Alson 10-17-2002 12:40 PM

just use mace of disruption( its in the same area as well )... and whack them all the way!!! if you are lucky.. every strike kills a vamp... as for Tanova.. cast breach and kill it with the mace... or you can just wait until her protective spells expire and went in for the kill...

One simple word. Fireball.
or cloudkill.
Or Incendiary cloud.
Or death fog.
Or Anything related

A little bit of trivia. The Tanova in Chapter 3 is not classified as an Undead in the game code, so stuff like Protection from Undead scrolls and Mace of Disruption will not work effectively against her.

Well, there's one thing you can get early in the game, which does work very well against undead - Azuredge, throwing axe. Oh boy, I have had much fun with it. It's just too funny to walk to some lich, hear their "cryptic" speech, where they promise a house of pain and what not else, then the fight starts, my char just swings his arm once and... BLAM! Dead sucker, who's triggers and whatever else are still going off :D

Of course, it's not a key to "everlasting dominion over undeads", as they still can roll against it - albeit with a penalty - and get away. From that one hit, that is, next time wont be as lucky. But, pack it with you and let it fly at times, it can make things much easier.

Alas, as before with the Mace of Disruption. Tanova does not suffer from the Instant-Death ability of Azuredge. This is in Chapter 3. The best and easiest way to deal with Tanova is to send in summons in pairs. Start with the Kobolds first, then progress to the better summons as she waste her spells on the lousier ones.

My memory is fuzzy on whether she is properly labelled as an Undead in Chapter 6.

</font>
Does she come back in Chapter 6? I thought she, Lassal, and Gessel were "staked" in Chapter 3, which precipitates Bodhi's appearance.

I agree with Dundee here about the tactics, though. Use summons, and True Sight. Send the summons in at her so she can waste spells on them, and run True Sight in the background so that all her Mislead and Mirror Image spells are shot.

My tactic this time(granted, I was pretty high level: Anomen at 18th level, Keldorn at 13th, myself (wild mage) at 15th): I had Anomen summon a Skeleton Warrior and send at her, while Keldorn ran True Sight out of her LoS. Unfortunately, the skell died before it took her down, so I took Jonovan (my character) and Keldorn in. Keldorn cast "Dispel Magic" which took down her last remaining protection, as Jonovan cast "Magic Missile"...bam, dead Tanova. :D

Hence the fuzzy memory. I just had a recollection just now though. All the Vampires in Chapter 6 are chunkable through Turn Undead( except Bodhi of course), so that implies that if Tanova is around, she is properly labelled as Undead.

Hence, only in Chapter 3 is she not labelled as an Undead.

LOL, I know what you mean, Dundee!! Fuzzy memory for me, too, and I just played through Chap 3 this weekend...the vamp's name is "Gellal", not "Gessel"...LOL!!

From what I remember, you have to stake 3 vamps in Chapter 3 and 3 in Chapter 6. In Chapter 3, it's Gellal, Tanova, and Lassal. In Chapter 6, it's Del, Valen, and Hareishan.

The hoot of it, is that in Chapter 2-3, when you encounter Del (she's the one pursuing the shadow thief in one of the night encounters), she's a "she", but in Chapter 6, Del is a HE! I guess there's hee-shee vampires, or else ol' Del must have tried on a Girdle of Gender Changing while you were vacationing in "Club Underdark".
