The NJ series is of course vastly inferior to their custom-made beauties, but I didn't have $2-3k laying around.


Props on the lute though! Those are so cool. You've got to wrap your mind around 14 strings though, right?

And aye, same problem there Ross, the Rickies are not cheap. They do have that great Chris Squire/Geddy Lee tone though.

Considering to buy a Thunderbird pretty soon. Rickenbacker 4003 (isn't it?) would be the ideal bass, but it's so goddamn expensive...

Haha, I don't really have one, it was an amusing (ahem) reference to Morrowind. You bloody non-Morrowind players, not getting my jokes!

No Burnzey, it's the prog-rock basses, but yeah the Rickenbacker electrics are common among old hippies I've noticed lol. I played with one :D

Ya caught me Brayf lol. Though I nearly beat Morrowind, it's so big I guess it's easy to miss or forget things.

I've heard decent things about the Thunderbird, Sir Exxon, but I haven't laid my hands on one. I did get to play around with a Ricky though, even though at the time I didn't know what I was doing.

With the warlock, it's got ups and downs. Talking only about the NJ, ups include awesome tone, very thin neck, surprising range, holds string tune for months on end, and of course, looking cool. It's ideally suited for speed in a range between jazz and 180 bpm, 16th note-pounding death metal, due to both the percussive punch of playing a string and the thin neck. And I've played that range lol.

I limit the downs to slightly above average weight and neck-dive, which drove me crazy for awhile but I came to accept, for lack of a good local luthier. This means it's not the easiest bass to play since you've got to adjust yourself to it or sit down to play it. I haven't played anything comparable with my style in that price range ($450 for a 5 string).

The guitars rarely have the neck dive issue - the bass's issue was probably an afterthought of reusing the body for much longer instruments than electric guitars. Mine is four feet long. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Best instrument I ever had was a Moore #3 based CMM... could repeatably position to the nanometer range, had sub arcsecond rotations, and was accurate to fractional microns over a 25" x 12" x 15" envelope. What an instrument that was!

Oh wait... you guys are talking about MUSICAL instruments!

Well then... I think I had a cool Kazoo once...

I've an ol' heavy Canora Bass, which is practically a Fender copy. I started with a black Samick, but swapped it with a mate because it didn't have the 70's vibe I was after! ;) Plus the Canora has a much warmer, more naturalistic tone and general aesthetic to it. Ideally, I'd love an EB Gibson, just so I can strike more Jack Bruce poses! [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I had a pretty sweet oscilloscope the other day, but I didn't get to use it much.

Best musical instrument...hmmm...I guess that trumpet I had for a while counts, though You'll never hear me say "I can play the trumpet."

Hey man, there is nothing wrong with a BC Rich Warlock. That's what I'm using, it beats my Fender Squier acoustic.
