ADD] SoA Spoilers
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ During my BG1 run, I came up with a few ideas on how to deal with my BG2 encounters, especially the modded ones. These ideas are neither fair, nor logical, and have their origins in posts from the past. I intend to experiment with some of them for the Improved Faldorn fight. If all goes well, I intend to make a mockery out of that fight. [ 05-23-2006, 08:26 AM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |
A question for you Dundee...
Have you been using Rena's poison weapon ability for ranged attacks? And on that note, would using darts be worthwhile for more chances to inflict poison per round? |

Great work, Dundee! I am endlessly impressed by the scripts you've worked out. Remind me to subcontract the finer points of the enemy AIs to you when I do my first combat-related mods. |
I did give some thought to dualclassing... but when I think of Fighters, I think of big burly muscles, and that is not what I had in mind for Rena's character. I want her to remain... eh-to... deceptively weak-looking.
One rule of thumb I intend to play by, is that I will have no more than 2 of each HLA traps. I wish to experiment with the other Thief HLAs, especially Greater Evasion and Avoid Death. Alchemy and Scribe Scrolls will be fun to have too, especially if I relegate their casting to the AI Scripts, to save me the hassle of remembering to cast them, just like what I did with Good Berries. I am also intentionally playing with Item Upgrades this time round, because I want to see how effective is Quietus if I wield it in Rena's off-hand, while I wield something damaging in her main-hand, under the influence of Improved Haste, and stabbing somebody's face with Assassination after a Time-Stop Trap has been triggered. I just need to find a suitable target. Hmm... come to think of it, I can throw in a GoES after UAI to add in another 1 ApR. |

[(1D8+2+7) x6 + (1D6+2+7) x2] x7 > [(1D8+2+7) x4 + (1D4+4+7) x2] x8. Quietus = best for regular Backstabbing, not whirling death machine. And don't you get only +0.5 ApR from the GoES? [EDIT: Put Quietus in the offhand. Same overall result.] [ 05-25-2006, 04:45 PM: Message edited by: SixOfSpades ] |
Congratulations Dundee, very nice the screenshots.
I have soloed an Assassin through BG1+TotSC with Tutu and I had a lot of fun too.But I am not sure, how he will fare in a (heavily) modded BG2. And a question : Does the assassin's poison pass through stoneskin ? I was sure it did, but after trying it in Ilyich's dungeon I was disappointed ... @SixOfSpades The GoES bonus becomes +1 with improved Haste. And Scarlet Ninja-To +3 with the Belm in the off-hand can do even better ;) EDIT : Oops sorry,I forgot that you can't backstab with the Scarlet :D [ 05-25-2006, 06:50 PM: Message edited by: thetruth ] |

Celestial Fury +5's avg phy dmg = (1d10 + 5)dmg = 10.5avg GoES give +2dmg 24STR gives +12dmg Dualwielding gives me 2ApR, with GoES, that makes it 2.5ApR. Improved Haste turns this in 5 ApR. Main-Hand Damage = 10.5 + 1 + 2 + 12 = 25.5avg Off-Hand Damage = 8 + 1 + 2 + 12 = 23avg Factor in x8 Backstab Modifier and we have... 3 hits of 204dmg plus 2 hits of 184dmg, for a total round damage of 980. Right... now I just need to find a target that can take this kind of punishment. |

Not that you would ever find a target that could take that much damage. And if you did, you could just use poison weapon and add all that extra damage. |
There are 2 ways to apply many Backstabs in a single round, but they both require ToB, so I won't describe them here.
You can apply 2 Backstabs in a round in BG1, but you'd need a Potion of Invisibility, and be a Fighter/Thief to have more than 1 attack per round. |
Ah yes... a second way. I totally forgot about that one. Man... my BG memory is fuzzy after all these years. Thanks for the reminder, Six.

Hey, I'm the one who's never cast Wyvern Call.
