Re: Combat Set Template?

Hmm. I've been testing the outdoor combat with a set that identifies each tile for movement rate and location and I have not seen this. I'll look some more and if I see it, I'll post a a bug.
Are you using version .913?

Re: Combat Set Template?

Hmm... I think I am using the newest version (there haven't been any updates since I started DC, right? ;) )... but I will check.

Incidentally, I have only noticed this problem twice (or maybe thrice), so it is not very easy to find. (Next time maybe I will take a screenshot.)

Re: Combat Set Template?

I have done maybe 25 or 30 outdoor combats in the last two days, and I haven't seen it yet...

I asked about the version b/c I'm using the unreleased beta. :D

BTW, I saw your wilderness- looking good so far. We were thinking very much alike. I am doing two versions- one that is close in color to yours to represent shallow waters and one that is darker for deep waters. I have been looking at pictures of brain coral for one of my blockages, but hadn't actually drawn it yet. I'm motivated now since yours turned out so well. :) I will try and post them in my undersea icon thread just so you can see my color schemes...

Re: Combat Set Template?

Ha ha... Maybe the unreleased beta has it fixed? Anyway, I do combats to check my new icons/spells fairly often, and wasn't trying to search for the bug... I just saw it twice/thrice coincidentally.

Re: combat set... Actually, making these is kind of interesting, as we can learn all sorts of things about coral, undersea life, etc.... :D The brain coral actually looks a bit too yellow (and it is huge, so sticks out weirdly, I think); the greenish one is the new palette (the yellow one was the original). The dark-colored pillar-things are actually pillar coral... ;) Not much out there to draw that is 12' high to substitute for the trees... Actually, this wilderness set was done rather haphazardly (as I want results right away!)...

One problem with deep water is that we can color it darker - but the icons themselves will still be normal color (and stick out quite a bit)... Hmm...

By the way, in the link that you gave (about adding rivers to combat), they mentioned a underwater combat checkbox that was forgotten about in FRUA or something like that?

Anyway, looking forward to see your combat set! :)

Re: Combat Set Template?

I am also learning a lot about undersea life, but I'm forgetting it just about as fast. :)

Deeper water: I've realized that not only is everything darker, but it is generally murkier unless you are talking about extreme depths. This set will have to wait, as all of the obstacles are too light and need recolored for the deep. But, thinking of doing that made me realize I could just recolor the icons used for "deep water" versions. I could either leave the PC icons alone and not worry about the minor incoongruity that the majority of players would not even notice, or if I know that this will be a section in my design, I can make darker PC icons to be used for these combats.*

I'm almost done with the rough version of my shallow water combat wilderness... :) I'll post an in use screenshot when I'm done; but I don't think I'll post it until I have a chance to make it a final version, 'cause I know that if I post it here or somewhere else, I probably will never finish it. :D

Re: Combat Set Template?

Yeah, we could make darker icons - that works for monsters - but PCs would have to manually switch their icons themselves, which doesn't work so well for us, I guess. But yeah, it's also just harder to make a deep water set, I guess (I think I will just put that off for a looong time).

Looking forward to seeing your combat set! :D But what happened to your site?! It's goooone...

Re: Combat Set Template?

There was a reason I added an * before. :) If we make multi-frame ions (I mean more than two frames, but in powers of two) we can have the logic block switch to frames three and four for a combat. Okay, this is what CocoaSpud and SilentThief tell me. I've not actually succeeded...but in my defense, I haven't tried for a while. :D

My site? It's down for an overhaul. But, it might not be going back up at that address. Every time I log in to work on it, there is some new ad scheme that they are running. In the file manager screen, there are even more ads than when you visit the site. (I know, hard to beleive.) Plus, they have started with the pop-ups occassionally, and while my browser blocks them automatically, I'm loathe to inflict those upon any would be viewers. I just have to figure out what my next move is. It's hard to find a free site without any ads...even with only small word (google) ads...

Re: Combat Set Template?

Hey, that's pretty cool - do they say that you can change those within combat, too? If so, we could do something like Air Elemental changes to tornado form kind of thing... Not sure, though (would need to know before trying!).

As for your site - yeah, free site options are pretty bleak. My site is pretty nice, though - 30 MB, completely free, instant registration (no e-mail verification), no ads, unlimited bandwidth. The only problem is the afore-mentioned 7 day no-hit instant site disappearance problem :D

manikus 10-14-2007 09:21 AM

Re: Combat Set Template?

From my understanding of it, the change would need to be outside of combat, as it takes a logic event to do it, though I suppose if you had something that called the event while in combat it might work.

Every 7 days? Sheesh, that seems like a lot pressure. :) Does it count if you visit the site yourself?

Re: Combat Set Template?

Sure, which is basically how I managed to keep it alive up until now (even without forcing myself, with the updates and such I do access the site quite often).

I mean, at the beginning (before I added the DC part), who was visiting my site besides me? :D
