Keep us Posted, Yorick...or should I say Clive James??

Stealth Bomber 02-06-2001 06:30 AM

Moiraine I was trying to translate 'frog's legs', but it is a long time since my school days. I always try all the local foods whenever I visit a foreign country as it is a good way of learning and experiencing their culture. I am sorry to say, Melusine, that I thought Dutch cuisine was boring and I much prefer French cheeses to Dutch, which are very rubbery and make excellent bouncy balls! Please don't hate me for it! However, I really enjoyed the floating restaurant in Amsterdam and most people visit Holland for it's other consumables!

I missed what your band or music is called, Yorick, so please can someone point me the right way or send an mp3 to mm666@hotmail.com. Thanks.

Moiraine 02-06-2001 06:52 AM

If you want me to send you some MP3 of Yorick's music,
I may be able to do that, but I have this little problem :
I can't send, either from home of from work, mails bigger than 4 megas,
so I can't send you most of Yorick's songs, unless I find a tool allowing to split MP3s.
(Zipping them is not useful, as MP3 is already a compressed format).
I downloaded one (MP3 TrackMaker), but it can't seem to have it work properly.
Anybody able to help me, please ?

Moiraine 02-06-2001 10:25 AM

OK, I made some progress since this morning : I downloaded the latest version of MP3 TrackMaker, and it works fine.
Now, anybody knows of a tool allowing to do the reverse work, e.g. to concatene small MP3s into a bigger one ?

WOLFGIR 02-06-2001 10:48 AM

Hi Yorick, donīt suppose your heading this way in the world (gothenburg Sweden) but if you do or anyone else send me a mail and we can have a drink, I to prefer to use body language and eyecontact to a bluescreen and my typing isnīt that good either at times...

Hellfire 02-06-2001 10:55 AM

Yorick, this is got to be coolest experience to go through, when i joined the army i thought i would travel but alas the powers that be haven't seen to that yet[my luck it would be a war]be if you haven't guessed i used to be fighter thief[got bored with that] maybe next time your wanderlust will bring you to the states?good health and good travel

Moridin 02-06-2001 11:12 AM

Yorick,

Good luck and have a great trip! Do you know where you are going in Europe yet, or are you just "winging" it?

Moiraine,

Have you considered putting the files on Napster. I know this would require you to be logged on so we could download them, but once a couple of us have them they would be more accessable. If you do consider this and have already or will put them on napster, post your user name so we can search for that (just a thought!)

Moiraine 02-06-2001 11:22 AM

Moridin,

I will NOT post Yorick's songs on Napster without his authorization. There had been long ago a thread about Napster, and the discussion had turned quite hot.
Don't worry, I'll finally manage. I am a VERY stubborn person !

Moridin 02-06-2001 11:54 AM

Sorry Moiraine (and Yorick),
I missed the whole Napster discussion, but you are right, Yorick should give the permission to post or not post on Napster!
I was only suggesting that since he has given permission to 'email' his songs it may be easier the Napster way. Sorry I will leave this topic alone now

Yorick,
Do you have any CD's available?

Moiraine 02-06-2001 01:25 PM

I meant, I know I can pick your mail addresses from your profiles, but as I can't send Yorick songs to too many of you, please ask.

Draconia, you are next on my list, tomorrow, as soon as Stealth Bomber tells me that he could get and put back in one piece the song I sent him.

draconia 02-06-2001 01:50 PM

Thank you soooo much Moiraine. I hope it gets to Stealth Bomber ok.

Moiraine 02-06-2001 03:18 PM

You are welcome, Draconia !

Stealth Bomber 02-06-2001 04:56 PM

Moiraine I tried to download it but it hanged at 319k and then timed out. I will try again last thing to-night when hopefully it will be quicker. I will let you know in the morning how it went, Thanks for all your hard work.

Stealth Bomber 02-06-2001 05:42 PM

Hooray, I got part of it! Thanks Moiraine I received the last part of the track but there is no sign of the first part. Could you re-send it? What I have so far is superb. I particularly like the bluesy sax. Oh I just thought. Hotmail only allows a maximum of 1 Mb downloads. Was the other part larger? I will check your answer tomorrow.

Yorick 02-06-2001 10:34 PM

The thing about Australia is that you can drive for days and days and still be in the same country. Same currency same customs same language, (just differing levels of intelligence - like the lower Melbournite intellect )
Thus it never ceases to amaze me when after a short drive another nation emerges. Going over to Johor was just that. Weird. Big customs blocks, money changed, people different, different architecture, different 'vibe' totally despite 200 metres or so seperating the two.

The X, are you here in the Lion City? Where abouts? I'm staying in Siglap. Yes I didn't see any tigers (just like a visitor to Sydney won't see a Kangaroo hopping down George St.) but I did see some scenery, some jungle/forest/foliage whatever you want to call it. Stunning. Hired a car and drove up around the Woodlands resovoir/reserve, down to Marina bay etc.

I had a gig by the river last night, and scored another one tonight. Including a voice over session today that's four, and I've only been here a week!

Guys I think I'm cool my stuff on Napster (twitches uncomfortably). Let's give it a try eh?

A big thankyou to Charlie, Hellfire-thief, Bilqis, Lord of Alcohol (got it bro), Armisael, Draconia, Ramon, Stealth-Yinn, Bahamut, Zor, Robert, Cloudbringer, Ladyzekke, Moridin, Wolgir, the aforementioned X, Memnoch and of course Moiraine, for the cheerios and well wishes. It means a lot to me. Makes me feel very... (I'm lost for words) ...very and

Ooh, short of time, gotta go
Bye for now

Cloudbringer 02-06-2001 10:43 PM

Awww, Yorick, now I feel all warm and fuzzy . I wish I could do what you're doing. I LOVE new places. Hate the getting there (plane train whatever) but love being there!

I would love to hear some of your music- don't approve of napster at all, so sorry, I won't be getting it there. Just can't bring self to do it. Feel like I'm sanctioning it if I dl anything at all. Maybe we can find another way sometime? After you return from walkabout?

Ciao, and congrats on the work! Quite a bit and so soon, too!

draconia 02-07-2001 12:02 AM

Yorick, I just listened to your song Groove Sound. I like it!!! You have a great voice. I hope you are still having fun on your "walkabout" Good luck with everything. I hope to hear more of your music. I really like it.

Bahamut 02-07-2001 12:12 AM

Napster is like cool... What I think of it is that it tests your loyalty toward some guy/girl/band. And as for Zor, SHUT UP ABOUT OUR BEST KEPT SECRETS!!! hehe you're going to get us caught! My Celfone is SMART with number 9094155... urz?

And, whatever you like, greenhills has it... porn, games, whatever. But I go for original stuff... well if I like it that much... MY BG2 IS ORIGINAL!!!!!

The X 02-07-2001 03:24 AM

Greetings Yorick.
I'm living in Hougang Avenue 1 but spends most of my time in the office. Maybe we can meet for coffee perhaps...
My office is in Singapore Post Centre, its near the Paya Lebar MRT Station. If you happen to take the train and pass by Paya Lebar Station, you would see a bloody big of a building which is where my office is situated at.Its on the 14th storey so its sorta give me a great view of the surroundings.

I used to have a few gigs during my teens and used to play around the polytechnics and The Substation. Those were the days...
So do inform me if you are keen on the coffee or we could even have lunch. I might even introduce you to some of the chicks from my office!!( Just kiddin')

Moiraine 02-07-2001 05:06 AM

Stealth Bomber,

I just sent you Yorick's song split in 7 parts. Please tell me if all is OK, or if you encounter any problem (t'is my job, solving computer-related problems ...)

Memnoch 02-07-2001 05:18 AM

The merry bard goes on his way...

Why does something tell me that at the end of this all we will know Yorick inside out?

Moiraine 02-07-2001 05:23 AM

You will soon know ME inside out very soon also ...

Stealth Bomber 02-07-2001 07:57 AM

In case you missed the E-mail Moiraine, thanks again. Looking forward to get to know you inside out too

Hellfire 02-07-2001 09:26 AM

Zoratorak 02-07-2001 04:42 PM

yo Bahamut!!
i just got back here... (kinda busy)... im smart too... and ill not say anything till Yorick comes along...

er... just wonderin.. 0918- or 0919-

Yorick 02-07-2001 09:11 PM

X, I missed you. My plane leaves in about an hour (posting from the airport). I'm coming back this way so lets hook up then. (Must remember Paya Lebar MRT Post office.) I'd definitely be keen on coffee or lunch. A pity I only saw your message late yesterday on my way to the live gig.

The gigs went ok. I'm kind of sad to go really. The existing friendships have only got stronger, and I made heaps of new ones. I feel like I could spend a lot more time here.

I will say this: Singapore should be called Singarich or Singagreat. The hot humid air is great for the vocal chords. Each time I'd go to do a difficult thing it'd be "ooh... that was easy, what if I try this...ooh... that worked as well!" Especially since last year a few viruses that went around Sydney HAMMERED the chords and the opposite would occur (Standard things were difficult) I would love to do some serious recording here. It was very very very very enjoyable to sing here.

Now is the hard bit. A fourteen hour flight. Hope I sleep.

Glad some of you guys are enjoying the music (Stealth, Draconia). That's what it's there for. Thanks so much Moiraine and now Moridin for passing it on

Now Zor... what were you saying?

Yorick 02-07-2001 09:13 PM

P.S. I hope your meeting goes well Zor and Bahumut. Let us know how it goes!!

Zoratorak 02-08-2001 02:47 AM

Yorick!!! i meant on my post that we, the filipinos, will not give out our best kept secrest untill you come along here in the phillipines... we will be waiting for you here... anyway... Bahamut and I will meet (one of these days, im kinda busy) ...

how is your trip going?? fun?? exciting?? adventurous?? if your ever passing by here or something i, i like a souverner , nothing much it is but a picture of all of you and the gang together in europe.. i wanna see that... ... well if your passing by there... its nice for this and that and a bunch of this and a couple of that...

Moiraine 02-08-2001 02:41 PM

Just a quick hello to our traveller,

and if anybody wants Yorick's songs, please ask in the 'Yorick's Songs' thread.

Yorick, I won't put them on Napster, I send them by mail, from work, one per day, it's OK.

Enjoy England !

Xanthul 02-08-2001 05:21 PM

Hey yorick !! the music is great !! i hope you wont get mad at me, but (at least in the song i have, groove sound) you sound like Prince !!

BTW, i still hadnt posted here, so good luck in your journeys and have fun !!!

Hellfire 02-09-2001 12:12 AM

gee Yorick i didn't know you was a Kender,so how ya doin buddy

Yorick 02-09-2001 06:01 AM

Like prince eh Ertai? Well that's certainly a new one, no I won't get mad - the guy is a genius. As I said I've never had that comparison. When I was younger I was continually likened to either a Bono/Michael Hutchence or even a Tears for Tears influenced vocalist. Glad to know I'm getting some black music in my system. I've been listening to Stevie Wonder lately and various other vox.

The flight was fairly interesting actually. Only about sixty of us were on the flight so it was like a row each. A passenger was going to die so the plane diverted to Chennai (Madras) to get him to hospital. Glad to know they do that sort of thing as it must have cost the airline heaps (they had to ditch fuel to reach the reqrd weight and then refuel)

Thus I got to see India from the air and also Iran as the sky was very clear. Irans mountainous areas were fascinating. Very barren, some snow, much dry area. Some of it reminiscant of parts of Oz from the air (though not as red).

I'm staying with a friend I made on the plane! A fellow Aussie who has most generously put me up while I come to terms with the terrible value of the Aussie dollar against the pound. Oh well. Very happy am I
Got to nick off for now, back soon

Radical X 02-09-2001 06:34 AM

You can come see me in the south of England if you want mate. It's pretty cool here, plenty of ladies and bars along with various other activities. Although I'm new to BG2, so you won't know me much yet, I'm pretty sound, and good fun. Come stay if ya like!

Donut (Son of Donut) 02-09-2001 07:23 AM

Hi Yorick - welcome to London. You haven't said which area you are staying in, please tell me it's not Earls Court. You can't swing a cat down there without hitting an aussie or an enzedder.

As Charlie says, the pub I invited you to is in North London rather than 'up North'. You can see it here: http://www.wheatsheaf.freeserve.co.uk You're welcome anytime. I can't offer anything other than alcohol and conversation. I'm running a charity quiz night next monday or alternatively there is a 'plugged/unplugged' night on the third tuesday of every month - see http://www.redroad.co.uk/acoustic/wheatsheaf People bring their instruments & perform. It used to be called acoustic night but they have changed the name to accomodate electric guitars and violins etc. I have to say that I've always found it a bit 'twee' apart for the girl on the electric violin - very Vanessa Mae.

Yorick 02-09-2001 11:08 AM

I'm staying in Maida Vale at the moment. I'll come up to the pub in the next day or so, are you there all the time or something?

If there's a spare guitar lying around I'd gladly participate in an unplugged evening.

I went for a walk around St James Park today, checked out Buckingham Palace etc. It's interesting finding the origin of certain concepts that Australian buildings/parks have here. I mean they're obviously different, but the influence is very obvious.

Donut (Son of Donut) 02-09-2001 11:51 AM

Some people tell me that I spend my whole life there but I don't think so. I spend about 25% of my spare time in the pub and 25% on the computer - the rest of the time is just wasted! .

I have to work during the day but I'm usually there between 5.30 and 8.30 Monday to Friday and at odd times at the weekend. Just let me know when you're coming and I'll make sure I'm there. You can't miss me - I'm the biggest one in the bar .

Yorick 02-09-2001 01:39 PM

Hey Hellfire,
Got your message on the other thread, thanks mate. Glad to know I've got witnesses (LOL).
What's a Kender? You mean like the humanoids in one of the AD&D worlds???!!!

London is quite chaotic, so much bigger than Sydney. I was here seven years ago but didn't spend long here. Today in between trying to line some stuff up by phone/email I walked and walked and saw a lot of the city centre.
Quite intoxicating and, after coming from 40% days VERY VERY COLD!!! No wonder you guys moan about us Aussies when we complain about the heat

Actually I don't mind the cold. Kind of dramatic. I think I'm going to like this part of the world....

The double decker buses that people jump off while moving are kind of funky.

Just met some Aussies,
Back soon

Yorick 02-09-2001 03:10 PM

Man, that was great. Just had some coffee and good conversation with two guys from Melbourne. Compared notes, philosophies and observations. Very cool. One had just spent two months in Deutschland.

London at night! What a vibe! The teeming mass of humanity, the sense of history, the feeling of action, the feeling that here has a gravity around which so much swings - is all quite amazing. Passed Soho and Covent Garden earlier. Shows galore, entertainment galore. People everywhere. The public transport is a confusing mass of spaghetti-like twists and turns that link anywhere to everywhere.

My Melbournite friends bemoaned the coffee here though. My cappucino was ok. nice and strong but they complained they hadn't had a good latte since they arrived. Oh well.

A bientot.

Stealth Bomber 02-09-2001 06:11 PM

Yorick, I can't make London as I am working this weekend. Will you be coming up North to Dundee, Scotland? I am off next week from Tuesday and I could put you up if you wanted. Let us know.

Zoratorak 02-10-2001 04:05 AM

dont forget the pictures... i really want the pictures
