I sure hope it will be up for all time, but to be realistic, I think it'll be pretty much down after a couple of years. We've all seen it happen to other forums, and fate probably will catch up on this board some time too. :(

Just the more reason to spam and have fun right now. :D

Most die even quicker... so do the math yourself...

I doubt it's even possible to make predictions about the lifespan of a board, especially as the entire phenomenon of message boards is only what? 4, 5 years? old... Technically it's most likely older, but in those days there was only a fraction of the people around on the Internet who are online nowadays. It's a new phenomenon, and its longterm success is still hard to predict.
hmm IMnsHO there have been mg boards much longer ...
But U are right that there isn't much data on the lifespan yet, so I combined what there is with common sense...

People that make boards are usually at a certain point in their life that they have a profound interest in a subject ... later on when they lose that interst (due to changes in age/RL/social stuff etc etc) they will tend to keep the board up a few more years just for the kick (power, social obligation to members etc) untill that stops aswell...

So I would say 10 years sounds about ok ...
Am I stil making any sense here? (I am coming down with a cold u know )

PS: Eindhoven huh? Ik kom uit Zeeland!@

I know, I also noted that *technically* boards have been around for quite some time, but the big rush on the Internet happened during the past 5 years, and boards that would have died years ago suddenly got an influx of new members, prolonging its lifespan. And as long as the number of people online is still on the rise every single day, I think it's still hard to predict how long a community will really exist. And it's possible that by the time the webmaster is completely fed up with his board, someone else takes the webmaster activities over completely.

Yup, I'm at the University here, wasting my time on a study I couldn't care less about. But Eindhoven is a nice town to live, nonetheless. ;)

IW the board will last as long as Ziroc cares to keep it running. Possibly longer, if someone else with a friendly ISP wants to take on the job.

IW the community can and will outlast the board though.

yeah Einhoven is nice ...

I like the shopping centres there (well my wife loves them )
As for the lifespan of a board ... it take time/money and devotion to run a board as admin.

And even if u find somebody to take it over as a whole things will change enthus the old board dies ... But lets not be picky at words ... lets allprove me wrong by still being active on the net the coming 11 years
