Hey Mem's

Just sent an email down to the Tech Support manangers for Asia Pacific (great guys I've worked with them before)

Will let you know when I get something back.

I dropped Norton when I got Vista. The updates don't work well and there wasn't any update for works '06. ( I still have/had some subscription time for that) Using Kaspersky now.

Just bought a new PC. One of the first things I did was uninstall the Norton suite it came with and get my trusty old Zone Alarm/AVG combo back :D

P.S. Windows Defender is not a bad bit of software either....

I feel for you, TDC. All these people blasting Norton (directly or indirectly)... here's a round on me

Cheers thanks mate!

BTW the Vista compatible versions are now released. Anyone with a 2007 copy can get the vista release if needed.

Tim, I think I'll have to uninstall it and reinstall it again as it's still happening - it has some problem when it tries to scan my external drive (though it didn't before). It also has an issue with my VPN - when I log off my VPN now it crashes my system and has a problem with ccsvchost.exe (again, didn't happen before). The problem is, when I uninstall it, I don't think it fully uninstalls because when I reinstall the problem keeps recurring. Do you know how to totally wipe it, so I can start all over again with a clean install?

There is normally a complete uninstall tool available online. I will try and track it down for you as I can't only find the rnis tool for 2005 and below.

Best bet for starters is to uninstall it in safe mode.

Hey mems,

Do you want to PM me your contact details (email or phone) I sent your request off to one of our senior engineers who is going to have one of the techs look into it. he hasn't seen this issue before so he would like to work it out.

Hey mate, sorry I've been busy with interviews - I'll PM you my contact info if the offer's still open. Basically, I've managed to narrow it down to the fact that NIS 2007 doesn't like my VPN. I can get the VPN to work by unticking the "Stealth Blocked Ports" in the Options page, but what happens is that if I leave my VPN connection active and then disconnect it after a period of time, I end up with a systems error and my system shuts down. I tested this by uninstalling NIS and running the VPN - I had no problems.

I checked the Symantec site and they recommend that I upgrade to the Windows Vista compatible version but the upgrade site is constantly not available (I used IE7 and after installing the ActiveX control to upgrade the site redirects me to an OpenDNS search page).

Anyway, if you want to tell the engineer that the problems are:

1. NIS compatibility with my VPN
2. issues with (clean) uninstalling NIS2007

Cheers mate!
