LOL, no, nor Em, hence the following:
Shortly after, while they were still discussing this, Noemi came in, freshly awakened fom a nap. When she learned that Drizzt had been there, she exploded. "What!" she cried, "Drizzt was here and you didn't wake me up? Why? I've been wanting to talk to him for just forever." Chorania raised one brow. "What, Noemi," she asked sardonically, "you interested in a mere male? I should not be surprised, though. He is very handsome. And I hear that he is not married." "Oh," said Attalus innocently, "I believe that he is involved with some ranger..." He trailed off as nobody was listening to him. Noemi was glaring at Chorania, and his wife was laughing quietly. He hastily left, muttering about things that he had to do. Women, he thought. I'l never understand them. When he had gone, Noemi blazed at the amused drow. "Cho, I never should have told you. You shouldn't say things like that in front of Attalus. He might guess, and hate me. I'd have to leave." She turned to her sister, who was still smiling, "And Gal, what are you laughing at? You know how I feel, and you're making fun of me." "Don't be silly, Em," she said, "Attalus isn't jealous of you. And he'd never hate you. He's very fond of you, you know that. I was laughing because it was funny, not to upset you. Don't be mad." She came over to her and hugged her. "Come on, sweetie, calm down." Noemi's face relaxed a little, but she remained angry. "You never take me seriously. Neither does Cho. Why can't I get any sympathy, at least? You used to be so nice to me. Now, since Cho came back, you are really mean." Galadria shot an alarmed look at her drow friend. "Em, that is just not so," she said, reasonably. " I can see that you might be jealous because she has a problem that is taking up a lot of my attention, but it's always going to be like that Attalus complains when I neglect him, too, you know. But, when there's a problem, I have to concentrate on that. You know that I have to, for all our sakes. I have told you, repeatedly, that you are my best friend. Now stop sulking, and I'll give you a kiss." "Well, okay," the redhead mumbled. Galadria started to kiss her on the cheek, but she quickly turned her head and kissed the dark woman squarely on the mouth. "There," she said with satisfaction. "You deserved that, and so did I." She licked her lips. "Mmmm. You taste good." "Oh, Em," Galadria cried in exasperation, as she released her. Chorania chuckled and then said. "I am sorry, m'zint to, I did not mean to upset you. You are right, I should not have said that in front of Attalus. Though I agree with your sister, he never would think anything bad about your love for his wife. He could not conceive of it. I would never do anything that would force you to leave this house, your refuge as well as mine. Now, come here." The redhead came to her as requested, and they embraced. " No kisses, though. I would not have you surprise me the way you did my Mistress." Noemi laughed, good humor restored. "You don't know what you're missing, Cho." |
lol; thanks for posting Lady G. hhm, why didnt I see it earlier? bah, prob coz I wasnt looking heh. LOL at Em. Really, she is being the annoying little sister. "Gal" should play mother to her and spank her, do you think it would settle her down? (A) prob not, keep posting ;)

Gal gets annoyed at Em all of the time, but it doesn't do a lot of good. ;) CD, I sent you a PM. Some more.
Just a few days later, they stood at the entrance to the Underdark that Chorania had used, years ago. It was not one of the more frequently used ones, and was far away from any drow city, so it was unguarded.. After checking carefully for traps and ambushes, they went in. Darkness immediately covered them, and they stood where they were for a while until their eyesight adjusted. They found themselves in a small tunnel, stalactites hanging down. It was not completly dark as it seemed at first, because of the glow of phosphorescent minerals. Since there seemed to be no threat, they walked cautiously forward. Noemi then, without orders but because of long habit, went out scouting ahead. Galadria whispered to Chorania, "How did you find this place, Cho?" "Calith told me of it, long ago," she whispered back, "This is where one of his war patrols went onto the surface in a night raid. It was used, he said, because it was little known. So I, thinking that any knowledge that was secret might be an advantage to me, sought it out. The day that I fled the Underdark, I chose it for the same reason: few used it, and I was less likely to encounter any of my family." She smiled. "If I had known that you and Attalus had been up here, I would have fled, sooner, perhaps." "Will you two hush?" Cythera hissed. "Something is going to hear you and attack us. Cho, don't the drow have a system of hand signals that they use when they want to be secret?" "We do, m'zint to," Chorania answered with amusement. "Perhaps I should teach you, so that the next time that we venture into the dark, we can chat without alerting the enemy." A small animal ran across the little blonde's feet. She made a squeal, instantly supressed. "What was that?" she whispered to the drow. She laughed silently. "Why, Cyth, that was you and Noemi, a m'zint." Intrigued, Cythera asked, "You always call us m'zint to, but you say that is a m'zint. What is the difference?" "A m'zint to is a female m'zint. A male is a m'zint ali." Even more interested, she inquired further, "So why do you call us m'zint tos?" "It is what you might call a mild insult," Chorania answered, "There is a saying in drow: Useless as a m'zint, no pelt big enough to wear, no trophy head to mount, not even big enough to provide a bite to eat." Cythera shook her head ruefully. "I can't believe that I let you call me that over the years and never asked what it meant. I even thought that it might be an endearment, like 'sweetie.'" Chorania laughed outright. "There are no endearments in drow, Cyth. You should know this." She put her arm around the little blonde's shoulders. "But you should also know that, over the years, it has become an endearment to me. I cannot bring myself to say 'sweetie,' as you and Galadria do. So, this is my substitute." "Cyth," added the dark mage severely, "who is being the blabbermouth, now? You can get a drow lesson from Cho when we get to a place of safety. Pay attention, you two!" Attalus and Odo exchanged an amused glance. They had never felt the need to chatter in times of danger, and sometimes they felt irritation when their womenfolk did. Noemi reappeared, briefly, and gave the signal that all was safe. They advanced, once more in silence. Sefa was rather awestruck by the long trip in the dark. At first, she was tense, expecting attack at any second, but now her natural ebullience had reasserted itself. She looked back at her Mistress, and saw her on high alert, scanning every shadow, and the rest were doing the same. Her confidence drooped again, and she clutched her bow tightly. They continued in this way until Noemi spotted a group of softly glowing plants. Every sense alert, she hid behind a boulder and watched as the weird mushrooms slowly moved about the circumscribed area, never quite leaving, but also never standing still. She carefully stole back and alerted the group. "A myconid grove," said Odo with a whistle. "Well, Gal, what are we to do? Cho, can you communicate with those things?" The drow shook her head. "I have not, though I have heard of drow that did. So, tell us, abbil, shall we attack, and alert every thing in the neighborhood? Will you roast them with magic? Drow are drawn to magic use, so that might be a way to contact them. But, also, the drow of the city, if any are nearby, will sense it and perhaps come hunting for us." Attalus grunted. Except in great numbers, he had little opinion of drow patrols. They had fought off too many. Corhydras had drunk of drow blood, often, but he wouldn't think of mentioning it at this time. Chorania's feelings might be hurt. Galadria considered. It was tempting just to flatten the things. They had to be dealt with, for they would attack them if they tried to pass. But, she resisted the urge. They wouldn't get very far if they just killed everything that they ran across. It might antagonise something better placated. After all, she reminded herself, this was, as she herself had said, a rescue mission and an embassy. However, just in case, she readied a great spell that would, with just a few words, blast the grove for eternity. |
lol, I msut say that you seem to have captured Em's personality well, Lady G; I could just picture Em behaving like that on BG ;) oh, and I replied to your PM, thanks again ;) erm, could I "persuade" you to post some more please? thanks in advance. lol, you know its funny, for your last novel, (the one before this) KAT was the one asking you to post... now its me... ;) strange that eh? ;) I s'pose it'll be her turn next time ;) ...

LOL, thanks, CD. Here you go:
"Noemi," she called softly. In an instant, her sister was beside her. "What is it, Gal?" she returned in the same tone, holding her head close to hers. "How close can you get to them? The myconids, I mean?" "Oh," she whispered, "about ten yards, I guess. There's a big rock outcropping right there." "Can you make out the king?" "Sure," Noemi replied, "he's the big one on the right." "I want you to cast a confusion spell on him. He might just wander off, and we could try to talk to him." "Okay," said the redhead with a nod, and slid off. Shortly, she returned and said, in a more normal tone. "All done. He's wandering around over by the big pool." They rushed over and were greeted by the sight of a giant Myconid wandering dazedly by a luminous pool of some dark liquid. Galadria made some magical gestures. "Alla zoo, alla zay, ripee," she chanted. The thing stopped wandering and focussed on them, after seemingly looking around and finding itself no longer in the midst of its fellows. Seeing himself surrounded, it waited passively to see what its confronters intended. Chorania addressed it. In two different tongues she asked: "Do you understand Drow? Deep gnome?" To her surprise it said something like, "DEEE NOOO..." Sefa couldn't understand how it made noises like that without a mouth, but chalked it up to a whole lot of things that she didn't understand. The drow went on in the language of the Deep Gnomes, "Are there any other drow around here? Not from the city, but that live here? They would be in hiding from the other drow." The Myconid King surprised everyone by turning to Galadria instead of its drow interlocutor. "NOOO KILL?" it asked. "What did it say, Cho?" the dark mage said in puzzlement, "And why is it talking to me?" The drow translated, and Galadria shook her head in wonder. "Tell it that I'm not going to kill it or its fellow beings, now.. Tell it to answer your questions, though, or I might become angry." Chorania managed to make herself clear to the creature, and it replied, "DROWW THERE..." and pointed a stumpy arm to a nearby cavern entrance. Satisfied, they parted and let it flee back to the grove in a rapid waddle, where it was quickly surrounded by its anxious subjects. They trooped to the cavern entrance, and, after checking it thoroughly, crept carefully in. |
:D fun its starting to get going ;) action (erm just holding up everyones steryotypical view of me being a blood thirsty addolescent male ;) ) heh, post more? pleease? lol, I really should stop bugging you to post so much, I may finish your novel in a week at this rate ;) hmm, so what; I ask you to post about 4 to 6 times a day? hehe. baaaaaad me, shouldnt read so fast ;) . Still, I suppose its a good thing ;) the story HAS to be good to keep me interested ;) . Have you considered getting these published Lady G? Seriously? I think they'd probably sell quite well, I mean some ppl here at IWs like em... of course theres the issue of copywrite, but since you didnt accutally use any of the names from the game it *shouldnt* be a prob... just a couple of thoughts there. ;) great work :D
|
Yes, Attalus keeps after me to publish them, and I thank you for your encouragement. As for the characters, Noemi is really the only one that I used, though obviously there is a bit of Nalia in Cythera. We shall see.
As usual, Noemi scouted ahead. Sneaking around a corner, she froze as she heard a pebble click on the floor. Carefully examining the area, she heard another stealthy movement behind a moderate-sized rock. She slung her bow around her neck, carefully crept over, then rushed behind it, drawing her sword Questioner. Cold blue light showed a small drow child cowering on the rock floor, with one ankle chained to a stake. The child regarded Noemi in horror, scuttling as far away as her chain would allow. Her first impulse was to free the child at once, but the redhead had learned to her cost to disregard first impulses in such a place, especially in the literal light of her sword's warning glow. The sword's magic was to darken in times of danger, with a sunny pink glow in its absense.. This was why she kept it sheathed in the dark, when concealment was a virtue, and instead carried her bow. She carefully examined the stake and chain by it's light and felt her magic sense tingling. This called for her sister. Galadria and Chorania took their turn examining the stake. The child, seeming to realise that they meant it no harm, was babbling to the drow woman in their native language, as the rest stood in the background.. The dark mage straightened and asked her friend, "What is she saying, Cho?" Chorania faced her Mistress, grimly.. "She says, abbil, that a drow mage lured her to his room on promise of payment, then, after he had used her, he had given her some wine to drink. I suppose that it was drugged, for she woke up here, chained as you see. She has been here for days, without food, though some water was left in a bottle. If you allow, I am going to kill him. I know you would not sanction torture, which he deserves, but it needs consideration." "Well, then," Galadria replied, her face equally grim, "that fits. This stake is trapped. There is a magical link that will give an alarm when it is cut or uprooted. I suppose that a patrol would be sent, then, I imagine, since Noemi did not find any fiery or mechanical device. Have you heard of such?" "Yes, abbil," Chorania replied. "Calith told me of such training devices. They take waifs like this and place them in areas that training patrols of young drow males are going to be near. When some beast like a Hook Horror attacks the child for food, or anyone releases them, the patrol is told that a princess of some powerful family is kidnapped and, when they find the monster or whoever, they are encouraged to try to rescue the child, who, as I say, turns out to be no princess but a mudlark." Sefa was shocked. As a former street child, herself, she could sympathize. She studied the child, who was looking hopefully at each in turn. Taking a bun out of her pack, she went over to her and offered it. She smiled. "Hi, " she said slowly. "My name is Sefa. These are my friends. We are going to rescue you." Her Mistress heard her and turned to regard them. She was touched. Of them all, only Sefa was doing anything for the poor thing, set here as bait. For whom? Training purposes? Or, since this was the cavern where the Outsiders were reported as having been, for them? It did not seem likely that most drow would bother over a worthless urchin, but these were diffferent. It would be a fitting thing to try to betray them by their charity. Well, they were going to get more than a few skulkers around the cavern, she decided. "Attalus," she said firmly, "be a dear and cut that chain, will you? Places, everyone!" They all formed around Galadria, now, with her back to the wall. Odo and Chorania were at the front, and Noemi and Cythera were on either side of her, Sefa directly before her, her bow at the ready. Attalus cut the chain with one swing of Corhydras and took his place at Odo's side. |
Well Lady G, I *would* say "you should listen to Att" but I get the feeling that you'd probably smack me again ;) like you did during that "wedding" ceromony... lol, and "we shall see" has overtones of ominous in it... or am I just reading it wrong ;) *grin* please post again, don't make me wait until tommorw to find out what happens, I'll be "good" honest... uugh, why am I acting like this? :| most out of character ;) ah well, "addopted" "cyberspace" "parents in law" I guess. ;) still it doesnt hurt (too much) to be poliet... ;) (especially because of ou being addopted in law parents..."mother dearest" *grin* ah I'm in a slightly silly mood at the moment... something from Em musta rubbed off... ;) or it could be lack of cafine... hehe, I really shouldnt type so much... ...)

Here you go, Calethis:
They all formed around Galadria, now, with her back to the wall. Odo and Chorania were at the front, and Noemi and Cythera were on either side of her, Sefa directly before her, her bow at the ready. Attalus cut the chain with one swing of Corhydras and took his place at Odo's side. The air exploded with magiclly-arriving drow. They were, as predicted, young except for a mage that was urging them on in Drow. Chorania understood him to say, "Onward, drow warriors. Slay me these renegades for Lolth." He stopped in the middle of his diatribe, for, instead of the poorly-led Outsiders he expected, there were well-equipped and armed opponents. And mages among them, he realised too late, when Noemi and Cythera stripped him of his magic protections. Galadria saw this and launched a paralysis spell. He froze in mid-spell. He could still see, however, and his mind was clear. He saw, to his amazment, a, to him, huge drow female, wearing no House badge. He felt a twinge of excitement. An Outsider, indeed. Let him get his claws on her, and Lolth would be pleased indeed. If only this cursed spell would wear off. He hoped his warriors would leave at least that one alive, for a short period. His hopes faded. His warriors died on Corhydras, Odo's mace Starshine, and Chorania's hammer. The spell held. He realised frantically that he was in the grips of no ordinary paralysis spell, which would have worn off by now. This one was the work of a master. The female drow? No, she was happily slaying his youngsters with single strokes of her great hammer. Ah, that one. He saw the surfacer in black standing with arms folded while the girls on either side of her were freezing, frying, and electrocuting the young drow of his party. She was looking directly into his eyes, he realized to his horror. She was maintaining the spell by direct mental command. She was, at the least, an Ipsissimus, a white magician who had gained conversance with her tutelary diety. As Attalus cut the last drow warrior in half, the five women, the drow and the rest, surrounded him. Galadria still kept him in his spell until the ring was complete, with herself and Chorania before him. She placed an amulet around the mage's neck, then spoke a single word. "Amech." Suddenly, the spell was lifted. He could move! He started to cast a spell, but found he could not. The amulet! An anti-magic device! He felt the sting of two points in his back. The big female drow spoke then. "Do not move, male," she said in Drow, with an amused tone. "If you do, you will be spitted with the biggest sword that I have ever seen, and a amusingly poisoned knife." He looked over his shoulder and saw the biggest human that he had ever seen with the huge sword poised against his right kidney. A young girl, almost his size, held a glowing knife over the other. The drow child that he had used to set the trap appeared in front of her. She regarded him accusingly. "Sorsha," said Chorania, "is that the male that did this to you?" The waif glared at him . "Yes, Lady Chorania, it is. Bastard." She walked over to the mage and kicked him in the scrotum. It hurt like the hells, but he was a drow, and fought it off. "Are you then," he gritted, "Chorania LeMeaux?" At her proud nod, he groaned. The greatest prize of all, save perhaps Drizzt Do'Urden. He looked at her hungrily. She was indeed a magnificent creature. Her glorious mouth, those sultry eyes, the heave of that magnificent bosom. He pictured her in his bed, then spreadeagled on the altar of Lolth. His reverie was interrupted, however. She, recognizing the lusts in his eyes, strode over to him and slapped him hard enough to knock him down, then kicked him, repeatedly, in the ribs, while abusing him in Drow. Finishing, she asked. Galadria, "May I kill him, abbil?" "Not just yet, Cho," Galadria ordered, grimly. "Ask him who he is and why he was here." "Who are you, male?" she shouted, punctuating each question with a kick. "I know that you are of House D'Ospann by your badge. Why were you here, throwing half-grown boys against my Mistress, eh? Who were you hunting?" When she relented, he got out, between gasps of air: "I am Amanta D'Ospann, damn you. We were searching for traitors like you. Who is your Mistress, anyhow? I've never even heard of that spell." Chorania looked at the dark mage. "He wants to know who you are, abbil. Shall I tell him?" At her nod, she addressed the drow mage again. "Bow down, male. You are in the presence of the very Lady Galadria, she who destroyed the entire city of B'ren Naylor when it turned against her. Lolth's foremost foe, greatest of the drow-banes, and my rescuer. She who chose mortality over godhood. Are you afraid? Do you tremble? You should. You are very close to death." The drow mage looked up from the bowing position that she had forced him into. He saw only the tall, slender woman in black robes that had enchanted him. He knew of the surfacer known as Galadria, but had always pictured her as something as terrible as Lolth herself, but she appeared very ordinary. Nothing like the beauty of Chorania or the women on either side of her. "That is Galadria? We never heard what she looked like. No one survived the fall of B'ren Naylor. Lolth would indeed have been pleased if I had brought you two in, but I had no chance. Chorania," he recoiled as she kicked him in the face, but went on: "Why have you come back, when you were safe on the surface, hmmm?" His breathing eased, though he could tell that he had broken ribs. "Are you looking for your brother, who went missing after killing the leader of his patrol, just because M'Burto had just siezed the great trophy of a surface elf female's head? That was like him, always a weakling, as they said you were, though I see that the reports of your weakness should have been limited to your heart." |
Thank you for posting Lady G! *bows* stupid drow. he deserves to get his ribbs broken... they DO kill him right? I mean, wasting healing magic on him? heh, I dont think so, however "surfacers are soft" right? ;) heh. anyway, I'm off to bed now, goodnight Lady G and Att, and thanks for posting again. *grin* "Mother" ;) lol, well I wont ask you to kiss me and tuck me into bed *opps, I really shouldnt be cheeky... sowwy :( * cya tommorw, keep posting ;) .

;) Yes, Caelethis, this is the one. Go ahead and print out The Pit Lord, but put my name on it, please. Some more:
Chorania kicked him again, inadvertantly puncturing a lung. The drow's breathing grew more labored. His ebon complexion paled, and his lips turned blue. "Are you going to kill me now? Why, because of what I did to that brat? It was amusing to have a female weaker than me, to do what I wanted for a change. Ah, well, it is all up. At least I have been killed by the ones that Lolth hates the most. That should grant me favor in the Abyss." His eyes rolled up and he fell, sprawling. He was dead. The little drow girl ground her foot on his face. Odo checked him. "Dead," he grunted, "Cho, you must work on your rage. I know you think that he deserved to die, but these emotions are very bad for your soul. We have talked." Her anger gone, Chorania buried her face in her hands. " I did not mean to do it, Odo, I swear. Will Helm withdraw His protection, now?" She grasped the amulet as though it might be forcibly taken from her. Odo clapped her on the shoulder. "Not for this. He understands that all, even His chosen, can sin. I have told you that sometimes you must kill. I am glad that you repent, though. That drow, there, never would have. It shows that the good at war with evil in your soul, triumphed. But, it was not a good thing, either. Let us not repeat it." He turned to the little drow girl. "Cho, why don't you ask her if she knows anything about the Outsiders." After rooting in her pack for some food, Chorania approached the child, stilll gleefully abusing the D'Ospann mage's body. "Sorsha, I have something for you," she said softly. She offered her bread and cheese, which she took gratefully. As the child tore into the food, the drow woman asked, "Where are you from?" "Hol' Korda," she said between bites. "My mother is a servant of House DoJama. I don't know about my father. Where do you live?" "I live on the Surface," she replied, "with my Mistress, here. Does that surprise you?" The girl replied by looking at her with astonishment. "The Surface? I thought it was full of monster elves that hate drow. I heard you say to that b'jinn," she spat at the dead mage, "that your Mistress hates the drow. Why are you with her? Are you a traitor that he called you?" She resumed eating. First things first "My Mistress does not hate the drow, witness me, whom she cares for like a member of her own House. She hates Lolth. I am no traitor but a rebel, Sorsha. Do you understand the difference?" "I understand," she replied warmly, "that those drow of the First Houses that treat me so badly, like that one there, are horrible. I understand that they meant for me to die, for some reason to do with you. And, I understand that you and your Mistress are treating me better than those in Hol'Korda. If not for my mother, I would go with you." "Well, Sorsha, I am afraid that you will have to travel with us for a while. We cannot go to Hol'Korda,, and you are too young to find your way back, alone and unarmed. We will not force you, and you can leave if you want, but, I do not advise this. As you eat, can you tell me of any drow that live in this area? Those not under Lolth's control?" The waif thought. "We hear," she said carefully, "that there are indeed drow like you say, not subject to Lolth. They fight with the patrols, and the rumor is that their number is growing. A patrol disappeared last month, no one returned. The Priestesses accompanied them for awhile, but we never heard anything. Are you and your Mistress the reason for that?" She indicated the twenty or so scattered bodies. "You surely destroyed this one." She resumed eating. |
aww, how cute *evil grin* a playmate for Sefa lol, please keep posting. btw, lady G, I put your name on it anyway. I found something odd tho, as I was copying and pasting it, and I DIDNT miss any posts, the chapter numbers were odd, number IV and V seemed non existant, the numbering I mean, it jumps from III to VII in Pit Lord. just to point this out...
*edit* what font would you recormend printing it out in Lady G? (after all it IS your story, and asking IS only poliet...arnt I a good boy? (A) ) [ 10-19-2002, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: Calaethis Dragonsbane ] |
Sorry, CD, the chapters are all off on The Pit Lord. Piestrider complained about it too. Some more:
Attalus and Odo stacked the bodies. Cythera and Noemi had searched them without much result, except that, on the dead mage, they found a small scroll. It contained, in drow code, a description of several Outsiders. Chorania was very excited, for her brother's name was on the list. The very first item was: "Calith LeMeaux, two spans high, last seen wearing a black leather tunic, grey pilliwifi cloak, heading for the Fracterous Cavern. Brother of the notorious Chorania LeMeaux. Reward high." Attalus, seeing the murmuring group around the drow, came over to see what all the fuss was about. "So," he murmured after a while, "I am groupmates with the Notorious Chorania LeMeaux. What does that mean, I wonder? I thought, Cho, that all the drow of Hol'Korda thought that you had simply disappeared?" "Well," she slowly replied after the excitement of seeing her brother's name wore off, "we know that Lolth was under no such misapprehension. She has many ways of communicating with the priestesses. The Handmaidens, for instance. It could have beeen just that simple. I would make more of it if some of these had been of my House, but it seems that Lolth is spreading the alarm more generally. Pity. I would enjoy combat with some of my sisters." They swung in column and marched along. Attalus examined the drow child, now marching along with Chorania. He saw no such soul as his friend. It seemed a small and squirming thing. He kept it in mind, overhearing the child eagerly talking to her race mate in Drow. The girl Sorsha was saying, "So, tell me why you went to the surface? I would be afraid to." Chorania replied, "I had no choice. I was pursued, or so I thought. I knew that they would not follow me, there. Though, eventually, they did" "But you survived. Tell me, how did you enter into the service of such a mighty mage, and you a drow fugitive?" Chorania smiled to herself, recalling Galadria's early efforts in magic. She had not been a very powerful wizard when first they met. But, how she had grown! Cythera, at first, was her equal in every way, but now, her aristocratic friend was merely her assistant, deferring to her. She merely replied, "My Mistress is an extremely good judge of character, which means that we shall put you off as soon as we are certain of your safety. I have thought on your story. Why did you go to that male's rooms at night? To lie with him, for money? That is not like I should like a drow female, especially one as young as you, to behave." Sorsha glowered at her. "Easy enough for a high -born bitch to say. I needed money and I need power. He seemed to have both. Why not use my body to advance myself.? How else? I don't think any Surface magicians are going to pick me to be their drow pet. Tell me, Lady-know-it-all, how did she destroy B'ren Naylor, leaving not a babe alive? Plenty have wondered at that. It was, they say, the worst defeat that the drow have ever had." |
ooooh, thats really gonna irrate Cho.. lol, does she slap the child? she should... post more, please?

Okay:
Chorania knew the answer. She had been there. They had been sneaking through the city when the alarm had been given. Hordes of drow had descended upon them, including, eventually, the matron mothers. She recalled fighting on interminably, slowly tiring, wounded, her shield arm broken. Attalus and Odo were wounded and faltering, too, Cythera at the end of her strength. She had looked up at Galadria, standing like a standard in their midst, paralysed with indecision. "Galadria," she had shouted in the hellish din, "Use the spell." They had come across a dying gnome mage who had been tortured by some drow. Efforts at reviving him had seemed in vain, when he had roused. Looking about wildly, he had said, "You will be my revenge! To slay the drow in that city, use my spell." He had removed the scroll from a pocket that hadn't been there, before, and given it to them. It contained a spell to bring down the rocky ceiling of B'ren Naylor. Galadria had said she would not do such a thing, but now the need was on them. Chorania had wanted it all to end under crushing rock, them, their enemies and all. Galadria was still hesitating, when a Priestss in black had struck Noemi with her mace. Down she went. Galadria screamed, "Noemi!" and came to a instant decison. She cast a spell, and, suddenly, their party was encased in a transparent, impenetrable bubble. Their foes raged in vain outside, and the dark mage drew forth the spell scroll. She read it, and everything had turned black with falling rocks and loud with rumbles and shrieks. Thinking that she was dead, Chorania had been surprised to be still breathing. She looked around, and all of her friends were alive, too. Galadria and Odo were tending Noemi, and a light appeared from above. It was the surface. The drow city had been built beneath a very thin layer of rock, and the spell had found some flaw. Every drow in the place had perished, but they had not, preserved by the spell. They scrambled out into the sunlight of an early morning, leaving chaos behind. It had been a grief to Galadria, she knew, but to her mind, it had been herself, her friends and her sister against their evil foes. After their narrow escape, they had gone to the estate of Cythera, not yet married to Odo, to lick their wounds. She had come across the dark mage sitting alone on the terrace at sunset, and sat down next to her. "What are you thinking, abbil? About our glorious victory and miraculous survival? Knowing you, I would wager not. Tell Chorania. What is troubling you?" She had smiled at her, then, the glorious Galadria smile that so heartened her followers, but sad, this time. "If you must know, Cho, and knowing you, you must, I am thinking of the innocent people in that drow city that I, personally, killed. It is a heavy burden." She sighed. "But, there was no other way! We were all going to be killed. I had a responsibilty. How could I watch them kill you, Noemi, Attalus, Cyth, and Odo? If it had just been me, I think I would have gone under and left my corpse there. Sometimes, I think the world would be a better place without me. I have caused so much death." "I knew that you would feel sorrow, abbil," she replied, "and I cannot say in a flippant way, that there are no innocents in a drow city. Witness myself and my brother. We could well have died, if we had been in that city when you had to destroy it. But, for you it was not an option. You must not feel that the realms are suffering because of your presence. I, for one, would not be alive if not for you. Or Noemi. Cythera would be married to that b'jinn and perhaps murdered. Odo could never have rescued her alone. Be comforted. Think of all of the evil that we have dispatched. Remember their victims, like that insane child that troubled you so much. There would have been more, if not for you. Do not punish yourself, so.". Galadria had given her an odd look, then. "You would not be alive if not for me? What if you had met Attalus alone? You know that he would have saved you from those men. You might be married to him now instead of me. Ever think of that?" Ruthlessly suppressing the idea of herself with the blonde knight, she had replied, firmly, "I am never going to marry anyone, abbil. Besides, I doubt that even your dear Attalus could have stood beween me and a cruel world so well as you have. Open your eyes. Many, like me, are better off because of you. You just cannot see them standing before you as do the dead of B'ren Naylor. Let us stand in your mind for them, for your desire to do good and fight evil. Courage! The road will end, some day." Galadria had hugged her, then, and they had gone inside. |
post more! :D lol, great work. ;)

All right, . Must be slow, today.
So she thought, but did not tell Sorsha. The drow girl was eventually going back to Hol'Korda. Let her bear a tale of the mighty Galadria, so that they might be afraid. She doubted that even Lolth knew of how her Mistress had destroyed B'ren Naylor. The more powerful that they thought her, the more they would leave them alone. Weakness invited attack. Certainly, Lolth's hand was stayed by the possibility that the dark mage had the power to destroy a drow city, greatly diminishing her divine power. She also must know that Galadria had turned down godhood. She would be wary of that one. "Sorsha," she finally replied, "my Mistress is a very powerful sorceress. She does not grant me, her servant, the secrets of her great Art, but I will tell you that we were attacked, without provocation, by the drow of the city. Offended by their temerity, she decided to punish them by bringing down the roof of the cavern where B'ren Naylor lay. As you know, as the result of her wrath, the city is no more." The waif seemed to consider. "Powerful indeed. I saw how you handled the patrol. Why did she just not smite them dead?" Chorania sensed danger. It seemed to her that this was no ordinary street waif. The patrol that they had destroyed had been very weak. Was this child a bait to be place as a spy among the Outsiders? Was that why she was trying to join them? One thing was sure. She had to be watched carefully. Aloud, she answered, "I do not know all of her reasons. Ask her yourself, if you dare. But I would speculate that she wanted that mage to question. That is all I can tell you." That night, they slept in an alcove. Odo, who had the watch, was sitting at the opening, scanning the shadows. They slept without a fire, which could attract undesirible attention. While Chorania pretended to sleep, she watched the little drow girl closely. Sure enough, she got stealthily up and went over to Galadria's bedroll. This lay between Attalus and Noemi, both of which lay close to her, making it difficult to get to her. She was reaching for her Mistress' knapsack when Chorania gave the alarm. "Awake!" she bawled. "Treason!" She lit a magic flare, and bounded toward the girl, fully armored, weapon ready. The 'girl' morphed into a Sochol, a Handmaiden of Lolth, like a tentacled giant that had melted and run. She bore a huge club, which she aimed murderously at Galadria. Who, suddenly, just wasn't there. The club impacted against the cavern floor with a ringing sound. Attalus and Noemi were up in a trice, stabbing the creature with Corhydras and Questioner. Galadria reappeared about ten feet away, casting a protection removal spell, and Cythera smote the monster with a lightning bolt. Chorania herself hit the thing's arm at the elbow, breaking it and making her drop the club. Attalus stepped on the club, swinging Corhydras at her midsection, gashing the Handmaiden terrificly, Odo was there, then, and smashed its skull with Starshine, and his wife contributed an ice spear, which plunged into her vitals. Galadria finished her off with boiling acid, and she collapsed on the floor, a stinking pool. As Attalus sheathed his sword, he remarked, "Here are deep waters. What do you think, Gal? Was that meant for you, personally, or was that just a garden-variety trap? How could the Handmaidens have known that we were coming this way?" Galadria considered and replied, "I guess that we are entering territory known to contain Outsiders. The Handmaiden was supposed to join them, and then betray their location to Lolth. We must be nearing your brother, Cho." |

LOL, hi. <font color=lavender>Galadria</font> is off running, and she asked me to post some more if anyone had responded, so I do:
"I feel that you are right, abbil," she replied. "So much trouble on the part of some Matron Mother argues the need for some revenge or for a victim to sacrifice to Lolth. We must be on the right track. But, now we must move, for our location should surely be known to the Handmaidens, and if we stay here we shall invite further attack." They hurriedly decamped, and moved to an alcove miles away in the twisting tunnels. The next day, Noemi, scouting ahead as usual, slipped on some loose gravel and plunged into a deep hole. They quickly rescued her, but she complained that her ankle was hurting, and Chorania quickly determined that it was sprained or broken. She and Odo joined in a healing spell, but she would have to rest for a day. Galadria turned to Cythera and Sefa. "I need you two to scout instead of Noemi. Cyth, teach Sefa how to do it, for I really shouldn't be sending Noemi out scouting any more than I do you. Sefa, this will be a good opportunity for you to learn. You keep complaining that you feel like a tag-along." So, Sefa joined the aristocratic blonde slinking around the winding tunnels. Cythera was pleased at how fast she picked up the techniques of sliding herself along, nearly invisible to prying eyes. After a while, ruefully she realized that Sefa was better at it than she, herself. She reported the fact to Galadria, who smiled at her protege and ruffled her curly hair. "Sefa, I knew that you would prove yourself useful," she said proudly. "Now is the time for you to start scouting on your own. Report back to me at intervals." She fished out a gem from her capacious pockets. "Here, take this. If you need us, drop it on the ground, and I shall be there like lightning." Sefa, her face tingling with pleasure at her Mistress' praise and at the new responsibility, started off again. She caught Noemi's eye as she lay on her bedroll, her injured leg propped up on Galadria's pack. The little redhead flashed her a thumbs-up sign, and she moved on even more proudly, carefully so as not to let them down. After she had cautiously made her way down a particularly dark tunnel, she found herself by an underground river, which she followed for a while. Suddenly, she heard the sounds of a struggle a little further along the bank. She peered around a stalagmite, to see a solitary drow male contending with a strange beast. Knowing that this could be important, she dropped the gem, and Galadria was beside her, just like that. "What is it, Sefa?" she whispered, then looked as the drow found himself being borne back into the river with another of the things waiting for him. "Kuo-tai," she noted. "The drow must be injured or caught by surprise, for ususally they are no match. Well, as Drizzt suggested, let us rescue him. " Sefa watched in awe as her Mistress shot energy bolts at the two fishlike beings. As they fell, the drow looked around at his rescuers and started in surprise to see the tall, slender form of the mage with the slight, hooded figure at her side. He started to back away carefully, calling aloud in drow. Galadria simply paralysed him and made him unconscious with a spell, and they carried him back to camp. When he awoke, he was bound and surrounded by surfacers, with one large drow female speaking to him. Like the mage, he automatically looked for House insignia and found none. "Tell me, male," Chorania asked him in drow, "Who are you, and of what House?" After an unsuccessful struggle with his bonds, he spat, "Who are you, yourself? Why are you with these surfacers? Where is your House badge?" She slapped him. "As for questions, you will answer mine, first. You are bound and at my mercy. Or, rather, my Mistress' But, I shall answer when I am through. We mean you no harm, only, we seek information. Tell me, who are you?" He seemed to relax slightly at that. "I am called H'rad. I have no House. I fled the city when my mother murdered my love, just because she had not approved it. I am alone, now, and my weapons inadequate. I do not think that I shall live long." "So I once thought, too," Chorania answered more kindlily. She turned his scimitar over in her hands, noting the broken tip, leaving it useless for stabbing. "We can, in exchange for information, provide you with swords, and some armor." She threw the broken weapon contempuously aside, and drew forth an adamantine breastplate, then, after putting it down, a pair of fine scimitars, all looted from a dead noble in the doomed war patrol. The drow male looked at the weapons and armor hungrily. They could spell survival in as savage a place as the Underdark. "What do you need to know?" he asked curiously. "I am Chorania LeMeaux," she replied simply., noting with satisfaction his widened eyes. "I seek another Outsider, my brother, Calith. If you can give us information about him, so that I might find him and speak with him, you shall have these weapons and more besides. My Mistress is a generous one, and pays her adherants well. I'm sure that I need not tell you that she returns treachery with vengeance." The drow man met her eyes. "Calith LeMeaux. Yes, I have heard of him. I have met other Outsiders that say that he leads a band. I would like to join it, myself, but have never found it." Chorania smiled an evil smile, and examined one of the magnificent scimitars again. "Too bad," she answered simply. "We shall have to find another to give these fine weapons to." She pretended to bark at Odo. "You, there. Take him back to that river where we found him." She turned back to the bound drow. "You shall take a little nap, now, and will wake up where you were, little worse off, save for a few bruises." She began a spell, but he interrupted her. "Wait!" he cried. "Perhaps I do know him. But he'll be shy of meeting anyone. His,and I suppose, your, mother seeks him for Lolth." He struggled to a sitting position. "If you give me the weapons and armor, I shall be your ambassador. But, I cannot promise anything." "If you had promised," Chorania purred, "I should have been more suspicious." She untied him, and gave him the scimitars and armor. "My Mistress shall return you magically to whence you came. Take this crystal, and, when you wish to talk to me, crush it. You shall be instructed at that time. Do not waste it, for your reward for arranging a meeting with my brother shall be great. May any god that you reverence aid you." Noemi then cast Dimension Door on the drow, returning him to the riverbank. |

I'MM BAAACK:
He found himself back at that underground river, with the arms and armor in his grasp. He quickly donned the armor, and, after making several passes with the scimitars, sheathed them, and after a final look around, trotted off puposefully. In the dimness of the Underdark, he did not notice the disembodied eye that floated along behind him, dogging his every move. Galadria followed him with the eye until he came to a steep cliff. He seemed to make some signal, and a rope ladder descended to him, which he rapidly climbed. She found that the Eye could not get up the cliff. Magically warded, she assumed. Several hours passed, then Chorania suddenly sat rigidly upright. "They are calling, abbil." she said urgently. "Shall we answer? It might be a trap." "So it might," her Mistress replied, rather sourly, "but we are here on a chance. If it prove an ambush, I shall get us out, fast." She pronounced a spell that would send Chorania's semblance to the site of the signal. Chorania closed her eyes, and immediately found herself amid a group of draggled, desperate appearing drow males. She immediately recognized the one that she had sent, by his new armor. "Hail, H'rad," she proclaimed. "I have received your signal. Do you have word for me?" The drow smiled rather thinly. "Indeed, Mistress Chorania, I do. Here is the one that you seek." A drow male that had beeen rather holding back now came forward. "Calith!" she breathed. "It is indeed you." Her brother, who had been intently staring at her, replied slowly. "Yes, Chorania, it is I. But, I can tell that this is not you in the flesh. How do I know that you are not some evil phantom sent by Lolth to tempt me forth?" "You do not," she replied, dizzy with relief. Her semblance hugged him to her, and so great was Galadria's magic that she actually seemed to feel cloth beneath her hands and the muscle and bone beneath. Too much bone, she thought. She drew back and fixed him sternly in her gaze. "Calith, you are too thin. Are you not eating enough? You need more muscle if you are going to fight the drow of the city, let alone Lolth. Trust me now, as you used to. My Mistress has brought supplies and weapons for you. Will you not meet with her? She is kindly and good, my best friend, even counting you." The assembled drow laughed, rather nervously. "Truly," Calith replied, "your years on the surface have changed you, Chorania, if it indeed be you. You seem soft, and speak of trust and kindliness, not like a drow woman at all, especially not a Priestess. But, indeed, I remember our talks when we were small, and I know that you would value these things, if your Surfacer Mistress indeed offered them. "You make me envious, and, indeed, we could use these supplies that you mention. We eat less well than we would like, and our weapons are limited to what we can steal. Certainly the things that you gave H'rad are quality stuff. And, I cannot think only of myself, for we have children among us. Does that surprise you? Some female slaves escaped and joined us. So, yes, I shall meet with your Mistress, and hope that it is not a trap, or, indeed, a dream, for I have dreamt of you often, my sister. Tell her that a few of us shall meet you by the river where you took H'rad, for I dare not call more attention to this, our refuge." Chorania found herself smiling. "Yes, Calith, it shall be as you say. In an hour, then, my brother." She opened her eyes, then, and was back among her friends. "Well, Cho," Noemi asked eagerly, "how did it go? Was it your brother?" Chrania shifted her smile to the little redhead. "Indeed it was, m'zint to, and glad I was of the sight." She turned to her Mistress. "Abbil, did you hear all of that?" Galadria returned her look of delight. "Yes, indeed, Cho, and we shall be there as you said. But, first, let me set out some wards." The dark mage went aside and began casting spells.. |
Still great G. Don't forget to post a copy at once upon a paper as well (and I suggest checking out your welcome thread along the way).

hmm, something doesnt seem right... seems almost to easy... ah well, keep posting ;)

Hi, Velkyn. Hope that you think that Cho is acting more like a Drow, though not a High Priestess. BTW, I have a welcome thread?
CD, yes, you are right. ;) Some more. In the specified hour, the party was in position by the dark river bank. Odo and Attalus set up some elementary strong points and cover. Soon, a small group of drow approached them. Attalus challenged them. "Halt, strangers, and identify yourself. We await a group of dark elves. Are you them?" "We are them," returned faintly. Galadria and Chorania moved up beside the big knight. "Let the one of you known as Calith stand forth," the drow woman proclaimed. One of the drow carefully stood forward, and was startled by a mage fire over his head, showing him to be beyond doubt Calith, at least to Chorania. She ran heedlessly to him. "Oh, Calith, it is I, Chorania. Welcome and well-met." They embraced, and all relaxed their grip on their weapons. "Chorania," Calith said in a choked voice, "it is you, indeed. Is this the sign that was promised us? One to lead us against the forces of Lolth?" She finally released him. "No, I am no such leader, " she replied fondly. "My Mistress, whom you see there, is the only one here with the strength and wisdom for such an undertaking. But we have supplies and weapons! And, we shall leave means by which you can contact us, should you be sore pressed. But tell me, who has promised you a sign? Tell me more." Calith's face fell slightly. "Of her, it is not permitted to speak. If she wishes to communicate with you, doubtless she shall. But, I was letting my hope run ahead of my head, for we are too few to make headway against Lolth, be our leader never so wise and courageous. But, to see you alive and free, prosperous beyond doubt...." Here, he surveyed her, well-armored and armed, her beautiful face alight with health. He smiled again. "That restores me, not only because my sister is alive and among powerful friends, but to know that any of us can get beyond Lolth's reach. Tell me your story, my sister, so that it may be repeated by fugitive drow as long as we exist, to be a light of hope to our people." So, once again, Chorania repeated her saga, to the astonishment of Calith and his band. They shook their heads in wonderment several times, especially at her account of her injury at Lolth's agency. Several times, Galadria felt their eyes upon her, for Chorania was careful not to mention her name. She felt that they were wondering that, but she was glad that her drow friend was being so discreet. After all, some of these fugitives might prove to be spies, and she wanted no further visits from the yochol. Finally, Chorania motioned her to come over, and she translated what Calith said to her. "Abbil, Calith wants to thank you for the supplies, and for your good treatment of me," she stated, rather formally. "But, also, he wants me to tell you that he is consoled that they have allies, even if they are surfacers." She made a wry face. Galadria laughed. "Tell him that we are just glad to be of service, and that no thanks are due for my treatment of you, my very good friend. We shall try and find a way to send them more supplies, and perhaps their band shall grow. Who knows? Perhaps Lolth may yet rue their presence. Tell him also, that Lolth is not loved by the other gods, and that allies of the supernatural sort should be sought. I suppose there are no drow women among them? Oh, well, I am sure that shall happen, if they continue to survive." Chorania turned to her brother and repeated this in spitting, hissing, drow. He replied in the same language, and she translated back. "He says that he respectfully receives your advice, and will consider it. In the mean time, the supplies would be much welcomed. How to get them to him may present a problem, but he will try to think of a way. It could be as simple as leaving them in dumps that they could find. The location would be shifting, however, to prevent ambushes. It is enough for the present to get your assurances. This will hearten them all, for I fear that despair is rife among them." |
thanks for posting :D post more? pleeeeease? something BIGs gonna happen soon methinks ;) btw, post in Anti Anomen please ;) .
|
All right, this is the finale:
It was Galadria's turn to pull a grim visiage. "Tell them that despair brings nothing. Fight as long as they have breath." Once again, she recalled her despair before bringing down the roof on B'ren Naylor. She saw Noemi's face as she went down to the priestess' mace, shook her head to clear it of the memory, and looked over to where her sister lay, looking at her encouragingly. She had not missed the look of dread that had come over the dark mage. "There is always a way, if we will look." Chorania smiled at her Mistress' earnestness. "All right, abbil," she replied. " I shall tell him. Perhaps you should go sit down. You have gotten quite pale." "I am all right," Galadria replied, but she went over and sat down next to Noemi, who was also becoming concerned, but masked it in front of these strangers. After a few more words and a final embrace between Chorania and Calith, the drow packed up the supplies and stole away. Galadria stood. "Well, Cho, that should be that. Your brother is healthy, if pursued, and we have helped him to the best of our ability. We should go, now, before we disturb something else down here." Chorania went over to her and hugged her. "Yes, abbil, we should go. But I want to tell you one last time how grateful your poor servant is, that her Mistress would take this long and dangerous journey with her. I shall always be grateful." Tears flowed down her face with the intensity of her emotion. Galadria hugged her back. "Don't be silly, Cho," she answered, "you'd do it for me. That's what friends are for, as they say. Now, let's be off. Em, can you walk on that leg?" Noemi hopped up. "Sure, Gal." She grinned impudently. "I can still feel it, but I can make do, especially if the alternative would be being left down here. Let's go." They loaded all their remaining supplies and started off. They had no trouble as they trooped along the dark tunnel, but, as they entered the big cavern, they heard a horn call, and a huge mass of drow surged across the cavern, howling war cries and casting spells. "Ambush," shouted Attalus. "We'lll never make the entrance. You all run, and Odo and I shall stand them off at this passage." They stood in a narrow gap between two masses of rock. The rest took no notice of his command to run, and stood behind them, casting counterspells and knocking off leaders. Attalus and Odo fired arrows and bolts into them, too, resulting in a stop of their headlong rush, and a pause during which they began to fire a cloud of black-feathered arrows at them. Chorania felt the deep stab of regret that she had ever returned to this place, and brought her friends with her, to their apparant doom. Then, a disembodied voice floated around them. "Fools! Leave the gap at once or be crushed!" Noemi looked up and saw an avalance headed right for them. She screamed, "Run, for Tres' sake, " and grabbed Galadria's arm. Disregarding her ankle, tore toward the cave mouth, dragging her sister with her. The rest followed at a furious pace. Just as they made the entrance, the mass of rocks plugged the passage, burying several of their drow pursuers with it. As they once again regained the light, they collapsed on the ground, glancing about anxiously to make sure that all were present. At last, Cythera said timidly, "Gal, who could have done that? Was it you?" Galadria shook her head. "No, that wasn't me. It was obviously set up long before, to block the gap at need." She turned to her drow friend. "Cho, could it have been Calith? You told me that he was accustomed to use that entrance." Chorania smiled in pure relief. "Yes, abbil," she replied happily. "That was his preferred place. Of course, he would have set up something in the line of a trap in case they were hotly pursued. Only, this time it stopped his one-time comrades. How deliciously ironic! Now, I can feel that he has partially repaid us, and even Odo will admit that he was trustworthy." Odo shook his head in reply. "Cho," he said with a wry grin, "considering that I had figured to be dead by now, with my wife and all of my friends, I have nothing but good to say of Calith. I shall entertain him at Rosetree any time that he ventures to the surface. Speaking of Rosetree, let us go there, now. It is not so far, and we can rest and relax." They all cheered him, and, as soon as they had rounded up their horses, they did just that. The feast that Odo and Cythera threw was magnificent even by their standards, and that night they slept in soft beds with no fears. As she nodded off in the room that she had been assigned, huge in comparison with her chamber in the House of the Dome, Chorania reviewed the events of the day. Sleepily, she wondered if any of their pursuers would have recognized them. They could only add to the legend of the mighty Galadria, Lady of the Cave-In. With that thought in mind, she fell into a deep, satisfying sleep. THE END |
