why get cable when you have DSL?? You wont notice any real speed increase.

Sorry Luvian, my mistake.

Well not really, I do it as it is quicker to type. And when you have as many forums to visit as I have, in the small time I have, you cut your words down. Just to prove I'm not lying, I studied A/S English, as well as getting excellent grades in Eng Lit and Lang at school.

uncapped cable is faster than DSL... It also depends on how close you are to the switch for DSL. You could easily get a faster connection with DSL if you live close to the switch than cable.

When you live in a heavy cable user area the speed difference is dramatic. When I had a cable connection the fastest download speeds I ever got were around 30 kps unless I wanted to download after 2:00 AM. The average now that I have DSL is 135 kps. In my area they cost the same but with DSL my download speed is 5 times faster. I do admit that once, during the school year, on a school night, on a Tuesday at 3:30 in the morning my cable connection did give me a download rate over 200. I think I'll stick to DSL and get some sleep.

Probably because he has Verizon DSL.

EDIT>Cable can be way quicker than DSL, usually DSL caps out at 128kBps (at least around here) - however this depends on the speed/efficiency of the ISPs servers. Also, cable is a shared connection which means that the more users in a given area, the slower it is.

The advantage of DSL is that it is an unshared connection, but slows down with distance from the switch.

I've had download speeds on the order of 500kBps when accessing local servers, but that's unusual.
