Smeagol was also a ring bearer for a long time. He killed his friend when he found the ring. Its all in the books.

And he does look like Grima in that pic.

Hehe. This reminds me of the split personality scene from Two Towers.(very funny) LOL. He does look like that freak wormtongue

Exxon is right. If i remember, at one point, Gandalf actually describes Smeagol as coming "from a people not too unlike [Frodo] in appearance.

He wasn't a hobbit, but was something similar.

*scans The Hobbit for clues

in one part of either LotR or the hobbit (can't remmember). it calls gollum "one of the river folk" if thats a clue as to what he was.

It has to be in LoTR, probly fellowship, because Gollum's past isnt explained in The Hobbit. Remember, when the hobbit was written, the rings only power was invisbility, and Gollum was just a mysterious creature. The ring's true power and history, including Gollum were not revealed until later.

Smeagol; one of the 'River Folk' - or the Stoors. The Stoor clan is one of the three original Hobbit 'clans'; Stoors, Fallowhides and Harfoots. The Stoors are the ancestors of, for example, the Brandybuck family (note the Brandybucks have an uncommon affinity with boats). It is recorded that some Stoors - living nearby Rivendell - fled south and west when the elven fortress was attacked during the wars of Angmar vs. Arnor (the Witch-King stirring up trouble again), and that some of these hobbit-like folk settled over the mountains, upon the Gladden Fields, north of Lorien (the site of Isildur's death). Smeagol must have been one of these.

The picture is, indeed, Smeagol and his friend Deagol, boating. That I know. I thought this was edited footage from Two Towers; now, I'm not so sure.
