Dan, I think Argus is right. When I collected for the wedding gifts I had to open a Paypal acct.. (wow...wonder if it's still active or I can remember pw's?!) anyway, one thing that I found out was if anyone pays with a credit card or your balance transfered in goes over $100 in a month you need the premier acct. I don't recall if 2% is the amount of the fees, it may be that now. I seem to recall it being 1.66 or some weird fraction and that amount is deducted from all transactions coming in...might only be those over $20, I'm not sure.. but Paypal can tell you. In fact if your acct gets more than $100 in a month or someone pays with the credit card, they'll email you about it!

The 2% or whatever it is though is only deducted from what you receive. As far as I could tell there's no upfront/fixed cost to worry about. I would suggest bumping up to premier...with 5000 members based around the world it might be the cheapest and most efficient way to manage donations.

Let's not forget to click the ads while we're here.
Every little click helps.

Istaron 12-04-2001 04:06 PM

Ziroc, how much money does it cost to run IW?
Just a bit curious

Talthyr Malkaviel 12-04-2001 04:17 PM

Do you only have to click on the ads, nothing else, cos in that case I'll just click away!!

Beaumanoir 12-04-2001 04:24 PM

That's what I meant by there being a limitation on credit card orders. If you use a bank account, it will go through. I think the card feature is $100 a month. I thought it was per transaction, but it may be overall. I do know that I can send to multiple users though and there is a limit of $5000 in that respect (over 6 months). I am not a seller, just a buyer, so don't know it completely.

Ziroc 12-04-2001 11:19 PM

Yeah, I upgraded the account, I guess I don't mind 2% or whatever.. ;)

Thanks everyone!

Ziroc 12-06-2001 02:44 AM

Looks very good, mate. I just used it and it works like a dream!

C'mon guys! Let's not let Z handle all the financial burden for us here. Chip in if you can! Let's make sure the place we love is guaranteed to stand the test of time. Every little bit counts, because little bits add up.

Sir Kenyth 12-07-2001 09:16 AM

*Bump*

Ladyzekke 12-07-2001 08:49 PM

BUMPING again. C'mon guys, do you care if Ironworks survives? Do you not care if it goes offline if things get financially burdened? Heck, if everyone just sent in five bucks or so, it would add up and ultimately help.

Please don't take this forum for granted and think it will always be there for you when you need it, cause it takes money to make a complicated excellent site such as Ironworks, and it also takes money to handle all the members posting here, and there are THOUSANDS of members now.

I know many of you don't have much money, but a few dollars surely you can afford? Please donate something guys.!

adam warlock 12-08-2001 02:38 PM

just bumping this up to support this site

Sir ReGiN 12-08-2001 03:11 PM

I'll get my pay soon, I'll see what I can scrape together
Meantime, how about making this a sticky thread?

Moiraine 12-08-2001 03:50 PM

Ziroc, I sent some money for you via Brenda aka. DragonMage (French cash that she took when she left France, she should send it to you soon).

Sir ReGiN 12-08-2001 03:55 PM

Oh and before I forget, one of my friends suggested a pop-up window at the forum.
That way everybody contribute
(wether they like it or not ;) )

Moiraine 12-10-2001 06:19 AM

ing for Ziroc

I like this idea, one single pop-up at the main forum page would be easy to click away and with all of the people here it would add up to quite a bit

Reeka 12-10-2001 05:02 PM

Everybody, if you can't contribute fine, but if you can you should. I mean we all come here and play and have fun and make friends and have a real sense of community. Sites like this are NOT free. Someone is footing the bill for what we have here and that is Z. I know that there are alot of students and teens on the board who can't contribute, but there are alot of people who are working too, who could give a little. And it really does add up. Seriously, with over 5,000 members, Z should never have to worry about having the money to keep the site going.

OK, Reeka, getting off her soap-box.

*hugs*

Just a small correction, even though we have 5000 members, I bet that at least half of them only registered to get 2 or 3 questions answered, left, and never returned, so we do in fact have a lot less members.

You're very welcome, Ziroc. I'm sorry I couldn't send you the money I had promised last July - I have an online French bank, ya see, so neither a transfer nor a check nor getting cash were possible - or waaay too expensive. :( I want you to get the money, not our banks ! Thus when Brenda came, I grabbed the occasion to make it up with you.

This Board has been a very very important part of my life for the past year. There's no way I can send you enough money to reflect how great this Board is to me.
