1 year imprisonment. Counseling. Another year, working with rape victoms. Back in prison for 5, if she ever has a gun agian.

hmm, why did she drive by three times? Was she pissed that she didn't hit anyone or did she just want to make her statement clearer?

Nonetheless atleast 2 years and counceling after that, but she'll probably get less punishment.

Dunno really. The article in the paper said she wanted to go back and do some more damage. But since she only did $500 total damage to the building, my guess is that she completely missed the first time (due to nerves), or just hit the wall (which wouldn't do much actual damage).

This is just speculation, but if she didn't hit a window or the door or mailbox - there really wouldn't be much "evidence" of her attack at all. A 12 gauge shotgun is powerful, but it still won't do diddly squat to a brick wall.

She DID want to make a statement against abortion and DID want to do it by causing damage to the building.....but she also made sure she did it at a time when no people would be harmed.

She has been charged with one midemeanor count of damage to real property and is being held on $50,000.00 bond. Here is a link to the story.

Since it's premeditated, it's no less that 5-7 years in jail with 4 years probation.

I personally HATE people like this. FORCING their views on others with violence, which is appalling. I hope she gets the full 7 years.

Well, I still say if she truly believed in what she was doing she wouldn't have turned herself in - live to gun another day and all that.

I think it's wannabe martyrdom gone rampant.

I hope she gets the maximum the law allows. How did she know someone wouldn't go walking by as she's shooting at the building and come between the bullet and the building? I don't care which side of the abortion debate you're on, violence is never a way to get your message across. Gotta agree with a previous post, I see no difference between this woman shooting up a clinic to get her point across and what Bin Laden's group is doing to get their point across. The only major difference is that she, thankfully, only damaged a building, and didn't kill any innocents, but as far as the thinking of being violent will get one's point across, it's the same in my mind. Maybe not as horrible, but still a dangerous path to go down.

I think it was more of an impulse decision on her part. I first heard about this case on Friday morning, because she is from my hometown and was a nurse at the hospital where I used to work. Chances are - I actually know this lady. The name sounds familiar - I just can't picture her face. I've searched the Asheville paper and TV website looking for a picture, but haven't come across one yet.

Ziroc - I also abhor those who try to force their views on others. I saw a clip several years ago of a protest at an abortion clinic where the protesters laid down in front of a van trying to get in. This was a full sized van (not a minivan) with a lot of ground clearance. The drive realized this, and proceeded to drive over the legs of the first two protestors - you wanna talk about somebody abandoning their cause in a hurry. The rest of the protestors made like the Red Sea and the van was able to proceed unhindered (and the two "speed bump" protestors were not seriously injured. No broken bones....just a couple of big bruises and perhaps a bit of wisdom about not doing that anymore).

harleyquinn - It would actually be very easy to make sure there are no innocent passersby. First of all, there aren't going to be many people strolling down the street between 12-3am. Second of all, she could easily have pulled into the parking lot and either gotten out of her car or just fired out her window. Either way, it would be very easy to make sure nobody is about to walk in front of you AND to make sure none of the pellets from the shotgun will go past the building.

It would be easy, except that as you said in your first post, she was shooting while driving by, so she was putting others at risk, albiet a very small one given the time, there are people out walking at that time, so I stand by my statement of her being lucky that no one happened to walk by at the same time she was driving by pulling the trigger.
