If you align with both before you complete too many missions simply visit He-Li in Arnika and talk to her. She'll mention that she's heard information that you are working with the T'rang & the Umpani. Pay her off and your secret will be safe.

Yeah, I know that, but that has nothing to do with Kunar.

Nightwing 07-26-2004 08:51 AM

Micha,go to martens' bluff first, there are a few spell books you want. get the quest from the T-Rang. Have you visited Crock yet in the swamp?

Use the teleporter in lower Martens' Bluff to teleport to the northern Wilderness just outside the Umpani Base. Before you go find the T-Rang arm to bring with you. Look around the catapult to get in to Martens' Bluff.

What can I do about all these insects and mosquitos and ants swarms? Gradually I become bored. I almost can't make any progress in getting my way. Thät is the annoying thing with all magic parties. You always have to command each of your loosers what to spell next. Much mouse clicking work.

O dear, I guess there isn't much I can co about it, can't I?

Yes I need teleportation. Only have one Set Portal spell.

I have read somewhere here that the enemies will get even stronger once you work your way to a given area again, won't they?

Nightwing 07-26-2004 02:26 PM

If you have Chameleon cast it at full strength and you can walk right by usually, you can always run by them. It is possible to run through the swamp without a battle. It's hard but can be done. Most of the insects are weak to hypnotic lure, if you have anyone to cast it it's a good idea. By the time you come back they won't be a problem for you. Lvl. 13 and up your party should be back on top. I know what you mean when you say too many mouse clicks. I abandond my magic party just for that reason. Practice running past the insects and it should go well.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 07-26-2004 07:17 PM

The "Shift M" command is nice. I use it when in a corner and cast.. whatever. Once that's drained I select something else. It does help a lot.

The enemies will only get stronger as you get stronger. It is a b*tch to play the game like that earlier on, when you lack some very useful spells, and no teleporation.

Micha369 07-27-2004 12:25 PM

What are the best spells in your opinion for a mostly magic party (except one fighter)?

Nightwing 07-27-2004 01:34 PM

Toxic cloud is a must. Summon Elemental, Quicksand, Asphixiation, death wish, will all do you well in the end game. Guardian Angel, rest all and heal all are very important also. You must have protection spells up also at thier highest level like Magic Screen, Missle Shield, Armor plate and Element Shield. Those are the ones I use most often and they make things much easier.

SecretMaster 07-27-2004 02:11 PM

Death Cloud is up there also. But the problem with those spells is that while most of em deal instant deaths, they don't work that well on higher enemies. Get other spells such as Prismic Chaos and Mind Flay if you play with Psionics. Nuclear Blast you will always find handy, Tsunami also.

But like Nightwing said, get Toxic Cloud ASAP. On higher levels and on bigger groups, you can seriously dice em up because they are all nauseuated, poisoned, and unconscious. The gift that keeps on giving.

They make things easier but they're not essential. My 3 Sams were limited with those spells but did fine.
Don't let those spells deter you from trying new parties that don't have those spells.

Scatter 07-27-2004 10:25 PM

Yah, no spell is necessary. I've finished with no magic types at all, just 2 Fighters and a Rogue.

Micha369 07-31-2004 03:45 AM

Hello folks,

I have some trouble fulfilling the rapax assssin quest given to me by the t'rang boss.

I had killed a rapax with the doll and the perfume in the elevator room. By using the press.

But it was later when I got the quest. I even have visited Crock a 2nd time to buy that perfume again.

Now trying to put it on the doll it says: "on second thought you realise that you might need it later" or so.

Is there an other possibility to fulfill the quest or an other item to put the perume on?

Micha

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 07-31-2004 05:55 AM

Micha, if you killed the Rapax, just give Z'Ant the Rapax head, that's it. It would have been dropped when you Squished the Rapax Assassin.

Micha369 08-01-2004 06:48 AM

T'Rang or Umpani?

What is the best strategy to gain the most Exp points and the most quests?

I'm gradually coming to the point where to decide what to do with the two groups of species:

Should I destroy the Umpani, the T'Rang, both or neither? What can you suggest?

@ Elmwood: yes, thanks, I haven't even noticed this nasty thing of a head in my luggage, although it should already have started to smell by the time I had spent (*grinning)

Thanks!

Micha

Micha369 08-01-2004 08:49 AM

Hello folks,

What device does the Z'Ant (T'Rang) want me to bring from the Mook? There is only one Sphere the Mook boss let me have a look at. But if I take this thing, they get hostile and I'm dead.

How can I get this device?

Besides, what should I do with the faked Astral Dominae?

Well, you answered your question w/o knowing. Just take the real thing and put it in your inventory, then immediatly put the fake there. They'll be fooled and won't attack. Take the real one and give it to Z'Ant.

Wow! I see! I must say, I'm astonished!

Many thanks!

Wolfie, where you been?

Micha369 08-03-2004 04:05 PM

Hi folks,

@ Wolfie: What do you mean? Yes, this Wiz 8 is a pretty good game! I like it.

It's a little lacking of quests and the magic dominated parties have to struggle quite much, but it's interesting. What a pitty, this sirtech Ltd. is gone!

My next question:

How can I use the Stealth capability of my Android?
I always put points on Stealth, but haven't figured out yet how to profit from it.

Nightwing 08-03-2004 04:31 PM

Stealth is an automatic thing. Every 10 points give you 1 point of AC.

Sirtech has put out some fantastic games. If you want a turn base strategy game they make "Jagged Alliance" a squad based roll play mercenary game.
It has good replay ability also.

Scatter 08-03-2004 04:44 PM

Stealth has more effects than just AC. If your stealth is high enough, nobody will even aim at you very often. Thus, if the entire party has max stealth, enemies will very often sit on defendin, because they can't see you to swing at.
Plus the higher your stealth, the easier it becomes to sneak past potential combats.

To practise stealth, just stand on defend at the edge of thrown range of some Millipedes or Seekers for a while. I often combine this with magic or reflextion practise (it'll also boost Iron Skin if you get hit sometimes), and sometimes i leave the game running for a few hours and come back to find them in the 90's. It takes a few days of game time, depending on how many shots per round are missing you. (9 Millipedes is my fave, and you can even Super them if you want them to shoot more often...)

Yup, it's a tragedy with all the garbage out there, that a company with such a good game would go under. I can't believe nobody has picked these guys up to do something else.

Micha369 08-04-2004 12:37 AM

I've never done this automatic practise thing.
But it seems promising!

Only my Android has Stealth attribute.
Is this enough to do the auto practise?
Has one Stealth an effect on the whole party?

How can I enhance my reflection? I'm in need of both capabilities!
I'm on Bayjing island and it is pretty bothering and boring fighting the beasts and crabs all day and not getting ahead.

Scatter 08-04-2004 03:34 AM

Reflextion practises as Stealth, even at the same time. Only one stealthy character will mean just that one will get hit less, and swung at less. If anyone in the party has no stealth at all, sneaking won't be any better with just one stealthy character.

You say that as if that's a bad thing? It's the challenge, the having to devise strategies as you go, that add so much to the enjoyment!!

Just to be technically correct, STC are not gone, they are still an operating entity (business term), they just no longer are developing new titles. It's an important destiction, as it means the Wizardry IP is still owned, and is a sale-able product. The trick is, of course, is there enough cost-benefit to return a healthy ROI on developing / publishing further Wizardry titles in the cold light of day (ie, not what us empassioned fans might want, but can enough "units" be sold to make a profit).

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 08-04-2004 05:24 AM

It's great to see both of you posting, Wolfie and Scatter. I guess eventually we all move on to other things. I've only been back a little over a month myself and I see mostly "Elite Waterdeep Guards". That means it's mostly new people posting, which is pretty interesting considering how old the game is now (3 years?). Where are people still finding this game, bargain bins? Used?

Micha369, for what it's worth, get the Wiz8 editor and bump up your stealth up that way. There's no point letting the game run for hours to achieve the same end, it's a waist of good energy.. and game time! I don't know the link, but someone does (help) or do a search.

Micha369 08-05-2004 12:58 AM

@ Variol (Farseer) Elmwood:

Many thanks für your suggestion. I knew about the editor. I wanted to stay clean this time though (in the end it is cheating, isn't it).

However, I have set Stealth to 80 for all embers.
It seems quite easier to walt through the wiz8 world.

SecretMaster 08-05-2004 02:20 AM

Yes, stealth makes you harder to see. It is like chameleon without the waste of mana. Beautiful little thing that. And the AC bonus is always a bonus.

I really don't think it's cheating any more than standing there and defending for hours on end.

Yep, I only got the game a few months ago after seeing it going cheap. I wasn't really interested in it when it first came out because I'd played a couple of the older ones and couldn't get into them, I found them frustrating because I'd miss some item I needed somewhere and get stuck and lost. Picked this one up expecting a few hours entertainmen but I found it much better than the previous ones. Did get stuck in a few places but just used guides to help me out.

Enjoyed it so much I'm playing through it again and I never usually play a game again after I've finished it.

Gadgeteer Tom 08-05-2004 04:31 PM

I started with whatever the REAL early version was (Ran on DOS), later got Bane, but also got stuck because I couldn't figure out what to do and how to do it.
Kid next door hacked into the Attributes to make insane uber-characters, which were fun for a bit - then it was cool to watch the game 'bite back' with matching opponents (I'm talking about level 90+ characters with every spell, etc.).
Wiz 8 was OK, but when I first got it (when it first came out) I again couldn't get everything together to ascend (gotta take out tower, black ship, get helm of serenity FIRST, T'Rang quest is most helpful to get into Mook outpost, Rapax Rift just blew me away, so did North East Wilderness - that temple full of baddies is still tough, the game has so many layers ...).
Fortunately, that kid next door did figure out the quest, and helped me with spoilers...After three years I finally ascended this spring !!
Now it's a matter of how well can I develop my characters - my latest effort is in focusing on specific attributes till they're maxed (I used to add points 'evenly') and it does seem to increase development of what I care most about (like music and pickpocket for Bard, Engineering for Gadgeteer, Magic for Madge [Powercast is over 50, but sling/throwing is still 0 - and I don't care]).
The game has a sense of humor coded into it - and some really interesting tradeoffs [like getting to where Braffit will buy a 'used' item from me for the same price that will sell it back fully charged] and twists [like it's best to kill spawn from Al-Sedexus with a Death Cloud to keep other templars happy with me].

I own two copies (gave one to the 'kid next door' last year when he got married as a Wedding Gift - I don't think his wife appreciated it much - oh well), My recent copies were $19.95 each at Best Buy (I indicate to XP to use WIN98 compatibility mode).

Ziggurat 08-06-2004 12:12 AM

I was having problems with my Wiz 8 disk (or was it the CD player?) so I went ahead and bought another copy on Amazon through J&R a few weeks ago. It is still unopened. It is now my emergency backup copy of Wiz 8 for when CD rot finally kicks in. I'm thinking about getting KoToR but have pretty much stuck with this game since it was released. There are none better! I still enjoy player development and try variations on sequences of plot.

Micha369 08-07-2004 01:27 PM

Hello folks,

now I have problems with what to do next.

I have the coordinates from the dark savant ship (1,1,2). In my journal it reads "Use orbit tracker to get orbital coordinates"

In the adjacent building the computer is in need of the system files to install the tracking module. But what item is required here?

Scatter 08-07-2004 05:04 PM

Black Box. Not the broken one, but the whole one you get in Bayjin.

Micha369 08-07-2004 05:26 PM

Is it reasonable to give the priest after he got 100 Piety also points in Int?

And should I give my mages Piety Points too?

Thanks for your hints!

Micha

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 08-07-2004 06:00 PM

Piety increases stamina, so it's always good. Int gives you power cast which is good too.

Scatter 08-07-2004 07:15 PM

Mage should be more concerned about Dex, for Raflextion, and Spd up some. If you've read enough Books, your SP reserve should be pretty good. And if your Priest's Spd (or Dex) is low, forget Int. Especially if there's really not much hope of getting Powercast before you've ascended.
