Yep, TDC is on the right track. You need to log into your router and open up those ports (usually by creating firewall rules, but get back to me on what kinda router you have and I'l be more specific).

Also, you then need to set up a static IP address for yourself, so that the ports are always forwarded to you. Again, let me know the router brand and model number and I'l get back to you on this.

And, as a general rule, especially for your connection speed, I'd cap upload speed at >20kb/sec. You'l see an increase in download speed that way when you actually get it working.

You can't be prosecuted for running a programme, providing it doesn't break patent laws etc.

The law will not lock a person up, but a person can be sued, and it may be that the prosecuters would "try" to go after Ziroc (they would not win, but it would still cost him if he had to prove his case in court) for allowing information of file sharing to be had on his website...therefore I have a duty to protect this website from anything that could potentially harm its reputation or service.

I do not care if they are legal or not...I only care about whether or not it can be discussed on IW, which in the past we've been told "not allowed". If there is an update to the rules, I have not been told, so I have to stick with that "not allowed" as the answer until the webmaster says otherwise. Again, I have not locked this thread because I have reason to believe that we're okay at the moment,,,,but not when gnutella, kazaa and stuff starts getting brought up. I hope we don't have to go down that road again. We did that a few years ago already on IW. People were banned on their first hour of posting when they took things in the wrong direction.

Since IW is a US-based website, it has to abide by US law, regardless of anyone else from other countries posting here. Your posting here makes your post US property since Ziroc owns the site and your words belong to his website. If your posts are illegal, then IW is hosting illegal stuff and we'll have trouble with crazy lawyers that want enough money to buy a bigger yacht.

Wow... Erm... Sorry guys... I just assumed it would be fine, as I know p2p programs by themselves are not illegal. I deliberately didn't mention what I download... So erm... Feel free to lock the thread I guess.

SOrry to put you to the trouble Larry :D

Yeah, no worries Larry - I thought you wanted a more general explanation of the legal issues - my post wasn't intended to challenge your original post but simply to be informative. Obviously as a moderator you're perfectly entitled to enforce the relevent rules/laws as you see fit

Really?

Hey, what ever happened to the good ol' days when we'd all get into a cussing war and you all would have your friends from other websites join IW just to verbally force me to publically apologize, and the other mods would come in and tell me that I need to shut up for a while?

I'm quite shocked about the lack of it all. I think I need to go lay down.

Oh, well...since you put it that way...

BTW...Unofficially, I hope you at least learned what you needed to from the above posts to get things to work.
