Bozos of Bones 03-06-2004 02:38 PM

K
This is a rather old game(Duke Nukem 3D time).
Three words: chicken, dynamite and crossbow.

Dreamer128 03-07-2004 10:15 AM

Redneck Rampage?

Betelgeuse 03-07-2004 11:01 AM

sounds about right. first thing that sprung to mind was heretic but that doesn't have dynamite.

Bozos of Bones 03-07-2004 12:04 PM

Yup, it's the Rampage.
Go Dreamer128.

Dreamer128 03-07-2004 05:00 PM

Okay then. An easy question. In Starlancer, a SF game from Digital Anvil, the Western Alliance (the good) are at war with the Eastern Coalition (the bad). At the start of the game, the Easter Coalition manages to take out most of the Alliance fleets in a surprise attack. The Question; who ends up winning the war, and what happens next. For bonus points; what end of the conflict did the designers originally have in mind.

Link 03-08-2004 04:27 AM

Well.. for good times sake I vote for the Western Alliance winning, but the leaders of the Eastern Coalition escaping.

And I think the designers originally wanted both organisations destroying each other.

I haven't played the game, so sue me if I'm wrong ;)

*Hint* heard of Freelancer? ;)

I wanted to take a swing at the answer but I can't think of any game to test you all.

RoSs_bg2_rox 03-08-2004 12:31 PM

hey, sorry guys, I was really busy before, never had a chance to post, or see it was my turn even! Cheers.

Oh and Dreamer, I have no clue!

Link 03-08-2004 04:50 PM

As I said, Paladin: I haven't got a clue, so I was walking in the dark wearing shades so to say.

Paladin2000 03-08-2004 10:23 PM

Okay, I will try out this one. If I am correct, I will think of something up...

According to the opening cinematic in Freelancer The Eastern Coalition evetually won and the Western Alliance flee to the distant Sirius system.

I think the designers original intention was for the two factions to join forces together to fight the Nomads, an alien race that would eventually conquer our galaxy. This is from hint somewhere (can't remember where) that the Nomads arrived and defeated the Coalition after the war.

Dreamer128 03-10-2004 02:25 PM

I'm impressed Paladin. You're next.

Paladin2000 03-10-2004 04:11 PM

Okay, here is an easy one:

Name any four of your wingmen in Wing Commander I by their callsign.

Dreamer128 03-10-2004 04:31 PM

Hm.. hard one. I played II to V, but never I ;)
I'll take a wild guess though; Ice?

Paladin2000 03-10-2004 05:10 PM

Nope. And remember, I need four names. ;)

Nightowl2 03-10-2004 08:30 PM

Iceman, Angel, Maniac, and Paladin.

<center>Nightowl2</center>

Paladin2000 03-10-2004 10:04 PM

These are the names:

1. Angel
2. Bossman
3. Doomsday (SO2)
4. Hunter
5. Iceman
6. Jazz (SO2)
7. Knight
8. Maniac
9. Paladin
10. Spirit

Any four will do.

<font color=white>
Nightowl2, you got it correctly. You are next.

Maniac? The same Todd Marshall you meet in WC3? ;)

Yep. He appears in all the series. Some jokers are just too hard to kill.

Dreamer128 03-11-2004 02:27 PM

Heh.. Maniac is one of my favorite characters. He has some great lines :D

(Maniac to Hawk - after a rude awakening)
"My own squad.. after all those years. I can't believe it."
"So, you want to be in command?"
"Yeah!"
"You want to be in control?"
"Yeah!"
"You want to be the guy they string up when your squad blows the pooch on a mission?"
"Yeah! - hey, wait a second.. "

(Maniac in Wing Commander 4)
"You've messed with the best -- now die like the rest!"

Paladin2000 03-11-2004 02:36 PM

Maniac is funny in later series, but he is a huge pain in the butt in WC I and WC II. In fact in WC I, I usually send him back to base while I battle alone because he just gets in the way.

His flying skill is improved in WC II but his lines aren't too funny and his cartoon looked silly.

I like the part where Blair play him like a fool in the opening FMV in WC4.
Blair said to Maniac, "If I tell you, I will have to kill you" and pats him in the back. Maniac stood there stunned and speechless.

Also, the ending FMV in WC4. As blair flew off in the space, Maniac was trying to strike a conversation with Paladin. Paladin said, "Maniac... just shut up."

Dreamer128 03-11-2004 05:10 PM

Hm.. yes, that really was hillarious.

"Uhm.. Senator, about that promotion.."
"Maniac.. shut up."

Also, at some point in WCIV Maniac and Blair are discussing their defection. At the end of the conversation, Blair mentiones that Marshals promotion was finally coming through. That was funny as hell.

And of course, after Blair nearly gets killed by Seether;
"I would have backed you up, of course, if he tried anything."

(Slipping in here with a question before this turns into the WC Old-Timer's Club or something ;) )

Microprose - remember them? I hope so - was best known for making first-class strategy games. However, once they did dabble in another genre and produced an RPG. What was it?

LOL... WC old timer's club. I like that. :D :D :D

Was it "Die By The Sword"? No wait... I remember! It is "Darklands".

Good for you, Paladin; Darklands it is, and your turn now.

Paladin2000 03-12-2004 05:20 AM

Okay, this is about an old DOS combat flight simulation:

In the 90's Lucasarts released a classic WW II combat flight simulations. Subsequently four additional expansion packs are released, each providing an additional fighters. Name three of the fighters.

<font color=white>
I will be away for a few days. I will post the answer when I am back.

Jaradu 03-12-2004 11:39 AM

Hmmm.. Is it the Secret Weapons of the Lutwaffe Series? If so, the fighters are Volksjager, Pfiel, Shooting Star, Lightning. I do not remember which three are from the expansions and which is the original though - does that matter?

Paladin2000 03-12-2004 12:28 PM

Jeez, I didn't expect someone to post the answer so quickly.

The original playable models are:
- P51D/51B Mustang
- P47B Thunderbolt
- B17 Flying Fortress (Bomber)
- BF 109
- FW 190
- Me 262 (Jet)
- Go 229 (Jet)

The expansion pack fighters are:
- He-162 Volksjaeger (Jet)
- Do 335 Pfeil
- P-80 Shooting Star (Jet)
- P-38 Lightning

<font color=white>
You are right Jaradu, you are next

lol sorry Paladin - I'm just a fan of the early lucasarts games.

Before I post a question, does it have to be PC?

LOL, yet another SWOTL fan. :D

Any game will do. I am sure someone here plays a lot of console games too. But not me.... :(

Jaradu 03-13-2004 06:48 AM

Ok thanks paladin!

Keep in mind that this is my first question, so I'm not yet good at judging what is hard and what is easy. Here goes:

In 'Lord of the Rings: Return of the King', who are the three unlockable characters?

Link 03-13-2004 04:31 PM

Merry, Pippin and Faramir. Not the ones you'd expect ;)

Jaradu 03-13-2004 05:32 PM

LOL Correct. GO LINK!

Link 03-14-2004 04:58 PM

Wow! First time I've guessed right in this game! Woohoo!!

Now for my question (kind of a hard one, but maybe you guys will get it!)

Even though there are guards in this district, you will never be arrested for sleeping on the streets in Athkatla. What game, and more important, what district am I talking about?

Paladin2000 03-15-2004 12:29 AM

I cheated and found the answer, but I am not going to participate this one.

Betelgeuse 03-15-2004 03:24 AM

ah, google is your friend. there's even a site "what is athkatla?"
i too will leave this to those who know or who don't care about cheating... ahem, researching.
it is something i've been meaning to play for a while though

Dreamer128 03-15-2004 03:33 AM

The game is Baldurs Gate II. The only district I could sleep in without getting arrested (trust me - I've tried them all) was the Graveyard District. I'm unsure if there are any Guards there though. In case you are refering to The Docks - you actually do get arrested there. It's the only thing that can lure the guards from their hiding places.

Link 03-15-2004 07:46 AM

The game is correct, the district, however is not. There are no guards in the Graveyard District, and you will indeed get arrested in the Docks District, as you yourself implied.

Dreamer128 03-15-2004 09:41 AM

Well, the only other district I can think off are the City Gates. Which isn't really a district to begin with. Besides that, I've been arrested in The Slums, The Temple and The Government districts (and Waukeens promenade, of course).

Link 03-15-2004 12:12 PM

I never said that your opinion counted, Dreamer, but the City Gates IS a district in Athkatla, technically speaking in each case (and according to me as well). But you're correct.

Dreamer128 03-15-2004 12:16 PM

Glad I got that one right. I've play Baldurs Gate II more often then any other game, so it would have been really humiliating if I failed to get that one right ;)
