I never liked the Mortal Kombat series much although the second one was okay. At that time Street Fighter II had much more depth, it was alot better! Although I had to wait for along time for it to come out on Sega's Mega Drive...

Best 2D? I dunno...
Best 3D? Either Super Smash Bros Melee, or Soul Calibur 2...

I haven't played it yet, but from what I've seen, I'd say Soul Calibur II. Other than I don't know, I don't usually play beat 'em up games, I'm more of an RPG player.

Am I the only person on Earth who likes DOA's fighting system? I mean it's great! It's a system of counters and counter-counters and counter-counter-counters... I mean fights can go on for ages + It's got some really ... um... Well rendered characters

I hate 3d fighters because it's all about countering and nothing about attacking yourself. It's all defense, which is just plain boring to me. Also, 3d fighters tend to lend themselves to be heavily unbalanced. FOr example, Maxi (I call him Tampon) will always have an edge over Astaroth in Soul Caliber games, because Astaroth is not built to be able to handle someone so quick.

For me, Guilty Gear X2 is hands-down the best. HANDS-DOWN. It's very fast but not so fast as to overwhelm you, the moves are not necessarily hard to pull off but learning how to link combos through moves is (in other words, it's not skill to pull off moves, but skills how to utilize everything right), and all the things you can do through the tension guage are great and hard to master (overdrives, dead-angle attacks, faultless defense, roman cancels, blah blah blah...). And need I mention how sweet the characters and story are? I totally dig the whole 80's rock theme to everyone. I mean, come on! How can you not like a guy named Axl Rose that happens to look uncannily like a very young Axl Rose?!

Plus, the soundtrack is probably one of my favorite soundtracks EVER, let alone for a video game.

BTW, why was this thread created? I already had it going in the gaming section of the forum (where this belongs).

Deja Vu: Although Street Fighter II is more nostalgic, Tekken wins it hands down ... End Deja Vu

2D-Capcom Vs SNK 2/King of the fighters 98

3D-Soul Calibur 2...BAR NONE!

Soul Calibur II for the newer systems (probably the best one out there, with tekken right up there...GO YOSHIMITSU!!). But for SNES and the earlier systems this game called "Rage" with dinosaurs and Urth was pretty kickass too...Brings back the good memories
