No. I can give you a Two-Handed Sword that dealt +1000 Fire/Acid/Lightning/Cold damage, and it will not even touch the Clay Golem.

So long as the weapon is ineffective, it will not harm the Clay Golem. He most probably mistook a Stone Golem to be a Clay Golem.
