I think that rigged that machine, to show their respect in some weird way and make it a publicity stunt all in one shot. Either that, or it is just a sign that even though it is a very sad day, there can still be happiness on the 11th.

A lot. I read an article prior to 9/11 about how many gamblers decided to go for 911 in their number on September the 11th. Assuming this is the kind of lottery where you play with your own number...

The chances of a particular combination showing up are 1 in 1000 yes, but the chances of a particulat combination showing up on a particular day must take into account the number of days in the year;
Thus, the chances of 9-1-1 showing up on the 11th of September are infact 1 in 365,000
What are the chances of 911 coming up today? 1000-1 The odds are the same every day.

The number of days in the year is irrelevant, why not the number of days in the month?

Hey Z! I was going to post that very thing! Lottery Number comes up same as the date on such a significant day. Weird, huh?! I heard it on the news as I was dressing yesterday. The radio show hosts were talking about how it was so ironic that it came up like that on 9-11-02 and they wondered what the person doing the drawing felt like when it came up with the final number. Me, I'd have been shocked! LOL

The chances of it coming up on whatever day you put it in are 1000-1, yes; but if you want the exact date to come up, there are alot more considerations.

That combination has a 1000-1 chance of coming up on any day of the year; but for the chances of it coming up on that exact day (ie. you put a different combination in each day, or you buy it for one day only); you have to consider that you don`t want it to come up on just any day of the year, but this specific one.

Iron Ranger, it's not rigged. The NY State Lottery commission will verify it for you, if you like. The way those numbers come up, it's virtually impossible to 'rig' it. They are blown around in a tumbler and when the slot opens air shoots a ball up. Pretty hard to pick which one it will be in advance.

Oh, come on. It was NOT rigged. The show is live, and they are all random. It was just luck.

The same thing happened in Australia about 15 years ago (In that I mean it was rigged, not 9, 1, 1 numbers) That's why the lottery in Australia use different machines now.
