch 05-29-2002 03:16 AM

Those are FANTASTIC!! I hope to see more soon! I would even go so far as to say that these are the best portraits I've seen made outside of the game itself.

Sir Exxon...your Maximus/Saravok portrait is ready It kinda was a tough nut to crack. Usually I work with much larger pictures, and are therefore able to add much more detail. Hope you're not disappointed with the result :/
That's really great. Very good work, indeed. The result isnt dissapoiting at all. Thanks dude!

Oh, and I have a bigger pic of Sarevok if you want it, Karse.
There is no need to redo the portrait at all, cause it is really great, but I have it if you want it. ;)

Your work is utterly outstanding... you may want to post your link in your sig, so we can always find it.

I hope those links to pics help you out a bit... you may have to sift a bit to get to the good ones... I would love to see Cameron Diaz up there! :D

Thanks Charean, done that url thing :)errrhh...and one Cameron Diaz coming up a.s.a.p

SixOfSpades 05-29-2002 10:34 PM

Somebody send him Yoshimo's beta-version portrait, too. One more torso to work with.

Karze, I notice you're only working with the BG2 portraits that are used by the actual NPCs. Is there a reason you're avoiding the BG1 portraits?

Memnoch 06-01-2002 07:33 AM

Karse, I might ask Ziroc if he wants to link to your portrait site. There aren't that many good ones around anymore (Kirith is one and Havak is another) since Lady Nightshade's folded. Your stuff is quite outstanding - you give your portraits a very BG-ish look.

Vlad Tepes 06-01-2002 09:51 AM

Someone said that the Portrait Portal's has the best portratits outside the game, but i must say those are the finest portraits ever, inside and outside the game!!

P.S. Ben Stiller makes an wonderfull thief.
P.P.S. Schwarzenegger and Crowe are wonderfull barbarians.

Bristowe 06-02-2002 01:02 PM

Hey K. Top quality stuff amte, really top stuff
However...do the ports of Nat, Jen & Halle have to have that nasty scar across all their faces?

Sir ReGiN 06-02-2002 01:12 PM

That's brilliant, man!
Some of the best portraits out there definetly, and funniest :D

PS. The nicholson one is my definite favourite :D

Thanks Bristowe Well, I could try to make some female portraits without scars. But, you must think of that they're constantly in battle...so...

Anyways...if you want it, I get get you the three portraits without scars...how's that. Just write to me at karstendahl@hotmail.com, and I'll send it to you

Horatio 06-02-2002 04:17 PM

Hey, can I put the Jim Carrey one in my sig, if I also include a link to your site?

The.Relic 06-02-2002 04:20 PM

Hi KS! As I stated before, very, VERY nice work. I saw your comment on the other thread, something to the effect of "this is the last time". Not to worry, if the mods thought you were plugging your site too much they'd let you know
Interesting that the point came up with the ladies and scars. I also thought about some people being a bit turned off by them which made me think about tatooing as another possibility. Something like the Minsc portrait, or Chikote (not sure of the spelling) in ST Voyager. Of course I have no idea if that is feasable with the tools you use or if it is practicable at all. Just a thought and irregardless, you are doing great work!

Darkman 06-03-2002 04:20 AM

WOW. I'm impressed. Those are the best custom made portraits I've seen since... well ever! Not sure which one is my favorite, they're all badass. Gotta love the Halle Berry one though :D She was the one good thing about the Dungeons and Dragons movie!

So how long does it take you to make one of these portraits, including time searching for the right picture down to making the final touches? Somebody should hire you Maybe we could all pitch in some money and you could make custom ports for us whenever we wanted :D

BTW it sure would be cool if someone made a portrait of Hudson Leick (Callisto)... or even Milla Jovovich or Sharon Stone... or maybe a portrait of Jet Li as Yoshimo... ;)

I don't really mind if Karse plugs his site...it's a good site, and BG2 related, so as long as we keep it to this thread I have no problem with it.

Sadly no. All the files on my page are zip-compressed :/ So, it's no use linking to anything.

I'm not familier with the Chikote in ST Voyager. But if their markings are anything like Minsch, it's certainly dooable. Whether I'm gonna do it...well, let's just say I haven't decided yet. I don't like my girls too perfect

How long does it take? Well, when I have the pictures I need, it takes a little over an hour to make a portrait [of course depending on how much I alter the armour and such. For example Halle Berry only took about half an hour, but her armour is an exact copy of Mazzy]. The problem lies in finding the celebs. Especially Male celebs. I thought about doing one with Danny Devito as a Dwarf or Halfling. But I just couldn't find a picture that was good enough :/ Anyways, will consider doing a Milla and Sharon portrait. But I have no idea who Callisto is???

Well, now I feel inadequate.

Tell you what, you keep doing quality and I'll keep doing quantity. :D

I'd like to request a portrait of Angela Bassett. Here's a pic of her from Strange Days:
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/8220/ang11.jpg

The site this pic came from also has pics of Ralph Fiennes.
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/8220/

I know from my own experiences how hard it is to find good quality pics on the web. Vidcaps just don't cut it. (If anyone knows of a good source of quality pics of Hercules or Conan, let me know.)

I am the one who has the right to be insulted here, if anyone does. I was not 'assuming' you were a racist. Maybe you should look up the word 'congenial'. I was being wry, yes, but not making assumptions. A simple 'That's not how it is' would have easily sufficed.

The reason I would be offended, if I were Halle Berry, has nothing to do with racism. It is because the woman in question was both ugly and an utterly horrible, laughable, pathetic actress.

Now, you may 'bugger off'.

Dude, I'm not worried. You can answer as many questions as you like and mention it as many times as you like. What I meant was that it would be easier for everyone to keep it to this thread, so everyone would know where to go.

No worries - like I said before, you've got the makings of a really good site - it could grow to something as big as Lady Nightshade's or Kirith and we're happy to help you reach an audience.

You should try emailing some of your stuff in to Bioware - your work is definitely game quality.

Excuse me - we don't tell people to bugger off here at Ironworks (both Wynne and Darkman). I don't really care who started this, but Wynne, you might be well advised to follow your own advice - a simple explanation to Darkman of the way he misunderstood your earlier post would have sufficed, rather than a lengthy rebuttal inviting more flames (inviting him to look up the word congeniality, etc). It's just...less "smart-assy", you know what I mean? ;)

An honest mistake is an honest mistake.

In any case, who started it is irrelevant - what IS relevant is that it won't continue. Let's have some respect for Karze (and each other) and try not to take this thread off-topic - if you and Darkman want to continue your discussion in this vein, perhaps taking it to email or PM would be the best option for both of you (and the rest of us). ;)

The.Relic 06-04-2002 05:22 PM

Hi Horatio! It worked great and they come out fine. The only problem is that if you intend for that to be your sigs pic, it is far too big for what is allowed at IW. Had a problem with huge sig pics a while back and had to incorporate rules to keep them smaller. So you might want to shrink it or subtract a couple to bring it down to one bar instead of two. Seem to have made an honest mistake Anyways...I really appreciate you comments on this thread. It's always nice to feel wellcome

I haven't considered mailing Bioware about the portraits, and I probably won't either. Maybe, I'd consider it if I didn't "steal" pictures of real life actors and just blended it together with other people's artwork I don't see the portraits I make as anything other than a whole lot of fun

Guess I have to visit Nightshade and Kirith...just to see what I have to live up to Again thanks for the help.
