Because I've been meaning to do it for years.

Because I'm not aiming for a big name.

I think all tree would better suit a female forest elf, but if you're sure about it, whatever. In my own and non-english opinion, seeing names like "Antti" as quite normal, I think Juno is best.

Would you be so kind as to tell us your present first name? Also, why do you want such a weird name, call yourself John and you'l fit in just fine.

Ok, fair enough.

But why do you want to change your name to something which, in your society, is certain to attract attention on a daily basis?

By choosing a flashy name it seems that maybe you're interested in redefining yourself. To be honest, I don't think there's anything wrong with a person trying to redefine themself; people do it all the time, in different ways: changing hair colour, tattoos, moving to a new place, etc.

But if you want to redefine yourself--or the way others see you--maybe you should examine the reasons for it.

Anyway, just a thought. I mean no offense. On a similar topic, ever heard of a firefighter named Optimus Prime?

I'm impressed that old Icelandic distinguishes between different animal urines. What, pray tell, is dog urine?

I'm concerned that if you can't settle on a name you really want and are going through such things as asking strangers on a forum what we think, that you may not be happy with your new name for a long period of time. There have been many times in my life that I heard names that I thought were really cool or pretty or much better than my real name but if I had changed my name to them I would now be unhappy because I no longer feel the same way towards them. I think that would be particularly the case with a really unusual name.

Q'alooaith 04-09-2005 05:12 PM

I'm asking what you strangers think of them, like sticking your toe into the sea to see if it's too cold.
