There are exceptions of course, and it is a lot more complex that it seems. You have to add in initiative, surprise attacks, feats, immunities and resistances, etc. I've tried being a DM once, and I failed horribly. When you do manage to find some people to play with, try to be as diverse as possible. I've played 2 characters, going to be 3 in a few days, and I've played a different race and class each time. (Hmm.. dwarf fighter the first run through, human sorceress the second, and halfling rogue this time coming up) All in all, have fun. hey cav, r u going to play in forgotten realms or one of the modules for regular d&d??? if u are playin in forgotten realms then u will have a good idea where things are and stuff in that world.. dont forget to help out your dm if he/she doesnt kno much bout that world and its customs...
