He meant united - except in football obviously :D . At least that's the way I interpreted it Yorick. Good to see you back on deck Donut - things have been dull without you ;) .

Things have sucked without Donut son of Donut. Or the Dublin Grocer. :(

There is good reason why they will never do this. UEFA might decide that those four nations should not have their own associations and force them to compete as GB in the World Cup and European Championships.

Though things are differant now just think what a United Kingdom team could have done in the late 80's with I. Rush up front and N.southall in the nets? Maybe it would be a good idea?

Don't you have a government sporting body that could form a UKFA? It seems ridiculous that so many olympics with football have occured, and Britain are still missing out. How hard is it? What about the British Olympic governing body? Just form a UKFA solely to handle Olympic games selections.

Not hard.

But maybe British football is like American Baseball. Held to ransom by the clubs? What say you?

Donut 09-01-2004 02:07 PM

The problem is that the 4 nations want to keep their own identity. UEFA has threatened to count them as one in the past. We don't wan't to tempt fate.

Nothing to do with the clubs.

Yorick 09-01-2004 02:32 PM

Why have they threatened to count them as one in the past? Why do they want to keep their own identity in Football, but not the Olympics? Do Scotland and Wales play Cricket btw?

I'll field that one

For some time now they have been called the England and Wales cricket board. I believe Scotland and Ireland have there own boards.

footnote... Haven’t England (and Wales) been doing well at the cricket recently! Maybe we will have a return to 5 day test matches come the Ashes ;)

Davros 09-02-2004 05:26 AM

5 day tests - let's not bet too optimistic Wellard - we will be happy if they improve enough to last 4 days though.

I'm looking forward to seeing Harmyipson and his unusual runup again... :D
