I remember that... vaguely.
But for all the blurred detail I've no doubt it was great fun :)
Pity they stopped EQ to design EQ2 only to never finish, too. That game was also amusing.
Possibly Bob the Battle Armadillo made his way into my sig during that time and has lurked there ever since.

In any case, thanks for the answers. I suppose I'll weave the captain's flight record into the background once we get one. For my own character's role I'm thinking Operations, perhaps Science, although I have to say the Commando also sounds like an interesting chap to have around. I'll re-edit the first post with the details once I make up my mind :)

Edit - of course, now I'm wondering if being a fighter pilot mightn't be fun. It's never so simple as you'd hope...

Ethnic Origin: Unknown

“Aesthetically, she is pleasing to the eye and has a quick wit, sharp tongue and a sense of humour that generally appeals ot others. Her track record is excellent and there is little that can be faulted about her.”

Biography

Despite the official report, Uytio appears to be more than what she is. Her “official biography” is brief: she took basic training and enlisted with the Terran Federation. She quickly rose through the most basic ranks, surpassing her fellow cadets and ensigns but that is where she seemed to stop: as a weapon’s specialist, specifically a sniper.

In addition, she has recently taken secondary training for piloting. Due to her sharp reflexes, she has been told she will one day make an excellent ‘dogfighter’ and so, has put many hours into training in simulators for various ships in the hopes of climbing the career ladder. Specifically, she is interested in fighter craft, but she has yet to actually achieve a rank in this. Versatility and flexibility are key.

Spoiler for “Unofficial Biography”:
However, that is only the official biography. Unofficially, she has a somewhat darker past. Nothing overly cliché, but she is an assassin and sharpshooter, in addition to being a thief and a hacker.

In brief, she was a thief before she was caught at age fifteen and should have been faced with the choice of execution or service. However, she was a minor, so she was placed within a ‘rehabilitation’ programme – which is to say, a military academy for delinquents. Given a second chance at life that most convicts never have, after three years she ‘graduated’ and was conscripted and placed within the regular military as a cadet. She would face five years of service and then be let loose with a warning – and a location chip inside her.

Instead, Uytio chose to continue with her military career. A semi-experienced hacker from her days as a technology-thief, she requested a transfer into the technology department and was approved. She served her five years, and surpassed the expectations set of her commanding officer. Impressed by her enthusiasm, she became his ‘star model’; a reformed juvenile criminal who proved the system can and did work.

When the time for her release came, she refused much to her commanding officer (who held the dual role of being her parole officer and overseer)’s pleasure. A further year passed and her promotion was at hand. Then disaster struck, as it always seems to. Rioting broke out upon the world due to a lack of food – the same reasons Uytio was forced into her life thieving. Unlike her childhood, the rioters began a rebellion and formed a militia, taking up arms against the military. One of their targets was the garrison she lived in.

The technology department Uytio was in was torched; the rioting crowd stormed it and burnt it, and most of the garrison to the ground. Typically, her commander should have been slain, but by some perverse twist of fate, he was not, but escaped with severe burns – and his life. Uytio was luckier, but she found herself lost and alone again. With the garrison seemingly dead and no one to turn to, she had to use her wits to survive for the next five months while order was re-established. Physically cut off and unable to turn herself in due to the constant rioting, she took to stealing technology again – this time, the rebels. Falling back on her skills proved to be a wise choice and two weeks into the riots, she sent anonymous relays back to the main government headquarters and incredibly enough, her commander recognised her ‘signature’ and began to rely on her. When the riots had been put down, she returned ‘home’ and was greeted with a warm welcome – and a promotion to a special operation unit. She was to be ‘rewarded’ for her valour by being trained by their very best – as a commando and spy.

For the next three years, she trained with them until disaster struck again. The rebels had regrouped and this time successfully stormed the government headquarters. Within the space of a day, the ruling order had fallen and her commander besides. With nothing left, she left the planet and infiltrated the Terran Federation. At least they had food.

Those are quite the backgrounds. I'm pleased to say they are both perfecly acceptable. Calaethis: due to your characters background, she is capable of piloting Federation Fighters. But because she lacks formal training, it is unlikely she wil ever be allowed to fly missions. Her skills also lag behind those of regular pilots.

Ivelliis: too bad you're dropping out. Feel free to apply for a smaller 'guest-role' any time. ;)

I'm glad; I was afraid you'd think it was too stereotypical and disallow it.

Sounds good =).

Btw, do we ever get to upgrade skills in this game or are we stuck with what we have?

Re: [OOC]Dystopia: The Fallen Angels (sign up here)

My friend, you can be as stereotyical as you like, as long as your background doesn't conflict with the setting. ;)
Upgrading your stats and skills is possible, but don't expect it to be easy. If you spend considerable time practicing one thing or the other, your skills in this area will gradually improve. But to get a secondary skill (a skill that is not a part of the original build) at the level of a primary, you'll probably have to re-enroll at the Academy on New Terra, and that would take you out of the game for a few years. :P These things are difficult for a reason, since I don't want a large group of 'generalists' running around. Making choices and specialising are important parts of the game. When faced with the limitations of your character, you can always call upon the NPC's. Luckily, raising all your stats will be somewhat easier.
On another note, we'll launch the plot when there are four characters ready to go. Until that time, you're free to have your characters explore the ship. The main thread has already been posted.
Naturally, it'll be possible for other people to join up at virtually any time. Also, be adviced to keep an eye on your PM-box during the game. I'll send you information that comes in at your 'terminal'. Don't worry if you miss something, if the information is plot critical, I'll have on of your less competent NPC underlings mention it. Although they will never preform quite as well as a human player with the same profession and rank.

Re: [OOC]Dystopia: The Fallen Angels (sign up here)

What's the make-up of the crew? As I gather there's one captain, one CAG, CTO, CMO and Chief of Operations (whatever the abbreviations stand for :)), overseeing a number of squadron leaders/sergeants/doctors/chief engineers, which in turn lead still more pilots/helmsmen/corporals/medics/engineers/tech officers. How many of what are there, and is there additional crew such as, say, undecorated soldiers, cooks and cleaners?

Also, what ships are present in the launchbay, and does that open up to the front or the back of the ship?
