I'm cancelling my DDO account. I played the first bit and got to Stormwind. I like the look, the feel, the interface needs some work, but 5 mins of moving it around made it look almost like WOW.

The problem is NO SOLO CONTENT. Now, I appreciate trying to get away from grinding games -- skip to the end of the dungeon == same XP, and all that. Good idea. I hate the grind that is WOW, really.

But, you MUST have solo content. And a world to run around in and explore.

Because it had neither of those things, this game was in fact NOT like D&D.

Well timber depends on your view of D&D. I played in a fun successful campaign that was nothing but delves into undermountain over and over again. Seeing the same things maybe a different monster was part of that game.

I enjoyed it I had fun I didn't need to have a world to run around in and explore.

I think a lot of peoples problems with DDO came from their expectations of what the game was going to be or should've been. I followed developement of the game from day 1 I knew that the game was going to be instanced the way it was and that it was going to be centered on one city with no real exploration. I knew about the changes that would be made and know a bit about whats to come through being lucky enough to talk with some of the devs and Keith Baker right after his visit with the Dev team.

Though again as I've said this game is not going to be for everyone just like any other MMO or even any other game for that matter. We're not all fans of FPS or RTS heck some of us aren't huge fans of NWN but prefer the style of ToEE so to each their own.

Well in my opinion, what's hurting them is that they don't have time cards. There are plenty of people that use time cards. They cut themselves up from a big chunk of potential players because of that.

Hopefully this will be the end of all the MMO hysteria that is sooo going on right now. All hysterias should (in a perfect world and all that) end so people could concentrate on making good and in some way revolutionary or at least something that is better then previous versions.

Right now I am not playing GW but playing Oblivion and it feels good to get back into a deep and big game like this. I also installed Arcanum awhile ago and it did take some time to get used to the crappy graphics but after awhile I was hooked again. Graphics are nice, no question about it, but the best games are best thanks to something else then just graphics.

Thanks for the review Ziroc! You saved me some hours there! ;)

Well, after seeing this thread, I'm rather glad my husband said he didn't want to get into DDO! Nothing kills a game faster for us than heavy lag and lack of content/things to do! I don't mind not having tons of solo quests, because I like team play, but it would be nice to have SOME ability to wander around on one's own.

Thanks for the reviews and comments, everyone!

Found this on another forum:
Quote:

To compare DDO content to WoW, imagine if the level cap for WoW at release was level 10 or so and the game launched without PvP, crafting, or a raid encounter. Then imagine leveling speed was 20x slower, so you had to grind the same goddamn newbie quests over and over and over again. The entire size of the game is Tirisfal glades, but that doesn't matter because theres 130 'world dungeons' sized instances which are about as large as the random cave systems spread around WoW. Then imagine a month later everyone you knew quit playing and you spent half your time online LFG, because you can't solo in the game. That's about where DDO is right now.

Shit, the RAMP up to Ironforge is larger than the entire city in DDO. lol. That is crazy.

TheCrimsomBlade 04-27-2006 01:14 AM

I beta tested the game and alot of the people the first three weeks of beta were really into the game.
I thought it may be a pretty good game but on the 4th week I got really sick of picking mushrooms and busting boxes and climbing up a ladder to twist a knob so I could climb back down again and run across some dungeon and CRAP is what I really wanted to say. The game is pure CRAP The damn agreement I signed at the beginning said I couldn't state my opinion to anyone that wasn't regestered with the Beta so I just quit playing after the 4th week. I couldn't say This is the worst game I have ever played to anyboby but their forums but when I did the next day when I would go back to see if anybody else had any reply the topic would be gone. Tha ass hats didn't want to even think about or hear that their game was pure CRAP not worth $5.00 let alone 50 plus a monthly fee.
What I really want to know is what happened to the D&D that we all grew up with because DDO wasn't even close. Baldur's Gate was and in fact still is at least 10 times better in the D&D multi-player class of games than DDO could ever be.
one last Rant who was the stupid ass that put the Priest healers in the Bars?? That had to be one stupid Idiot that thought that up. That is next to the meat head that thought up the story plot for the whole damn game.

Yep. Just take a look at the DDO General forum right now http://www.ddo.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37

Over 3/4 of the threads there are about people being unhappy with the game.
