Easy for y'all to say! Compared to most, I'm pretty Internet ignorant. I've heard of Gmail but that's about it.
I do have a hotmail account I ceated well over a year ago. I have no idea how to even check it.
I really do like Thunderbird though.

why do oeople even do the spam thing? Is it just their sick way of torturing us?

They actually believe:
1 spam advertisement works
2 someone will be dumb enough to do as the stock suggestion email says
3 someone will be dumb enough to give them their credit card number and PIN
4 some contain trojans, loggers, viruses and the like

People do it because in the hundreds of millions of people on this earth, there are still those who are too foolish to realize that spam and scam are just one small step from each other.

If they reach those, they win. And it's common for the largest spammers to pull in six-figure incomes from this crapola.

Never ever give that to anybody other than your trusted computer savy friends that will not forward you junk e-mails, or chain letters etc.. In addition, never use that e-mail in a public domain, internet registration, or any service related contact information. Lastly, get your self a good fake web based e-mail account. One that you do not care about, and give it out. Use their "Spam" feature, and let it go.

Three years from now you should still not have any SPAM in your real e-mail account.</font>

I agree, did that myself and found out I'd rather delete 2-3 spams daily (just using common sense ensures you won't get more spam than that) than apply those restrictions on myself.
To each his won though. Felix's suggestion is sound.

The strange thing with this email though, is that there's nowhere to click on to buy anything. No link to get you to buy stuff. It seems like you have to call a local broker or something. Maybe they're behind the whole thing!?!?!?

your local broker? I doubt it I've been getting the mail too.

Yeah, the dummy email account didn't work out for me.

I had my real account, I didn't use this one to register, I didn't give it to anyone shady, it was safe from spam.

Then I had the other one, I used it to register on all my forums, games, etc. People only saw that one so that's what they used.
