As soon as someone has a team that is good enough, bring it on. Think about it. We send out kids from the minors and college, and they still win medals in baseball. If we sent our Best, it would be just like Basketball. Not fair. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

For those that do not follow cricket but are interested in following this thread click on the link below for a very,very,very,confusing....errr detailed description of the laws/terms of cricket. Enjoy http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

Also, I think as an American it is hard for us to follow Cricket b/c it is actually more than a)a bunch of big dumb guys trying to tackle each other...b)a bunch of big dumb guys trying to hit/catch/throw something....or c)a bunch of big dumb guys trying to get a ball through a hoop.....I'm sorry, just very fed up with "American" sports

Baseball is wonderful if your team is super rich like the yankees and braves and can buy your team the championship every year. I really enjoy the game but there has to be some equality somewhere. They need to impliment the salary cap!

As far as the baseball vs cricket thing, I've been to baseball series out here in the states, and test matches back home in England. I think essentially that its the same game for the spectator:

1) Turn up with 20+ friends
2) Proceed to sit down and eat crap food
3) Break out the beer
4) Enjoy a day in the sun with your friends and getting utterly wasted
5) Occasionally something in the field will happen to give you a chance to jump up and down screaming drunkenly and stretching your legs
6) It doesn't matter too much at the end of the day who wins..

Yup, totally agree with you. These hot shots are getting WAAAAY too much $$$ and many are turning into prima donas who know they can demand things that others can't get. Whatever happened to the TEAM in team sports? But hey, like you said, NY'er and I gotta route for my homies, bossman! Like the Red Sox too, but when's the last time they made a WS? I don't keep up with the stats/you know, NUMBERS...pesky things...but I don't think any one player should be so overpriced as to make the rest of the team look like chopped liver. You can't win a ball game with one high-salaried hotshot!

Nice 11 you have there memnoch!
I agree though, Langer can be a bit of a dead weight in the aussie squad sometimes... but he has his moments...
In the last test, Poning and Gilchrist both got a pair of ducks (I think)...
so they are lacking just a bit... but then you look at Pontings effort in the last first-class match against Mumbai or something... he scored 102 in the first innings, then 102 NO in the second... Gilly in the first test was just magik, so you know...

BTW, what is wrong with victorian "Sheffield Sheild" team?

Morodin, thanks for the link to the laws of Cricket, I thought this was interesting:

THE PREAMBLE, THE SPIRIT OF CRICKET

'Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.'

I'm afraid a few teams have forgotten this recently and Cricket seems to be going down the road of most other professional sports.

Nah, Best sport to watch is soccer or more presice Soccer fights!!!! It's always the Brits that seem to start it!

For Rugby is the ultimate blood sport!! I saw guy nearly rip a other neck just to get the dammed ball. The Ref din't even give him a penalty!!!

Donut 03-17-2001 12:06 AM

Strhad - Paris St Germain v Galatassary (Turkey) on wednesday night, 58 fans injured in fighting (57 of them French), pitch invaded by Turkish supporters and the game held up for 25 minutes, not a Brit in sight!

It's understandable that the rest of the world has this misconception, if trouble doesn't involve English supporters (the Scots and Welsh might be upset if you say Brits) then it isn't news. Unfortunately our supporters got a reputation (which was deserved at the time) for causing trouble in the 70's and 80's and it's difficult to lose it. I speak from experience having travelled in Europe to watch my team play on many occasions.

Just another couple of examples. Galatassary v Leeds - two English supporters murdered and when Liverpool played in Italy this year nine English supporters stabbed.

Also our batsmen can hit the ball out of the park two or three time in a row. Their batters have a hit and then they're home. Brrrring.
Our batsmen can be batting all day. (As bloody Laxman proved.)
Also our bowlers use the subtleties of ground spin and deviation AS WELL as using the air like pitchers.
Plus, as you stated Memnoch the drama is indeed played out over 5 days. Think of the analysis and media articles (read dollars) one match brings in.

The best thing is you can walk away from the cricket for an hour and not really miss anything. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif (j/k)
